Reincarnated as the Last Villain

Chapter 12: The Weight of the Spear

Part I – The Spear Awakens

Lightning coiled in Kael's grip. The Spear of Astrael, now awakened, pulsed with divine light—its golden shaft wrapped in scripture, its edge flickering with the voice of a god.

Across the battlefield of clouds, Zerath stood still, cloak billowing, shadows rising from beneath his feet like sentient tendrils.

Between them: Vaenira—sword drawn, eyes torn between past and present.

No more words.

Kael lunged.

Part II – Clash of Light and Shadow

The sky exploded.

Kael's first strike split the air like thunder. Zerath blocked it with one palm—his arm glowing with forbidden glyphs.

Kael screamed, "You stole my world!"

Zerath countered with a blast of shadow flame. "You never had one."

They clashed midair—speeds beyond mortal sight. Light spears versus abyssal claws. Each strike of the Spear summoned echoes of Kael's memories—his village, his sister, his first love… burned away.

And for the first time—

Zerath bled.

He staggered back, lip split.

"You've grown, boy," he said, smiling. "Almost worthy."

Kael raised the Spear again, eyes glowing.

"I'm not done."

Part III – Vaenira Breaks

Below them, Vaenira dropped to her knees.

She wasn't supposed to see this.Wasn't supposed to feel like this.

Each time Kael bled, she flinched. Each time Zerath smiled, she ached.

She remembered being thirteen—training with Kael. She remembered being sixteen—killing her first man for Zerath.

Two lives.Two loyalties.

And now, one would die.

She screamed and raised her blade—

"Stop!"

Both men turned—just for a second.

And the sky cracked.

Part IV – The Spear's Curse

The Spear of Astrael surged in Kael's hands—too much.It pulsed not with Kael's will—but its own.

"End him," it whispered."All villains must die."

Kael's arms moved without his command. His rage, his pain, his righteousness—twisted into something holy… and monstrous.

He lunged again—this time, the Spear not aiming for Zerath's chest—

But his head.

Zerath barely dodged.

And in that moment, Kael realized:He wasn't in control.

Part V – The Mercy That Shouldn't Be

Zerath knelt.

His left side scorched. One eye bleeding.

Kael stood over him, Spear raised.Vaenira shouted, but her voice was drowned by wind.

Zerath looked up.

"Do it," he whispered. "Be the hero they want."

Kael trembled. The Spear pulled. But… he resisted.

He dropped the Spear—just for a second. And with it, the storm calmed.

"No," Kael said. "I won't become you."

Part VI – The Retreat

Zerath, defeated—but alive—vanished into shadow.

Kael collapsed.

Vaenira caught him.

"Why?" she asked. "Why spare him?"

"Because I still remember… who we were before he turned us into this."
