Chapter 75: Young Master
Staring at the ceiling out of boredom, I recalled what I had learnt about the academies.
This world didn't have something like unemployment. Due to the war, the government and the 4 main kingdoms decided to use all the humanoid resources like me the moment they turn 18. Thus, the academies were made.
There was an academy for each different profession, ensuring that no one would stay unemployed even if they wanted to stay as one.
There was the Exalted academy for who awakened their mana and recently their aether. There was the cultivators academy for those who awakened their aura. There were also many different academies for normal people like cooking, servicing, cleaning, accounting, farming and so on.
And unfortunately, attending an academy wasn't optional. They would put everyone under some tests to see what they have talents on. And for Exalted and cultivators, it was extremely rare for one to enter a normal academy. After all, why would they let a valuable fighter that could use magic work in a random restaurant?
Every year all the people that turned 18 will enter a similar ship like the one I was in. This ship would make sure that everyone reached safely to the place where all the academies were located.
Why didn't they use a spatial gate?
It was definitely for safety! There was no way to lock a spatial gate. Everyone could enter them easily, including demons. They just needed to be a little fast to enter it before anyone could stop them.
And why was the ship safer? Because even though this sea was so beautiful, it was actually a dead zone.
Dead zones were basically places that contained the strongest beasts in Eldoria.
Of course there wouldn't be a place safer than a dead zone to put the academies in, right? If demons wanted to pass through the sea without dying, they would need something similar to this ship, which would be slow, big, and easy to detect.
That was why no one was allowed to leave their room. The ship would definitely get attacked in the way so they didn't want to see any student dying. And the air was even more dangerous from what I had heard so flying wasn't optional either.
*Clank!*
Cutting my thoughts off, the room's door opened and a figure walked in.
My eyes landed on a beautiful girl. Wearing an elegant white dress and walking barefoot with shaking legs, she had long, silky, bright red hair that cascaded over her shoulder reaching her back, and a pair of eyes with the same color.
But what took my attention and made me confused were the red fin ears she had.
"Give me… a second!" She closed the door behind her and started walking to the bed slowly.
And by slowly I meant that even a turtle would be faster! She was moving like a toddler that had just learnt how to walk!
After 5 minutes, she barely took a few steps forward.
Unable to keep watching, I asked with the calmest voice I could make: "Do you maybe need some help…?"
"Yes… please…" She replied quietly with red cheeks.
I wrapped her arm around my shoulder and supported her to reach the bed on the left. Once she sat on it, her legs suddenly fused together turning into a red fish tail.
My eyes widened. 'A mermaid! No wonder there was a smell of fish.'
The mermaid let out a breath of relief.
"Haah, how comfortable! I really hate legs…" she suddenly turned her head at me. "Thank you for the help! My name is Alexia by the way. Nice to meet you!"
I sat on the bed in the middle and replied: "My name is Raylin. Nice to meet you too…"
My eyes then landed on her tail. Unable to hold my curiosity I asked: "I have never seen a mermaid so I want to ask about something, if you don't mind of course."
Alexia shook her head. "It's okay. I know we are cool and rare. I completely understand." A stupid grin spread across her face but I ignored it.
"Do you mermaids always live in water? You don't seem to be used to using humanoid legs. And are those legs an innate ability?"
Her face turned red again. "... It's probably only me who can't use her legs properly. I have always used an artifact because I hated walking… but now that they took it from me I had to use my legs…"
"Cough… and yes! I can easily switch between legs and tail! It's as normal as breathing to me."
Satisfied by the answer, I was going to ask about her ears until suddenly—
*Clank!*
Someone else entered the room.
He was a man with short green hair and bright green eyes. He wore clothes that I could say were too expensive from just a look.
He had a wide grin on his face. The expression he had on his face was literally screaming arrogance.
His eyes landed on us. We waved to him but his face suddenly turned into disgust.
"Did they put me with a filthy hybrid and a fish?! Me? Jake Duskwood?!"
"Duskwood?!" My eyes widened in disbelief as I repeated his family name.
An even wider grin spread across Jake's face. "Hoho, even a commoner like you knows my family's name, huh? Then do something useful and cook something for me. I'm quite hungry."
Of course I knew this name.
How couldn't I?
After all, it was a family that tried to make my mother sign a marriage contract! Yet, by pure coincidence, a member of it ended up in my room!
It also turned out that he was probably a typical young master. That was my favourite type of stupid character.
'Maybe I should give him a small lesson…'
"Hey! Do you hear me?" The young master cut my thoughts off. "I wasn't asking, but ordering!"
Alexia gritted her teeth. "You don't have any power here. Your family can't do anything!"
"Don't underestimate the Duskwood family, you fucking fish!"
With a wide smile, I stood up, walked to the door, and closed it.
There was a list of rules that was sent to us yesterday. One of those rules was too interesting for me.
The fighting was allowed so long as we didn't cause a serious injury.
"Hey little young master." I called Jake who was looking at me with confusion. "Can you say that famous line? I always wanted to hear it."
"Huh? Little young master?" He gritted his teeth. "Courting death!"
*CRACK!*
Satisfied by the answer, I threw a punch that broke his nose.
Jake fell on the ground while bleeding from his nose aggressively. "Ahhh…! My nose! Courting death! My father wi…"
Looking at me again, he began to shake.
Not only him, but even Alexia was shaking slightly.
My face was now covered by Night Terror, and I let my fear effect focus on Jake.
I wasn't using my aura pressure, so I didn't break the rules. And I didn't even need to use it anyway. After becoming Tier 3 Exalted a few months ago, my mask improved significantly in the aspect of fear.
"Remember, Jake. You can't use your aura here." I said with the calmest and most charming voice I could make as I started moving to Jake.
It was the time to let a young master know his place.
