Chapter 82: Ivan
We had tried many restaurants, eating only small meals to settle on our favourite ones later.
I wanted to talk with the main characters to deepen our friendship and all that crap, and well, I stayed silent most of the time.
I had just discovered that I wasn't good at talking with strangers. I didn't know if what I was going to say would suit their humour or not, so I didn't talk so much.
The one that did most talking was Zephyr, but I didn't like what that motherfucker was saying!
"When Ray noticed that his punch didn't affect me, his expression turned into fear and despair!"
"I didn't! Stop spreading misinformation about me!" Inside a bar, I yelled at Zephyr who had just ignored me, and with a bottle of beer in his hand, he continued:
"Then I grabbed him from his neck, raised him in the air and BAM!" He hit the table with the empty bottle. "Slammed him into the ground! I did it again and again, ignoring how he was begging me to stop with tears falling out of his eyes. HAHAHA!"
"..."
I decided to not argue anymore and focused on my drink.
It was a strange type of bitter coffee that was purple. I never liked alcohol in my past life and always preferred coffee.
Taking another sip of coffee, I decided to take its recipe later. It was just too perfect!
"He is clearly lying. I believe you." Liora suddenly said as she patted my back.
"Oh… thank you." I answered before falling in silence again.
'Looks like I'm not the only one that isn't talking much.'
Liora and I were the only 2 who rarely talked and only listened most of the time. Hell, even Selene, who said she rarely left her house, was talking happily with Cel and Elara!
"So…" Liora was the first to break the silence. "Do you have any habits?"
"Well, I cook sometimes if you can consider this a habit."
"Oh, I love eating sweets. I think this can be a habit too."
The silence between us returned instantly.
'Fuck that! Why can't I say something?! Wait, she loves sweets, huh?'
After thinking for a moment, I decided to use the same strategy I used on Zephyr.
Cookies!
I improved on making them so much when I tried to use magical ingredients instead of the normal ones.
And the result?
"Hey guys, come and try these." I called everyone as I took a small freezing container from my internal space.
Opening the container, I revealed a bunch of colorful cookies and strawberry lemon bars.
"Wait, didn't you say that you didn't bring any sweets with you?!" Zephyr looked at me with disbelief as he stole a green cookie immediately.
"He lied." Cel answered before taking one as well.
Selene also took one and ate her with a satisfied smile. "Mmm! I remember these things! I used to steal them when I lived in your house."
'Wait… that wasn't Zephyr?'
Elara, Arthur and Liora only stared at the container with hesitation and curiosity.
"What's wrong? They won't bite." I took a lemon bar and ate it in front of them, showing that it was safe.
Liora was the first to take one. She held a blue cookie and took a small bite.
"D-Delicious!"
Her eyes lit up for a brief, almost unnoticeable moment, then she began to eat it faster.
Seeing her actions, Elara and Arthur followed her.
"Whoa! Is it okay to let us eat them?" Arthur hesitated for a moment before eating the entire lemon bar. "They look really expensive."
"It's okay. I made them myself. I plan to start a business later." I said as I imagined all the EC I'd get.
This was one of the only few places in Eldoria where I could buy magical items legally. I was planning to buy the best I could before graduating.
Well, that was if I lived until then.
*Ding!*
Suddenly, my bracelet rang, giving me a message about the combat test starting in 30 minutes.
"Are you attending the combat test too?" Liora asked as she closed her own bracelet.
I nodded to her, then suddenly, I was approached by Selene.
"Ray! Can you send us to the main building?" she asked with a hint of expectation.
"Hmm… let me try."
Closing my eyes, I began to send my space aether to the main building. It moved smoothly until it got stopped by a strange force.
'It must be the entrance door. Looks like they have a defensive mechanism against space users.'
I started manipulating my aether beside me and at the main building together, until finally, a black gate formed beside me, leading to the academy's main building.
"Is that a spatial mage?!"
"Lierien, remember his face!"
"As if the shining angel wasn't enough. What's wrong with this year's students?"
The people in the bar started murmuring and gazing at me, but I ignored them.
"You can make a gate already!" Arthur shouted with visible awe.
I just shrugged and didn't answer. Making a gate was one of the hardest things a spatial mage could do. I had learnt how to do that only because of the skill I got from the black market.
It didn't only need incredible control, but also strong memory.
I stored my empty container and entered the gate immediately, then I found myself in front of the main building. Once everyone but Zephyr emerged out of the gate, I dismissed it.
"...."
They all stared at me speechless. Except Arthur and Selene who let out a sigh of relief.
"What? I'm helping him to stop his laziness." A soft chuckle left my mouth as I opened the map.
"We will separate here. The combat profession isn't my primary, but I'll be watching." Elara said with a wide smile as she entered the main building. "Oh, and thank you for the food, Raylin."
"Wait, I'm coming with you." Cel followed her immediately, leaving only me, Liora, Selene and Arthur.
Suddenly, Arthur stopped glowing as the night officially began. Just then, Selene started glowing softly like a moon.
Arthur didn't fail to notice that. "Does your trait strengthen you in the night?"
She hesitated for a moment before nodding to him.
He opened his mouth to say something, but after a moment he just closed it again.
'Now that I think about it. Don't they both have wings now? She is also a sword user too. Maybe they are really related somehow.'
After talking for a moment, we entered the main building following a map until we stood before a wall.
"Strange… it stops here." Liora scratched her head as she looked at the wall.
Suddenly, someone patted my shoulder.
"You must be a first year student. If you are trying to attend the combat test, then the wall should teleport you there. It's a small joke from the principal."
I turned my head and my eyes widened as I found a familiar face.
An elf with long bluish-black hair. He had a pair of eyes with different colors, one blue and the other red, and wore a silver suit with a pair of silver gloves.
"You are the penguin guy!" I shouted as I remembered him. He was the boy who stood in the line with me in the awakening center.
He narrowed his eyes for a moment and the realization hit him. "You are the one who looked at me with pity! You think I didn't notice it?"
"Well...you should have seen yourself."
"Yeah, I didn't have hope back then." His lips curled into a wide grin. "But look at me now. I'm the apex of the combat ranking in my year! I'm even stronger than some people in the third year."
Our eyes widened as we heard him.
His smile turned into a proud grin. "I just found the real potential of my trait. Even those lucky bastards, who got rewarded by the gambling event, are nothing against me."
His bracelet suddenly rang, then he waved to us and turned to leave. "I have to leave now. I'm Ivan by the way."
"I'm Raylin. See you later." I waved at him as he turned into water and left quickly.
Arthur looked at me with curiosity. "Penguin transformation?"
"Oh, I just saw him by coincidence in the awakening center. He looked too depressed back then."
I shifted my gaze to the wall. "Anyway, who will try first?"
My words lingered in the air as no one responded.
"Haa… fine, I'll go." I accepted my fate and looked at the wall.
It reminded me a little of an old great series I had watched in my past life, so inwardly, I was a little excited.
I touched the wall slowly, then my eyes widened as my hand passed through it.
"It works!"
I entered immediately as my vision changed.
"I wonder what I will fight."
"My cousin told me that she ended up against a volcanic golem back then. I really pity her."
"Aren't volcanic golems too big and slow? How did she lose against that?"
"Because her affinity is plants and she is just a mage. It's basically her natural enemy."
I found myself standing in a white room with people chatting and preparing themselves around me. Arthur, Selene, and Liora appeared beside me shortly after.
Suddenly, a bald tiger man approached us.
"Welcome to the preparation room. Artifacts aren't allowed in the combat test. If you are wearing anything with passive effects, please hand them over to me or put them in storage."
"Oh, okay."
I put my bracelet in my spatial ring. Then he pointed in a direction.
"If you use weapons or armor, you can take them from there. That's all, the bracelet will show you everything else."
Arthur looked at the hanging weapons then said. "Let's go. We have only a few minutes left."
"..."
But none of us moved.
He scratched his head with a shaking smile.
"What a coincidence for all of you to be pure mages!"
We shook our heads in unison, though Liora hesitated for a moment before it.
"You can't all have soul-bound artifacts except me, right?
"...."
"...Right?
