'Heh… it's so easy. I don't know why anyone would struggle on this.'
My pen moved smoothly as I answered them one by one.
Where does mana come from? Apparently, Eldoria had a strange core that could generate mana. It was also what the demons targeted to make the world generate anti-mana instead.
Just then, I paused as a theory formed in my mind.
'Wait… if all cores have wills inside of them… then does the world's core have a will too?'
The idea was both exciting and horrifying. If there was a will inside the world's core, then who did that will belong to? The world itself? Or something else…
I shook my head and focused on the test. If I thought about this theory just now then everyone else did already. That wasn't my problem.
The difference between the 4 main races? It was simple.
Humans, elves and dwarves were too similar with small differences if we ignored the look.
According to the statistics, humans had a higher chance to get high talent in weapons.
Elves had a higher chance for a high talent in mana control.
Dwarves had a higher chance for a high talent in supporting professions.
And the most complicated of them all was the orcs. They didn't have mana cores at all, instead, they were born with 1 aura core and could form another one later.
That meant if I could double my power using my aura, they could triple it! And that's without counting how their bodies would be even stronger without aura due to the double breakthrough feedback.
They were the only main race that didn't attend the academy despite participating in making it. They preferred their own way of teaching.
After finishing a few more simple questions, I reached the final one.
[What is your goal after graduating? (optional)]
'Optional, huh?'
I finished the test and had some extra minutes anyway, so I decided to write one of my goals just for fun.
[Finding the Dark Order's main base and destroying it!]
It looked a little childish, but I didn't lie. I was really planning to do this somehow.
Laying the pen on the desk, I looked at the paper of someone in front of me and noticed that it looked so cloudy that I couldn't read anything.
'So that's how they make sure no one would cheat. Even my enchanted eyes can't see through that.'
After a few minutes, the papers and pens disappeared.
"Hey! I'm not done yet!"
"I haven't finished the last 2 questions!"
"Please give me one more minute."
The students started shouting at the teachers while complaining about the hard test… including Zephyr and Elara.
Seeing the students complaining, I wondered if the exam was really easy or if I was just smart.
'Maybe it's because I'm a reincarnator. Most of these questions are just fantasy for me but, but for them, it was no different from science.'
*Ding!*
My bracelet glowed for a moment, then the woman at the teachers' desk announced with a smile:
"Now that you have finished the general test, you have received a calendar of the ranking tests. If you aren't participating you can always go to watch, it's your choice. You are free to go now."
With that, she left with the other teachers, leaving us alone in the hall.
I had only 2 professions as primary so I had only 2 tests to do.
The first one was the combat test. It would be held after 2 hours in what seemed to be the academy's arena.
According to the rules, I would have to fight 2 random students and 2 random monsters in front of everyone. The Tier of the student and the monster would depend on my own tier. Not all people were Tier 3 like me after all.
The ranking wouldn't be about winning, but will be determined by my performance, ensuring that no one would end up as the lowest rank because they fought the strongest student in the start.
The second was the artificery test. It would be held after a day in what seemed to be a big lab.
We would have to make specific artifacts using the available materials. The quality of the artifact, the making speed, and the artifact itself would determine my ranking.
"Hey Ray! Let's explore the restaurants here. I'll pay for everyone's food!" Zephyr suddenly said with a wide grin.
I looked at him with confusion and suspicion. "Why are you too generous today? You can't pay with contribution points. Only EC."
"Because I'll get a lot of EC later." His grin widened. "Just wait until I become rank-1 in the combat ranking!"
"Haa… fine, I'll come."
I stood up to leave him without arguing. In the original novel, Arthur was who had held the rank 1 and got the title of the combat Apex, but I couldn't be sure now.
Additionally, I needed to talk with Selene a little, so talking while eating would be nice, and I would gladly and shamelessly use Zephyr's money!
As I walked out of the desk and went to the stairs, Liora suddenly clenched my sleeve.
"Hmm?" I looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
She hesitated for a moment, then gathered her courage and said. "Can I go with you too? I… have nothing else to do…" she paused for a brief moment then added. "I'll pay for my own food."
"Oh! We will come too!" Elara shouted with a smile as she pulled Arthur with her.
"...."
We had just met a few hours ago… Why did they act like that? At first, they approached me themselves, and now this?
Was becoming friends with the main characters always that easy? Then why did I have to use food to bait Zephyr when I was young?
"You can come. As the future apex, I'll generously pay for everything!" Zephyr announced as he accepted them.
"I like your confidence, but unfortunately, I'll be the first year apex." Arthur said casually as he shrugged his shoulders.
"I'd love to see you say that again when I cut off your wings!"
"You may not know, but I can easily regenerate my wings and say that again!"
I teleported to the door and waited for them to follow.
'Some things really never change…'
Even though they had just met and many things were different from the original novel, they still ended up as rivals.
Maybe that was related to fate, the fucking fate that never meant a good thing.
Anyway, my talking with Selene would need to wait for some time. My luck with the main characters was great for now, and I wasn't going to waste a chance to deepen our connection.
After everyone finally arrived, we left the academy's main building looking for some restaurants to test, ignoring Arthur and Zephyr who kept arguing.
The corners of my lips suddenly curled into a smile. It… wasn't bad to be surrounded by people.
Unfortunately, I knew that I couldn't just have fun here.
I glanced at Arthur, despite his yelling, he couldn't hide his smile. I couldn't help but remember how in the end — he failed and died alone.
Currently, in the best case scenario, whatever was what he got as reward would be enough to change the end.
But in the worst case, nothing would change. Everyone would die and he would fail again.
And if I was the only reincarnator, then only I had the ability to make any small change.
Not for Arthur, not for this world, but for me and who I cared about.
