Chapter 68: Letting Go Of The Past
"Everyone, there's a Spatial Quake alarm, please evacuate immediately!"
Okamine-sensei hurried inside their class with a panicky voice and asked the students to evacuate as soon as possible. Right behind her, Reine followed at a slower pace, her usual sluggish composure unchanged, as if the impending disaster didn't concern her in the slightest.
Okamine-sensei quickly scanned the room, making sure all the students were present, before finally noticing another figure already standing at the front of the class.
"Ah! Tachibana-sensei, you're also here, I'm glad!" Okamine-sensei patted her chest while breathing a sigh of relief seeing that there was already a teacher with them.
Meanwhile, Tachibana-sensei, the one who had been lecturing before the alarm sounded, turned to face them. She was composed, but the thin sheen of sweat on her forehead betrayed her concern.
"Okamine-sensei, Murasame-sensei, could you assist me with the evacuation process?" she gently asked after nodding at them.
Although Tachibana-sensei's expression was composed, there was still a hint of worry as glistening sweat flowed on her beautiful face.
Reine gave a slow nod, her eyes half-lidded as usual. "Understood."
"Everyone, don't panic!"
"Walk in an orderly manner!"
Okamine-sensei's eyes darted left and right, scanning the classroom with a nervous expression. However, her exaggerated reaction had the opposite effect, easing the tension rather than reinforcing it.
A few students exchanged wry smiles, silently thinking that, of all people, their teacher was the most panicked one here.
"I'm sorry about her..." Reine was already used to Okamine-sensei's weird behavior so she was not surprised. Yet, she apologized to Tachibana sensei who looked speechless at Okamine-sensei.
Tachibana-sensei, who had initially been taken aback by Okamine's anxious antics, turned to Reine and met her half-lidded and unreadable face. Though Reine's expression barely changed, Tachibana-sensei could sense that she was also a little awkward with Okamine-sensei's exaggerated reaction.
Letting out a sigh, Tachibana-sensei shook her head and decided to ignore Okamine-sensei's panicky personality. "Let's focus on evacuating the students," she said, stepping in to assist with the process.
With that, the three teachers worked together to guide the students toward the designated shelter. Meanwhile, among the orderly crowd, three individuals remained still, exchanging knowing glances.
"Shido, what's evacuate?" Tohka tilted her head and asked Shido with an innocent expression.
Shido watched Tohka's clueless face which looked dumb yet cute at the same time. Despite the atmosphere being a little tense stirred by their classmates' nervousness, Shido couldn't resist the temptation of patting her head as she was just so adorable like a puppy.
"Uhehehe~" Tohka let out a surprised sound at Shido's sudden action, but the moment she felt his hand on her head, her expression softened. A silly yet blissful smile spread across her face as she basked in the warmth of his touch.
Shido was enjoying the sensation of patting Tohka's head and watching her adorable reaction when he suddenly felt a tug on his sleeve. Turning his head to the side, he found Origami staring at him with her usual blank expression.
"Unfair." Origami uttered a single word before falling silent again, as if waiting to be treated equally.
Shido didn't have mind-reading abilities, but as he gazed into her deep blue eyes, he could easily guess what she wanted.
Shido let out a wry smile before placing his other hand atop Origami's head, gently patting her. Just like Tohka, Origami revealed a blissful look on her expressionless face, she also felt good when Shido touched her head.
His touch was so gentle and warm, yet when she was in the bed with him, his hands were so fierce yet gentle. Touching every inch of her body as if he were claiming her body for himself. Yet she didn't actually mind and even felt that it felt good to be desired by the person you love.
With that thought on her mind, Origami felt her body become a little hot as a quiet moan escaped her red lips.
"Mn~"
Shido immediately noticed the change and blinked in confusion. "Origami? What's wrong?" However, as composed as ever, Origami quickly composed herself as if nothing happened.
"Nothing, I was just enjoying your patting," Origami replied, her face changed back to normal.
"Shido, don't stop your hands!" Tohka pouted, puffing her cheeks adorably. She had been thoroughly enjoying the head pats, but when she saw Shido's attention shift to Origami, jealousy flared within her. Crossing her arms, she huffed in frustration and pouted.
Shido turned to face Tohka, then glanced back at Origami, who was still enjoying his pats. He let out a weary sigh, feeling mentally drained by the two. Origami resembled a white cat, contentedly snuggling against its owner, while Tohka was like an agitated dog, barking in protest at the thieving cat for stealing her rightful spot.
"Is it really the time for that?" Shido said, he felt in distress with these two on his side. They are still in the same spot when the students are now leaving the room.
"Let's focus on evacuating first," Shido said, grabbing the hands of the two troublesome girls and pulling them toward the door.
The two didn't have much reaction when he held their hands and just enjoyed the feeling of his warm and rough hands.
However, as much as Origami wanted to stay by his side, she had her duties. With a quiet exhale, she let go of Shido's hand.
"I have to go."
Shido watched Origami who didn't say anything after that was just silently standing in her position. He knew what was going on and sighed in his heart.
"Origami..." Shido helplessly sighed as he looked at her with a bitter smile showing on his face.
Origami still couldn't leave her Organization as of now, so she still needed to do her job.
Origami met his gaze, already aware of the words he wanted to say, even without him speaking them. A serious expression crossed her face, and she reassured him.
"I know."
Hearing her reply, Shido finally released the worry in his heart and looked at her gently. "Thank you." He said, feeling grateful and happy that she was now letting go of her hatred towards Spirits.
He was originally worried that Origami might still go hunt Spirits but looking at her right now, Shido knew that he would do no more to Spirits anymore.
