Reality Breaker: Edge of Reality

Chapter 14: A Race Against Time

...

Cale once again searched for the military but suddenly got an idea. So he climbed a tallest building nearby.

"Hey System!" Cale called out.

Ding!

With a sudden sound. The system suddenly appeared infront of him with his information (info).

"Can I use my points to search the area?" asked Cale seriously.

[Loading]

Ding!

[Use 1 point to search the area?] [Limit : 500 meters]

[Use or No?]

"Use it" Cale said seriously.

[One point consumed to use "Area search"] [Range : 500 meters]

Infront of Cale the entire 500 meters became digital as blue lines spread from his heels enveloping everything.

Cale was a bit taken back at this new method. But it had only been 1 second before several yellow and blue panels appeared in front of him.

[Information (Info):

Name : None

Level : 8

Rank : F-Rank

Species : Fire Lizard

Description : Born in hot atmospheres, Highly aggressive, attack with fire.] [Weakness : Water, coldness]

[Information (Info):

Name : None

Level : 9

Rank : F-Rank

Species : Poisonous tepes

Description : Large flying birds, attack anything in the sky weaker than them, Act as if the sky is theirs] [Weakness : Larger and stronger birds than them] ... etc.

Cale was shocked but he scanned the information from the system, his eyes moving rapidly across the various panels detailing the creatures in his vicinity. None of them were the military or anything remotely helpful to his current mission. With a frustrated sigh, he let the digital overlay fade from his view.

“Sign~. Looks like I have to go back," Cale muttered to himself. Time wasn’t on his side, and each moment he spent chasing distractions could be another moment his family might be in danger. He couldn’t afford that risk.

The thought of his mother and Minho flashed through his mind. What if something happened while he was out here, toying with low-level creatures? He clenched his fists. He had already wasted enough time. If he let them down, he wouldn’t forgive himself. But as his eyes flicked back to the panels, his gaze settled on the information about the Poisonous Tepes attacking the skies.

“But should I go and kill those Poisonous Tepes?” Cale pondered. As they were F-Rank creatures, hardly a threat to him, and dealing with them wouldn’t take long. He considered the civilians that could still be caught in the chaos. Was it worth the detour?

He made his decision. "I’ll make it quick." Cale moved, determination fueling his steps as he descended the building in swift, practiced motions. The Poisonous Tepes weren’t going to harm any more people if he had a say in it.

With a burst of speed, he dashed towards the area where the creatures had already begun to dive-bomb panicking civilians. Their large wings flapped with malicious intent as they screeched across the sky, staking their claim.

Cale's eyes locked onto the nearest one. His scythe appeared in his hand, and with a sharp upward slash, he moved faster than the creature could react. One clean slice, and it fell from the sky, limp.

Ding!

[Poisonous tepes killed : 500 exp]

Another Tepes swooped down, its claws outstretched. Cale smirked and sidestepped its attack easily, cutting through its wings in a single motion. It plummeted to the ground, screeching in pain before going silent.

Ding!

[Poisonous tepes killed : 500 exp]

He took down a few more in rapid succession, his movements fluid and efficient. The creatures, though aggressive, were no match for him. Each strike was precise, and each kill was quick. There was no need to prolong the fight with such weak foes. He heard many notification from the system but ignored them.

Within minutes, the are was clear.

Cale looked around, ensuring that no more creatures lingered. The civilians, who had been scattered and afraid, slowly began to regroup, realizing that the threat had passed.

With the job done, he turned on his heel and moved toward the city center again. His thoughts returned to his family. This was just a minor distraction; he couldn't afford any more delays.

...

Cale ran back along the route he came from but noticed that there were fewer creatures on the roads and in the sky, and some were even dead. This made him think, "Who killed them?"

Cale did hear the system say that he was the first to use a trait and all that, but has someone else also used a trait to become strong?

After a while, Cale reached a building not far from his house. He could clearly see everything. But what he saw relieved some of the danger weighing on his heart.

He saw the military already in his neighborhood, taking the civilians and his family to safety.

He took a deep breath as his racing heart calmed down.
