Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Red's Plan!
Pidgey was the first to take action. It flapped its wings rapidly and soared high into the sky, its goal clear: to locate its own kind.
Red's first plan was straightforward—Pidgey would find a group of its fellow species and then harass the Beedrill's territory, luring the Beedrills out. The escape route? Directly toward the gathering of wild Pidgeys.
Once Pidgey attracted the Beedrills to its fellow birds, a battle would naturally break out. Amid the chaos, Pidgey would slip away and return to Red, allowing him to seize the opportunity to capture the Shiny Iron-Shelled Pupa.
If it were a regular Iron-Shelled Pupa, Red could have handled the capture alone. However, a Shiny one was a rare find, and it possessed skills like Poison Needle, making it trickier to subdue.
The second part of Red's plan was even simpler: lure away the Unicorn Beetles. This was where Charmander came in.
With the Beedrills and the Unicorn Beetles distracted, Red would be free to move in and capture the Iron-Shelled Pupa without interference.
The Plan in Motion
After circling a few times, Pidgey's sharp eyes finally spotted a group of its own kind. A flock of Pidgeys were pecking at seeds on a grassy field not far away. With its primary goal achieved, Pidgey turned toward the Beedrill territory and put Red's plan into action.
At the same time, Red had found a perfect hiding spot in a dense tree. The foliage concealed his small frame while giving him a clear view of the battlefield. Should anything go wrong, he had an easy escape route.
As he settled onto a sturdy branch, he caught sight of a familiar figure speeding toward the Beedrill's territory—his Pidgey.
Pidgey wasted no time. It flapped its wings fiercely, summoning a powerful Gust attack aimed directly at the Beedrill's nesting area.
A strong wind swept through the trees, knocking over Unicorn Beetles foraging on the ground and shaking Iron-Shelled Pupae from their perches.
The Beedrills Strike Back
The sudden disturbance sent the guarding Beedrills into a frenzy. Their sharp cries echoed through the trees, summoning reinforcements. Within moments, five Beedrills emerged from various corners of the forest, their wings buzzing angrily as they took off after Pidgey.
Pidgey did not hesitate. With another flap of its wings, it unleashed another Gust attack to further scatter the Beedrills before darting away.
The Beedrills, however, were not so easily shaken off. Raising their stingers, they fired off a barrage of Poison Needles, their white glow streaking through the sky toward Pidgey.
Anticipating the attack, Pidgey swerved sharply, dodging every needle before retaliating with another Gust attack. Then, without wasting a second, it turned and sped off toward the Pidgey flock.
Drawing the Beedrills Away
"Hissss~"
The Beedrills screeched in anger. Their primary duty was to guard the nest, yet this intruder dared to attack them? Enraged, they abandoned their post and gave chase, leaving their territory unguarded.
Pidgey glanced back and smirked. The plan was working. Now, it just needed to reach the Pidgey flock and let nature take its course.
The Beedrills, growing increasingly frustrated, flapped their wings harder, determined to catch their tormentor. Their poisonous stingers glistened as they prepared another attack, their sights locked onto Pidgey.
But Pidgey had no intention of fighting them alone. It gave a final, taunting chirp before diving straight into its own kind. Instantly, the flock erupted into chaos. The wild Pidgeys, startled by the sudden appearance of their pursued kin, reacted instinctively—launching counterattacks of their own against the approaching Beedrills.
The sky filled with flapping wings, gusts of wind, and stingers flashing through the air. It was an all-out battle.
Satisfied, Pidgey slipped away unnoticed, heading back toward Red's location.
Charmander's Turn
With the Beedrills distracted, it was time for Charmander to carry out its part of the plan.
A small, orange head peeked out from the bushes. After scanning the surroundings, Charmander emerged, its flaming tail swishing confidently as it strolled toward the remaining Unicorn Beetles.
"Alone"
The Unicorn Beetles, startled by the sudden appearance of the small fire lizard, tensed. Despite their fear of its natural advantage, a few brave ones stepped forward, attempting to block Charmander's path.
Charmander, however, was unfazed. Instead, it grinned mischievously and shot a small Ember into the sky, letting it flicker ominously. Then, with a dramatic stomp of its tail, it struck the ground behind it, sending a small puff of dust into the air.
This display was enough to send panic through the Unicorn Beetles. Most of them immediately scattered, scuttling away in search of safety. The few that remained hesitated, torn between their instinct to flee and their duty to protect the territory.
But Charmander wasn't done yet. It took another step forward and unleashed another Ember, this time aiming it just close enough to singe the ground in front of the hesitant beetles.
That did the trick.
The remaining Unicorn Beetles turned tail and fled, leaving the area completely vacant.
The Capture
Red, who had been watching closely from his hiding spot, knew this was his moment.
As soon as Charmander confirmed the area was clear, Red climbed down from the tree and moved toward the Iron-Shelled Pupa he had been eyeing.
The Shiny Iron-Shelled Pupa was still hanging from a tree, its smooth, bright exterior making it stand out from the rest. It remained motionless, unaware of the events unfolding around it.
Red pulled out a Poké Ball and took a deep breath. He knew he had only one shot. The Iron-Shelled Pupa, while not aggressive, would not stay passive forever. If he failed the capture, it might retaliate with a Poison Needle attack.
With a swift motion, he tossed the Poké Ball.
The ball struck the Iron-Shelled Pupa and, in a flash of red light, sucked it inside. The ball wobbled on the ground, its center button blinking as the Pokémon inside struggled against capture.
Red held his breath.
One shake…
Two shakes…
Three shakes…
Click!
The Poké Ball stopped moving. The light dimmed.
Success!
Red let out a triumphant grin as he picked up the Poké Ball. He had done it. He had captured a Shiny Iron-Shelled Pupa!
Just then, Pidgey landed beside him, breathing heavily from its earlier escapade. Charmander also walked up, looking smugly at the empty battlefield.
Red chuckled. "Good job, you two. That went perfectly."
With the Beedrills still distracted and the Unicorn Beetles nowhere in sight, he decided it was best to leave before anyone realized what had happened.
With his new Pokémon in hand and a satisfied smirk on his face, Red turned and disappeared into the trees, his team following closely behind.
His journey was just beginning.
