Raze A Dystopian Adventure

Chapter 4: Chapter 4 - Progress

It has been almost a year since the start of the relocation of humans. Humanity went through many drastic changes, with the most being their personalities. Due to constant attacks from the invaders along the journey, many had honed their survival instincts. The expressions of most people looked anything but kind. They had all been taught a bitter rule, survival of the fittest! It is only with wits and strength can one survive this state.

Many gave up halfway through, and though they were yet to get there, they had hopes that they would one day.

"Just a bit more, I'll finally have a long rest." Said a man sitting before a burning fire of wood. Eight people sat around him. Three females and five males.

"Rest? You haven't even reached the city, you're dreaming about rest. Better for you to stop being delusional. The choice is yours." Replied a man in the group.

"I wonder why the government decided not to intervene when we were under constant attack." A man, who had a scar on his left cheek spoke, deciding to ignore the previous topic.

"Who doesn't know that they decided to abandon us, to make just only the ones worthy would make it to the city," replied the man who first spoke.

"I'm very certain that when getting to the fabled city, we will be asked to join the military."

"I do not care about that. Military or not, I'm getting my revenge in full. This God knows what creatures just think they can come and behave anyhow they like!" Spoke another man in the group. He wore a red top with red trousers. Then, as if he remembered something horrible, he shook. Yes, he shook. The others looked at him and didn't show him any pity. They all had their fair share of experiencing dread when the thought of eliminating the gigantic creature crossed their minds.

After several seconds, he breathed a sigh of relief as he could feel an invisible weight lifted off him.

"Hope you do not have suicidal thoughts any longer. You should learn to control your thoughts as you know many have died because of this. "A lady spoke as she munched on a slice of bread garnished with fishes. The lady had a few braids loose on her head. She wore a loose top with fitting jeans. Her expression showed little pity as she had also experienced it herself. She expected the man to have at least developed some restraints while expressing himself, but it seemed like his revenge always gets the best of him.

"I heard the Central City is very different from the past as it has become very advanced" Another lady in the group mentioned. Some people from another group closer to her turned their heads over wondering why she decided to mention it again.

"What!?" She coldly gazed back. Truth br told, she herself has forgotten the number of times she said this. Maybe it's just to relieve her stress or something else, she was the only one who knows.

"I can't wait to get to the city to get better equipments, and probably a good suit. Slaughtering those monsters would be as easy as killing chickens then" The scar-faced man said. He licked his lips as he imagined himself in a battle suit killing monsters.

Some people shook their heads. The man was very bloodthirsty and had even killed a fellow human in a bid to slaughter a human. From then on, some decided to keep away from.

Discussions could be heard everywhere as people gathered in groups either to talk or just to keep one another company. They had developed the routine of staying at a place for a week or two after days of traveling, to relieve stress. The journey that should take them a total of three months, will probably take around five months to complete, not counting those that are closer to the city. Many preferred the longer journey, as they would get to see their place for a while before leaving because they didn't know when next they would visit their home.

Somewhere in the territory occupied by the invaders.

The sky rumbled as lightning raced across the sky constantly. Torrents of rain poured heavily on the ground as the wind blew strongly. Few creatures could be seen around, doing nothing in particular, like they had lost their sense of purpose. The territory seemed to be divided into three zones. The outer zine, the inner zone and the core zone.

The outer zone which was far from the border between humans and the invaders was occupied by low-level creatures. These creatures can be said to be canon fodder, as they are the ones that constantly attack the border.

Yes! Humans have just been having it strong against the low-level creatures. The invaders follow a strict hierarchy as only the higher level ones enjoy the most benefits. Only the strongest are meant to be in control. That's the reason few inner area creatures come out to kill. They saw killing humans slightly beneath them.

Some humans thought these creatures didn't have intelligence, but rather preferred to cause chaos. Only if they knew how wrong they were, they would they have quickened their relocation to the city.

The invaders treated humans as a means of training the low-level ones. The outer area consists mainly of creatures that can not fly and whose battle strength is low.

The inner area consists mainly of creatures that can fly and have high battle strength. Most of them are large enough to fit two houses together. The inner area is more peaceful compared to the outer area with disturbing personalities.

The core area is the biggest of them, as it is rumored to house the beast that named itself END and other powerful creatures. The core leaders of human race decided to name it END. An extremely large tree that had it's crown concealed within the clouds could be seen in the middle of the core area with five fruits hanging on it that gave off a very vibrant aura. The tree's red leaves gave off a vibrant glow with the moon reflecting on it. A little creature could be seen lying beside the tree snoring softly as it slept. Claps of thunder could be heard every time this creature snored.

The creature suddenly opened its eyes as its eyes darted around vigilantly as if searching for something. It sniffed the air but didn't perceive anything suspicious, it then snorted and closed its eyes to sleep.

A few seconds later, a man could be seen floating at a distance in a transparent sphere. The man, dressed in an armored suit equipped with futuristic gadgets breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at the snoring creature asleep.

'Good thing I didn't move further. One more step and I would have met my end.' He then tapped on a red button on his right arm, which released red gas towards the sleeping creature. The creature snorted as it inhaled it. Then a few minutes later, its breathing became rhythmic. He proceeded to fly higher to the tree. He moved towards the fruit. The fruit, bigger than his head, with a sparkling red color, made him tempted, but he cautioned himself as he did not want his greed to ruin all his efforts.

He tapped another button on his suit, which made a tiny camera emerge, and then proceeded to scan the fruit. After a successful beep, the camera returned. A drone could be seen disengaging its concealment as it plucked the fruit and dropped it in the box they came with. They moved along to get the two more fruits before finally leaving. The man heaved a sigh of relief after he successfully exited the invaders' territory.

He wondered how the government could quickly invent something of that caliber that could almost completely hide from the invaders. He knew one misstep was all it took for him to lose his life. He then moved to a safe location, and contacted his superiors, telling them the good news.

"Good, you can return now. And be safe", a feminine voice could be heard from the other side. The man kept the communication device then tapped a series of buttons on his suit which made a transparent door appear before him. He checked his surroundings once more to ensure there were no lurking creatures around. As the doorway transportation was still in it's middle stages of development, it took him a few minutes for him to get to his destination and a few minutes for the door to close automatically.

So, if a creature was near, it could take advantage of using the imperfection to cause chaos. That's why the government decided it would not be used by everyone, only high ranking officials.

A few seconds later, the figure of a woman appeared at the exact position the man had entered the door. Dressed in ancient clothing, with her hair braided, she looked otherworldly.

"Thought I felt someone's presence now." She muttered to herself as she looked around.

"Strange. I can't detect who it is clearly. Well, this world is full of surprises." She then giggled as she disappeared.
