Reincarnated into a Doomed Novel as an Unknown Extra

Chapter 89: Favouritism

"I'll kill him! Stop holding me back!"

"Just calm down! If you do anything to him you will get punished!"

In the preparation room, I was holding Zephyr back alone using my enhancement, stopping him from attacking Arthur who just finished his last fight.

For some reason, no one was trying to help me! Those cowards!

"Just wait until the exams start. That will be a better win! And in front of more people… Imagine it!" As I finished talking, Zephyr seemed to finally calm down.

"I'll cook that filthy bird someday. Mark my words!" Zephyr spat before opening his bracelet.

Arthur, who stood on the other side, seemed embarrassed. He tried to open his mouth multiple times but no words came out.

"Here is it!" Zephyr pressed on his bracelet for a last time before closing it. "Ray, I paid for a day in a training facility. Don't disturb me!"

Without waiting for my response, he went inside the wall and left the room. Ignoring that he didn't finish his fights.

"...."

I let out a sigh and returned to my seat, continuing watching the screen as more students started their fights.

Arthur did really great after defeating Zephyr. He quickly finished 2 monsters and a girl with wind affinity without troubles.

Now that I had finally seen his fights, I could finally start trying to find some hidden gems.

Some time later, Limitless started his fights… and won easily too.

The 2 monsters didn't even have any chance against him. He could use different affinities to find their weaknesses and with his strange chain and his casting speed, his fights barely took a few minutes.

The student he fought was a girl with lava affinity. She fought well, but still lost against all his sudden attacks.

If I noticed something in those fights, it would be how he always focused on his enemy more than himself.

That was how I was able to cut his hand earlier despite how he saw the wind cleave somehow. He was more like a glass cannon currently without a high reaction speed.

Another hidden gem I found was a black-haired girl that wore a blindfold for some reason and was called Nyxis.

She had a two-handed sword that was a mix of white and black as her soul-bound artifact and 2 affinities.

From observing her fights, both of her affinities seemed to be mutant. The first was dark fire and the second was literally dark light!

Her flames had the ability to decay and burn at the same time, while her light could decay her opponents while healing her at the same time.

She didn't talk at all, and despite the blindfold she was wearing, she dodged and parried all attacks with unease as if she could see them in slow motion.

Other than her and Limitless, no one else caught my attention, until Liora's name appeared on the screen.

"I'll take my leave." She bowed slightly before going to the arena.

At first, she fought an elf with a great hammer and earth affinity. She won easily without even a scratch.

Why? Because that elf kept attacking the air!

"Does she have a space affinity too?"

"Everything was phasing through her… then suddenly, she appeared in Lonard's back!"

"And what about that white mask… it's similar to the sadist's mask. Are they secretly siblings?"

"We have 2 devils now!"

Everyone around us kept giving different theories about Liora — and some included me for no reason — but I ignored them, because unlike most of them, what I saw was different.

Liora had 2 affinities, with the first being frost, and the second was illusion.

Fortunately, I could see through her illusion. While people were saying she had teleported suddenly, what I saw was her moving silently to the elf that was busy attacking the thin air.

Once she was close enough, she created a sharp ice blade and caught him off guard, causing him to lose miserably.

Additionally, there was something new about her that didn't exist in the novel — and it was her mask.

Just like me, she had a soul-bound mask. It was white mask with blue marks, cracks, and glowing blue eye holes. Unlike my blank mask, it had a nose, and a mouth that curled into a smile.

Unfortunately, without fighting her, I couldn't confirm its effects and abilities.

Her next 3 fights were almost the same. I couldn't know what she did with her illusions, but she showed more of her frost magic in the other 3 fights.

From what I gathered, she seemed to be leaning toward being a pure mage, but she had a talent with daggers too.

Finally, she returned to the preparation room and sat beside me without saying anything.

Feeling the necessity to melt the ice between us, I tried to complement her with a smile. "Your fights were great. I liked your fighting style."

"Mhm." She answered blankly without a change in her expression, but I noticed how her eyes gleamed for a brief moment.

'Again? What does that mean?'

I tried to make connections between all the times this happened, but I couldn't think for too long as Selene's name appeared on the screen.

"It's my turn. I'll go now… and cheer for me!" Selene waved to me with a soft smile on her face, then left the room and went to the arena.

She was actually the one I was most excited to see. I didn't know anything about how her affinity works or the power of her race.

Selene stood in the arena as her first opponent was determined to be a monster.

Suddenly, a beautiful great sword materialized in her hand. Its huge blade had a small smooth curve and the beautiful sword itself seemed to be made of silver moon crystals.

"Pfft."

"Why is it so big?"

"It isn't that big. She is just… small."

I also held my laugh when she raised the sword with one hand. Selene was short, around 1.5m. when she held a sword that was bigger than her, it gave her a cute, funny look.

Of course, I took a photo immediately.

'I'm definitely not missing this! Hahaha!'

Suddenly, a ball of flames appeared before her as her opponent… began to materialize? Not appearing suddenly out of nowhere?

We all looked at that scene with confusion, including Selene herself.

'Damn! Her father is doing that on purpose!'

Eventually, the monster materialized completely. It was… a small flaming chicken….

Since when was there a tier 3 monster like that? How did it survive in the wilderness?!

No, I couldn't underestimate the monsters in this world. The appearance meant nothing!

The chicken charged at Selene with a high speed. Facing the furious chicken, Selene raised her sword with a disappointed face and slammed the chicken with the flat side.

*BAM!*

"...."

Everyone stared at that scene silently.

Just like this… the chicken died…

It was clear favouritism. We all knew this one way or another… but there was nothing we could do.
