Chapter 13 : Testing the Scythe's sharpness
Cale stood before the Eldritch Horror Boss, the air crackling with tension. The creature, its grotesque form crowned with a twisted deer mask, emanated a primal fury that sent shivers down the spines of any nearby civilians. But instead of fear, a confident smirk curled at the corners of Cale’s lips. He could feel the adrenaline surging through his veins, fueling his every instinct.
As the Eldritch charged forward, sharp claws slashing through the air, Cale sidestepped gracefully, allowing the creature to overshoot its attack. The moment it stumbled past him, he pivoted on his heel, swinging his scythe in a wide arc, but the Eldritch deftly evaded his strike. Their eyes locked for an instant—Cale's cool determination clashing against the creature's hunger.

“You’ll have to do better than that,” he taunted, his voice steady and mocking. With each exchange, he moved with precision, dancing around the creature’s attacks while keeping his own offense sharp.
Cale continued to play this dangerous game, allowing the Eldritch to attack first, testing its speed and strength. Each time it came at him, claws outstretched, he countered with a calculated feint or a sudden roll to avoid its grasp, making it seem almost effortless. Cale could feel the creature’s frustration mounting as it failed to land a single blow.
“I’ve fought scarier things in my sleep,” he remarked, his grin widening. The Eldritch snarled, its hollow eyes narrowing with rage. It charged again, more ferociously this time, trying to overwhelm Cale with sheer aggression. But he remained calm, letting the creature expend its energy while he meticulously calculated his next move.
With a sudden burst of speed, Cale ducked beneath a wild swipe and thrust his scythe upward, grazing the Eldritch’s side. Dark energy crackled along the blade, causing the creature to screech in pain, but it quickly retaliated with a backhanded strike. Cale narrowly dodged, feeling the rush of air from the creature’s claws as they passed by him.
“Is that all you’ve got?” he teased, a spark of exhilaration in his eyes. The Eldritch snarled in response, now fueled by a mix of rage and desperation. It launched itself at Cale again, but he was ready this time.
Cale feigned vulnerability, allowing the Eldritch to believe it had the upper hand. As it lunged, he sidestepped once more, but instead of merely evading, he spun around and delivered a powerful kick to the creature's midsection. The Eldritch staggered back, its surprise evident, but Cale pressed the advantage.
“Now it’s my turn,” he declared, his voice carrying an edge of authority. He charged forward, unleashing a flurry of swift strikes, his scythe a blur as he targeted the Eldritch’s vulnerable points. With every slash, he felt the creature’s strength waning, its movements becoming sluggish as Cale capitalized on its weaknesses.
Just when the Eldritch attempted to regain its footing, Cale leaped into the air, twisting gracefully as he brought the scythe down in a powerful arc. The weapon connected with the creature's shoulder, cleaving through flesh and sinew. The Eldritch roared in agony, its form beginning to collapse under the relentless assault.
As the creature writhed in pain, Cale took a moment to catch his breath, watching with a mix of amusement and satisfaction. “I guess it’s time to finish this,” he said, his tone casual as he readied himself for the final blow.
With renewed determination, he charged once more, his scythe glowing with dark energy. The Eldritch, now desperate, attempted one last attack, lunging at Cale with its claws outstretched. But he was ready. Cale sidestepped the strike effortlessly, pivoting around to land a final, decisive blow.
“Goodbye,” he whispered, his scythe slicing through the air with deadly precision. The blade found its mark, driving deep into the Eldritch's chest. Dark energy erupted from the wound as the creature let out one last, heart-wrenching screech before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.
Cale placed his scythe on his shoulders as he stepped back, watching as the Eldritch’s form dissipated into the darkness, leaving behind only a faint shimmer of energy. He felt a surge of exhilaration, not just from the victory, but from the thrill of the fight. He had toyed with it, matched its strength, and emerged victorious, all while keeping his guard intact. The civilians look in awe at him.

'That was a good test of my strength,' Cale thought but then came to a realization. 'I have to find the military; what am I doing right now?' Cale looked at the civilians and asked, "Did you see any military nearby?" But they shook their heads in rejection.
"Tch, I wasted my time for nothing," Cale whispered to himself in anger.
Cale gave one last look at them to see if anyone would step forward, but no one did, so he left quickly.
