Chapter 2: Another World
The night sky. Filled with stars of all colors. It also has two moons. It truly is a majestic sight. I thought as I admired it. And to make it even more fascinating, I saw multiple shooting stars come from one specific spot in the sky together with some kind of shockwave that bended the light from the other stars. Truly a sight to behold.
I was tired. Very very tired. But I couldn't close my eyes for a horrific dream haunted my mind. In the dream I saw Airi, sitting on her wheelchair looking at me with distasteful eyes asking why. Why couldn't I have save her. Then her figure changes to how it looked when she died but her eyes are still open. Why? tell me, WHY! Then everything darkens. Its been the same thing for multiple times during the night. The guilt is consuming me. But that's not the only thing.
Day break. I didn't get a enough sleep. My leg hurts. The pain keeps throbbing more and more as time passes. I can't walk. I've been sitting at the same place for so many hours but I wasn.t hungry. Nor was I thirsty. I hadn't eaten anything the previous day but I wasn't craving anything. I decided to look for berries or other fruits to eat when I do get hungry. I started making plans in my head on how I should survive when I felt a sharp pain on my left arm.
I turned to look, a snake. A freaking snake. And a decently big one too. I could practically feel the venom being pumped into blood. Then, almost in pure instinct, grabbed a stick that was next to me and stabbed it in the eye then it took off but left me a present. I could literally see the veins on my left arm bulging as the venom travelled towards my shoulder. Luckily, when there's nothing to do as a convenience store cashier, you end up watching a lot of TV. So I watched a lot of survival shows and new that I needed to stop the venom. At this point, I no longer felt pain from the bite. I tied my arm so tied it turned purple. Where am I getting all this energy from? I haven't eaten in 24 hours. So how? Also, I've got a lot of bad luck.
After I sat on that spot for a for a while longer, I felt an uneasy feeling like I was surrounded by danger and decided to try to move from there. The pain on my leg was unbearable but I needed to move. I grabbed a stick with a pointy edge for self defense even though I doubted it capabilities and began walking. It didn't take long for bad luck to strike again.
From the bushes came a four-legged monster that moved like a big cat but it definitely wasn't. It wasted no time to pounce on me and go for my neck where I put my left arm to protect. At that point it was on top of me and had the upper hand. I stabbed it in the eye multiple times hoping it would let go but instead it bit harder, and in then it happened. My arm. My arm was bitten off. I screamed as the blood from the arm went into my mouth and the monster wasted no time going for my face taking a bite from my one good eye. I couldn't see.
Probably because of not being able to see, my animal instinct woke up. The monster was close to my face. So I bit its neck at full force. Accidentally, the stick I was swinging around hit the monster on one of its front limbs and it fell over with me on its top. I bit its neck some more. Its front claws scratched my upper body multiple times while its rear claws the back of my thighs. I used the pain to bite even harder then came off with a chunk of its neck and after while it stopped moving.
It hurts. It hurts everywhere. Then I removed my eye patch from my right eye hoping for something but there was nothing. I can't see. I can't see! Wait. Blood from my left arm went into my mouth. Then, without my knowledge at the time, my right eye glowed a golden yellow and I vomited all the content inside of me but I moved in the process and the pain was too much. So I fell unconscious on top of the monster.
I arrived back home with some groceries and there, Airi welcomed me. Then I prepared dinner and we sat down together to eat in the usual environment of awkward silence. After a while, she broke that silence.
"Takumi, if you had the opportunity to get a two abilities, what would you pick?"
"Why the sudden question?"
"Curiosity."
"Are there any limits?"
"That depends."
"Then...uh... I'd pick the ability to create anything."
"Oh. Ok. What else would you pick?"
"The ability to use anything at its full potential. With those two I'd make anything possible." Then she laughed and there was some more silence after that.
"Takumi, Are you being bullied at school?" I didn't answer. Instead I continued eating.
"I can tell because sometimes you come back with words written on your clothes. Bad words." I still had no response.
"Is that why you couldn't save me? Because you came across some of the bullies from your school." I stopped eating and looked at her in shock.
"I think Its time you do something about them. Maybe talk to them and convince them to stop. Or you could do better. Get revenge." Then I stood up and walked backwards and the frame changed to the time I found her dead on her wheelchair with blood everywhere. I got scared and started trembling then the corpse moved and looked towards me and smiled slyly.
"You finally did something about them. It felt good didn't it. Now you should always do the same thing. Anyone that goes against you, uses you or makes you suffer. Do the same to them but worse. Make them regret. Let them plead for mercy and in the end, don't give it to them. For nothing is sweeter than revenge." Then everything went dark.
Ow. I fell from something. Its dark. I can't see a thing. Is it nighttime. I can't feel my arm. Oh wait. Then I remembered everything that happened. Huh. What's this. I felt the ground. Snow? How long was I out. Wait a minute. Why am I alive? How am I alive? And did I fall from a tree? How did I get up there? This is too much, even for plot armor. Something definitely happened. Let me think. Before I passed out I, Puked? But how? Was it my instinct? I have so many questions. But that's not important, for now at least. My priority should be survival. Wait. How am I so full of energy? Is it because I'm in another world? Oh right. This should be a world of swords and magic. I haven't seen any of those but I've definitely seen abnormal things. I wonder if I could use magic?
Then somehow I remembered the conversation I had with Airi while I was unconscious. She asked me what power I would choose. I wonder if I actually got them. Everything in this world so far has happened because it can. I wonder if this is still the case. Pfft. If it is then I'm gonna rule an entire continent. This was a joke by the way. At the time at least.
Let's see here. If I do happen to have those abilities, which might sound all powerful, I still need to be careful. I'm pretty sure it will need a source of power. If mangas and animes are to be believed, that power should be mana and if I guess correctly, every being should have mana. So I probably have some too. Maybe not too much. If that's true then I should create an ability to increase my mana. Something like absorb mana.
YOU HAVE OBTAINED THE SKILL 'ABSORB MANA'.
What? What's this? Something appeared in the darkness. The darkness that's supposed to mean I can't see. Is this a screen? Skills in your disposal: Creation, full potential, absorb mana? To use say out loud the name of the skill. Should I try it. Obviously.
"Absorb mana"
Then all the plants and trees around dried up making it look like a barren land. Incredible! I can actually feel it. This is awesome. Its actual magic. I have a source now. Which means I can get more abilities or skills or whatever. But first, I need a way to see and walk properly. From the knowledge I have, if I can feel mana around me I can make out my surroundings. So I made a skill that can help me with this called 'Mana Field' and, even though I still couldn't see, it calmed me down by knowing my surroundings. I also made a healing skill to see if it can heal my wounds but nothing happened for some reason. Even with the full potential skill. So I just made a skill to help me walk. Apparently it didn't exist so I could name it and the first thing to pop into my mind, 'Exoskeleton'.
For days, I went exploring. Increasing the amount of mana in me and killing monsters. I also got more and more skills. Things were looking great. Then I realized something. I hadn't come across a single human or any sign of human activity for like sixty days. This world is either really big or the population is really small. Now that I think about it. I don't know anything about this world.
So I made a skill to help me with that. The skill was called 'Omniscient' but due to the effect of full potential, which I made to be always active, it became 'Clara'. Its practically an assistant that I wasted no time in using.
Clara. If I ask you any question will you answer?
"I will answer all the questions that you ask me".
Alright. Are there humans in this world and what are they like?
"Yes, there are humans. They live in villages, towns and cities. They are normal compared to the humans from your world, in terms of emotions and most cultures. They mostly worship the goddess but some worship the other three deities or other beings. Due to worshipping the goddess, humans have adapted some of the morals taught by her".
What kind of morals?
"Humans enslave or kill any being that is not a human".
What?
"Beings such as elves and other demi humans, monsters and demons. The goddess taught humans that all other beings were inferior to humans and they can do as they wish with them. This led to an enmity between humans and other beings that has led to constant conflicts for thousands of years. The privilege given to humans made them do all sorts of things."
Hearing this only made me hate the goddess and humans even more. Why did she do all of that?
"I cannot that question. No comparable answer found." I thought you said you could answer anything. Whatever.
From then on I continued learning more things about this world. Like how every living thing must worship another every two weeks or they die. When I asked why it was liked this, Clara said that it was law put in place by heaven. No being can break any law that heaven makes for heaven is universal and has infinite power.
One time, while walking around, I thought to make a petrification skill to see what would happen since it activates by opening the eyes. I have one eye and its blind so I was really curious.
When I obtained the skill, it upgraded due to the effect of full potential and I obtained a skill called 'Cursed Petrification' and when I opened my eye, it hurt. A lot. Like I was it being stabbed.
So I tried to make a pain nullification skill but it didn't help. I invested more mana into it but still didn't help. I absorbed all the mana I needed and without knowing, everything around me died. Eventually I stabilized the pain and tried once more.
I opened my eye and like ice crystals, rocks appeared with incredible force and destroyed everything. That's not what shocked me though. The thing is, I could see. For some reason, I could see. But I caused destruction everywhere I looked so I closed my eye and, I could still see.
Makes sense when you think about it because most mythical creatures that could petrify with a gaze could still see even with their eyes closed. I was excited and looked for a river to see a reflection of my body and when I found one, I saw my body. Filled with scars, missing an arm and an eye, wearing tattered clothes and when I opened my eye, the skill didn't take effect.
When I asked Clara she said that I have a cursed skill which is not only a lot more powerful than its regular version, but also has other effects classified into self or environmental effects which in this case, a self effect.
When I open my eye, which by the way is glowing a beautiful pink, all of my stats are increased by 300%. That's three times the power. Incredible. I decided to use it as my trump card in fights. So I covered it with an eye patch.
I followed the river for a while thinking that there must be a town next to it and I was right. At long last. Civilization. A city surrounded by walls and a huge gate at the front. An incredible site to behold.
I went for the gate wanting to enter, however, because of my appearance, a lot of people looked at me with fearful eyes, making sure to keep their distance but it didn't affect me. As I was about to go in, the guards said that I need registration to enter which I obviously did not have. So I copied one that another person was holding. A guild registration.
It didn't have information like a name or a picture. It just said where he worked. But it was infused with his mana through a process which I didn't know. So I just made mine the exact same way his was but with my mana instead, which Clara helped out with. One thing led to another and just like that, I was in. Surprisingly easy I thought. Until I walked half way through the gate and realized there was a magic ring around it.
Everything stopped moving. I made a temporary skill, which have more effect than permanent skills, 'Thought Acceleration' that upgraded to ' Maximum Thought Acceleration'. A cursed skill.
Then I very quickly made a skill to nullify the effect of the magic ring around the gate. The reason for this being that the ring sees any person who walks in, their intentions and if they are or will be evil. Something tells me that I may have such intentions because of how I feel towards the goddess and humans but I didn't want to get caught up yet. I didn't have enough knowledge.
Afterwards I cancelled my skill and walked straight through the gate. I admired the city which was lively, filled with stalls and people and old timey buildings. Finally. Civilization. What awaits me now?
Unbeknownst to me, in one of the buildings, there was a man sipping wine as he received a guest.
" My lord. There seems to be an issue." The guest said while trembling in fear.
"I know. Maximum Thought Acceleration. It was just activated." The man answered.
Then a transmission came in through a magic sphere on his desk.
"Lord Venheim. His majesty has called for an emergency meeting. I'm sure you now why." Said the voice from the sphere.
"Inform him that I'm on my way." The man replied.
Meanwhile in heaven, the four deities were together discussing some issues when the goddess raised a question.
"You all felt that?" The rest nodded in agreement.
"Maximum Thought Acceleration. A cursed skill. It was just activated. But it wasn't by a heavenly being."
"What's the big deal about? Michael will take care of it." Said another deity.
"Michael is busy. You all now that." Replied the goddess.
"What's the effect of this skill anyway?" Another deity asked.
Then the goddess replied, "Its effect. Stops the world's time."
