Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 285: The Barrier

Rael let out a sigh.

"Well, aren't you a sly bitch?"

"..."

The woman's eyes widened.

"Huh?"

"You heard me." Rael scoffed. "I literally have a bag of chips to my name, and you want me to share? Are you serious? Do you want me to hand out one chip each to all of you, eh? Fucking idiots..."

His little outburst caused the entire Jade Palace to fall silent.

The hall was wide, with tall jade pillars and a smooth stone floor. A few lanterns hung overhead, casting a faint green light. At the far end stood a single throne. Storage rooms lined the sides, their doors tightly shut.

That silence was soon broken by the man who sat on the throne.

"Pfft... hahaha..." The man let out a laugh. "Say, do I know you?"

"I doubt it," Rael replied. "...Do I know you?"

"I'm Wukong, one of the top rankers of Sketa Online," the man introduced himself. "Though if you don't know me by that name... how about Bai Yun, the most famous idol in the entire world?"

"I don't watch those singing sausage fests," Rael said flatly, then pointed at the woman. "Since you seem like the person in charge, mind telling this persistent woman to fuck off?"

The woman's hands trembled, and Yun let out yet another laugh.

"Hahah... very well, Nayun, leave him alone," Yun stated. "We don't need food when the Jade Palace already has a full food storage."

Rael tilted his head.

"Then what was that about?"

"A test to see whether you're a pushover, or someone I can actually respect," Yun replied. "On one end, the monsters will be invading soon, so I suggest you grab a weapon and stand behind."

A faint blue glow of mana left his palm as another barrier emerged right at the entrance of the Jade Palace.

And right at that moment, someone tried to run in, yet slammed into the newly erected barrier.

"Hey! Let me in! I'm the last one! I swear!" the man yelled, banging on the barrier as panic began to set in. "H-Hey now... the monsters are right behind me, if you don't let me in then I'll di—AAAAAAH!"

The man was dragged by his legs at a speed Rael could barely track.

He gulped and moved to the side, spotting a nearby storage area.

Rael inspected it, noticing food and even a few swords.

Sadly, there wasn't any armor, but he'd work with what he could get.

—Shabby Bronze Sword (Common)

Durability: 58/100

Damage: 22-28

+8 Strength

+4 Agility

+10 Constitution

It dealt a little less damage than the metal bar he used earlier, but due to the stat gain, it was a bit more worth it.

With that, he stepped toward the people who were gathered around and waited.

But he didn't have to wait long, as loud thumping noises resounded from outside the barrier, followed by the outer shell of the Jade Palace being torn off.

The building looked as if it might collapse, but under Yun's strong barrier, they remained unharmed.

Yet as the minutes passed, the Jade Palace itself was destroyed more and more, until eventually, the entirety of what was happening outside the barrier was in clear view.

Monsters climbed the barrier, trying their best to break through.

Boulders the size of cars flying at it, weapons of all kinds being used.

And yet, the barrier remained unchanging.

So much so that Rael began to think Yun wasn't exactly a normal human.

He was either placed here by the ones who started this Awakening Apocalypse, or... he might've gotten a Legendary rarity class.

Despite all this time passing, Rael didn't even see a single bead of sweat drop from Yun's forehead.

He's finding it easy to hold off all these monsters... and it hasn't even been a full hour since the apocalypse started, Rael thought, narrowing his eyes. He's no higher than level 10. But his strength is definitely above that if he can hold back these monsters.

Naturally, Rael was wary.

Yet as his wariness was reaching the pinnacle, a sharp crack echoed through the barrier.

—CRACK

Cracks formed at the very top of the barrier, spiraling down with each hit the monsters delivered.

And that was when the rest of the survivors finally took this situation seriously.

"Yun! What the fuck do we do now?" a survivor asked. "I thought you said you could protect us!"

A moment of silence ensued, followed by a distant chuckle.

"I lied."

Not even a second later, the barrier fully vanished, causing monsters to crash down into the area they were in.

But more surprising was Yun, who stood up after creating a barrier around himself.

He walked past the survivors who were fighting monsters and even received a few hits.

Yet his barrier was so durable that not even a single attack managed to graze him.

So as Rael finally got into the stance to fight, he saw Yun blend into the crowd of monsters, then slowly make his way down the Jade Palace stairs, completely abandoning all of the survivors here.

Thankfully, Rael was at the very edge of the barrier, on the opposite side of the stairs, so there weren't many monsters.

But even so, he took a step back as a skeleton was about to fall on top of him.

Using the hilt of his sword, he drove it straight into its skull, shattering it.

-63! Critical Hit!

<DING! You have slain: Skeleton Soldier (x1) [Level 2]: Minor Experience increase.>

Following that was a werewolf-type monster, and clearly, it was much stronger than the skeleton or the rats he had faced.

So with that in mind, Rael stepped forward, arriving in front of the werewolf.

Just as its claws were about to reach him, Rael ducked and extended his leg right at the werewolf's no-no square.

-41! Critical Hit!

—ARF!

It did a bit of damage, but it was nowhere near dead, so before it could snap out of its post-ball-hit clarity, Rael thrust his sword straight into its neck, slicing through it like butter.

<DING! You have slain: Lesser Werewolf (x1) [Level 5]: Moderate Experience increase.>

<You've reached Level 4!>

<+2 Free Stat Points>
