Chapter 88: Genius Monster Vs Plot Armor
On one side, stood a tall elf with long white hair. He had a pair of bloody-red eyes and held a great red scythe on his shoulder.
He wore simple red and black clothes and his hands were clad in a light metallic gauntlet.
A wide smirk played on his lips as he glared at the one on the other side of the arena.
A human with golden hair that reached his shoulder and a pair of bright golden eyes. He was clad in light silver armor and held a two-handed longsword.
Unlike in the day, he wasn't glowing brightly, yet the darkness of the night couldn't hide the brightness of his golden wings.
'I never expected that I'd watch this fight in such quality.'
*Crunch! Crunch!*
Sitting in the preparation room, I was eating something that seemed to be blue popcorn with Selene and Liora who were sitting beside me.
"Who do you think will win…?" Liora asked with a cold voice as she ate a bunch of popcorn.
"Hmm? I think Arthur is going to win."
*Crunch!*
"Huh?" Selene raised an eyebrow. "I thought you would cheer for Zephyr…"
"Cheer for him? I hope he loses in the worst possible way!" I couldn't help but remember our fights in the past years.
Once. I had won only once against him!
In fact! That wasn't a fair win!! At that time I used an artificial arrow instead of normal arrows or elemental ones. Yes, I cheated, but I was satisfied when I caught him by surprise.
*BAM!*
"It's starting." Liora said before focusing on the screen.
I did the same and started observing the fight. That was my chance to see all the changes in the combat students after all those butterfly effects.
That guy Limitless was one of the bright changes. I hoped that more people like him existed on our side.
Focusing on the screen, I watched as Arthur attacked Zephyr with a barrage or magical attacks.
Solar rays and solar spears flew at Zephyr with rapid speed. Zephyr didn't dodge, he swung and spun his scythe, cutting all the attacks without resistance.
The more he cut, the brighter his red scythe gleamed. It seemed to become sharper and faster with each cut.
Arthur finally noticed that his magic was useless. His body, wings, armor and sword began to glow brightly as solar flames danced around them, lightening the entire arena.
With a strong swing of his wings, he rose to the sky before flying to Zephyr like a meteor.
Zephyr launched a barrage of attacks at him, but Arthur dodged them in the middle of the air with an insane agility and control.
*BOOM!*
A sword covered in solar flames slammed into a reddish-black scythe. The ground under Zephyr shattered from the impact, but Zephyr himself didn't even flinch.
In fact, judging by how his muscles tensed suddenly, he probably got stronger.
Zephyr applied more force and threw Arthur away, then Arthur returned again with another sword slam.
*BAM! BAM! BAM!*
They kept clashing without resting, one from the sky and the other on the ground. From time to time, one of them would try to hit the other with a sudden attack, but fail miserably.
Their fight seemed to be equal, but I knew someone of them was losing already.
With each clash, small cracks would spread over both the scythe and the sword, but unlike the sword, Zephyr's scythe was repairing itself.
Arthur couldn't afford to stay like this for a long time.
As the time passed, Arthur's wings seemed to become faster, until one of his attacks scratched Zephyr's arm.
A wide smile spread across his features, but it vanished quickly as strange energy moved from the scythe and covered Zephyr's arm before healing it.
That was the third ability that bastard got. He could now use the stored energy in the scythe to heal himself!
Arthur flew away immediately. Then he hovered in a circle around Zephyr before slashing the air with his sword.
*Bam! Bam! Bam!*
Sharp solar slashes flew toward Zephyr, but unlike the magical attacks, his scythe couldn't cut them easily.
"AURA SLASH!" Someone in the room shouted with his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. And many others had similar reactions.
At the age of 18, Arthur was using aura slash before even starting the academy. Their reactions were understandable.
*BAM!*
Suddenly, one of the slashes hit Zephyr's back as he was slow by a second to block it. It burned his back and showed a wide cut. Zephyr didn't even groan, his expression turned firm and his eyes glared at Arthur sharply.
He cut through another solar slash before spinning his scythe and using probably all the energy inside of it to swing in a wide arc and send an eclipse slash.
It flew toward Arthur with insane speed and accuracy. Arthur didn't have the ability to change his flying direction in time, so he held his sword firmly in the direction of the flying slash.
*BOOM!*
Arthur was sent flying until he hit the arena's barrier and fell to the ground. His sword shattered into pieces and one of his wings was decayed by the eclipse power.
Zephyr didn't wait for him to recover as he charged at him in an instant and swung his scythe.
With only the hilt remaining, Arthur blocked the scythe with the broken sword. But he was losing gradually.
Zephyr's pressure increased on him with each passing second. Arthur's body was losing against Zephyr's overwhelming power and his hilt was decaying quickly.
Gritting his teeth, he looked at Zephyr in disbelief as his muscles protested. Everyone thought that was the end, but suddenly—!
"I'm… not… losing!!" he shouted with a shaking voice, his disbelief turning into a firm expression.
'Oh! Oh! It's happening! It's really happening!'
Was he using the power of friendship? Remember his family? His goals? Maybe someone's words?
Damn! I wanted to know, but I was just an observer!
The solar flames around Arthur began to become hotter and brighter. The ground under him was melting and he was finally pushing Zephyr's scythe.
He had reversed the situation by the power of his plot armor!
"What… the fuck?!" Zephyr's eyes opened wide as his scythe began to melt and shatter faster than it could repair itself.
Using my bracelet, I seized the opportunity and took some photos of his face. I was planning to put them as wallpapers.
*CRACK!*
The red scythe finally shattered, and Arthur's broken blade hit Zephyr's stomach, causing the solar flames to spread over his body.
Arthur fell on his knees gasping for breath. A moment later, the solar flames disappeared revealing the burnt body of Zephyr.
'More wallpapers, hehe.'
Zephyr finally fell on the ground with a loud *thud* before getting teleported to the preparation room.
Standing alone in the arena and with a wide smile, Arthur raised his broken half-molten sword to the sky.
In the fight between a genius monster and plot armor, the plot armor had won.
