RAIWAN AGAINST THE DIVINE

Chapter 9: A Deadly Mistake

Chapter 9: A Deadly Mistake

Lisa's ability was lightning, one of the most dangerous powers in the world, and one primarily designed for offense. However, some of its skills had versatile uses. Currents of Paralysis was one such skill, not focused on attack, as the name implied; it paralyzed any living creature caught in its current.

It was because of this ability that all the Lords were paralyzed—both their bodies and minds—when Lisa used Currents of Paralysis, except for one person: an earth ability user.

Seeing the waves of current approaching, he encased himself in layers of earth, forming a protective shell that resembled a giant egg.

Even though Lisa's ability was at the Supreme level and his at the Lord level, he wasn't paralyzed. Earth was a natural counter to lightning.

Besides, Currents of Paralysis wasn't designed for offense.

Thus, he escaped with only minor bruises, something a Lord like him could easily ignore.

When the earth shell collapsed to the ground after being struck by the paralyzing lightning, he witnessed the catastrophe unfolding.

Lisa was preparing something foretold in myths.

Rain of Thunders.

Lightning shot from her body into the sky, forming a violent storm. Though her form was obscured by mist and dust, he knew the storm was coming from her.

'I can't let this happen,' he thought.

He dove toward Lisa, determined to stop her at any cost. In mere moments, he pierced through the mist and locked eyes with her, and as if she had been expecting him…

"Be the first," she said, swinging her hands down.

With that, the brewing storm released its fury. Thousands of bolts of lightning rained from the sky like falling stars.

Wherever they struck, a Lord was eliminated, leaving nothing but a well hundreds of meters deep.

All the Lords were annihilated, their bodies erased without a trace. They died not knowing the cause of their demise—unaware of their own deaths.

The land they had stood on was now a barren field of craters, each one deep, each one… burning.

Silence fell over the desolate landscape. No one dared to move, paralyzed by the uneasy silence.

Only Rahiq moved, appearing beside Lisa. He grimaced and sighed dejectedly.

"You're no fun, woman. Why kill everyone? You didn't even spare one for me."

"Are you showing off?" he asked with a raised brow.

She tapped him on the shoulder. "Don't worry… this is just the beginning."

She smiled teasingly and added with a wink, "Besides, this is where we die, remember?"

"Sorry about that, by the way," she added shortly after.

"What are you sorry about?" he asked, confused. But she remained silent, not offering him an answer.

Commotion eventually stirred on the grim battlefield.

"Hey, did one person just kill five hundred Lords in less than a minute? I'm seeing things right?"

"Yeah, I think so…" The other guy wasn't so sure.

"What do you think is happening up there?" someone asked from the back when he noticed the unnatural silence.

"I don't know, but it's chilling, man."

"Is it possible for a Sovereign to single-handedly take down five hundred Lords? Even a Red Sovereign?!" the prince asked, confused.

A grim, deathly silence followed. No one answered him.

"Your Majesty! What is going on? Why are you so grim?"

"Because we know the legend of Rahiq and Lisa," the king responded quietly.

The prince grew even more confused.

"Who are Rahiq and Lisa? The cleaners? No… their legend? These Sovereigns?" He was truly baffled.

"Now is not the time for this, my prince," the chief general intervened, coming to the king's aid.

The Information the king had let slip was an international secret. If word got out… well, it was better not to think about the consequences.

The king himself barely realized what he had said, lost in thought even after his blunder. How is this possible? Weren't they supposed to have died hundreds of years ago?

Rahiq and Lisa… could it really be them?

All those familiar with the legend were equally devastated.

If it's them… then not even thousands of Lords could stand against them.

Numbers were useless against such power.

Only hundreds of other Sovereigns could hope to make a difference.

As silence gripped the battlefield, with only small whispers floating through the air, several pillars of golden light descended from the sky, shaking the ground violently.

When the light faded, fifty figures stood where the pillars had descended. They looked around, but there was no sign of their comrades—only the craters that remained.

Fifty Sovereigns walked toward Lisa and Rahiq.

"You have caused more trouble for us than anyone in this world, Lisa," said an elderly woman at the center of the group. Her eyes searched the barren landscape for the bodies of her brethren.

"You knew what would happen to them if you sent them."

"But you could have shown mercy."

"Mercy?" Lisa laughed darkly. "They didn't deserve my mercy."

"Then you don't deserve mine either," the elderly woman said.

Saying that, her body began to turn to stone, sand pouring from every surface, even her clothes. Her right hand disintegrated into dust, forming a giant fist the size of a house that came crashing down on Lisa.

Rahiq jumped in front of Lisa, the air in front of him crystallizing, stopping the giant fist mid-strike.

A deep boom echoed as the fist collided with the crystalline shield.

Dust flew in waves, and the ground beneath their feet caved into a massive crater.

Rahiq turned to Lisa. "Take care of the rest. I'll deal with this annoying one."

She nodded and charged at the remaining forty-nine Sovereigns all alone.

Thus began a calamitous battle between three Red Sovereigns and forty-nine Sovereigns.

The essence of chaos spread.

Thousands of blows were exchanged in mere seconds.

All manner of projectiles were unleashed: lightning, water blasts, poisonous mist, summoned beasts, smoke shards, roots of corruption, elemental stones, cursed fruits…

In mere minutes, thousands of craters, rifts, and chasms scarred the earth.

Every step left a dent, turning the ground into a pitiful, distorted mess.

The citizens of San Raza were terrified by the chaos—the quakes and ear-piercing explosions that even the barrier could no longer contain. They fled in all directions, consumed by horror.

The knights could do nothing but watch. What could knights do against terror?

But the king and many others remained, even as the barrier threatened to collapse under the relentless assault.

They stayed, though they couldn't see the battle unfolding.

Rage, fear, sorrow, grief, hope—every emotion filled the air.

Minutes felt like hours, and hours passed with no clear victor.

Neither the sovereigns nor Lisa was able to harm the other.

Nothing was working against Lisa, not the powerful, ghastly beast they summoned, not the projectiles they threw and not the contract attacks they made.

Their advantage was rendered useless against her. They could only use their numbers to defense.

They were scared of entering Lisa's attack range, but they could not harm her from afar. Their trump card wasn't ready.

They needed time, a lot of time, but time was against them. The air was against them refusing to be breathed, refusing to fed the flames they unleashed.

Luck itself was against them until…

a couple of Sovereigns made a mistake.
