Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Successfully Subdued the Iron Shell Pupa!
"Alone"
Seeing Charmander's intimidating stance, the unicorn beetles that had shown some courage just moments ago began trembling uncontrollably. They could no longer maintain their firm posture, and fear crept into their eyes.
Unconsciously, a terrifying image formed in their minds—a fire demon with a massive body, engulfed in flames, standing before them as if ready to consume them whole.
The thought alone was enough to send the unicorn beetles into a panic. Without hesitation, they scattered in all directions, diving into the surrounding grass in a desperate attempt to flee.
"Wow!?"
Charmander blinked in confusion as he watched the unicorn beetles flee. He had barely done anything, yet the battle was over before it had even begun.
This wasn't what Robert had said would happen. Where was the fierce fight he had promised? Where was the struggle? Charmander replayed his actions in his mind—he had simply let out a small burst of flame and flicked his tail.
However, with Charmander's small head and limited thinking capacity, he quickly gave up trying to understand the situation. Since the enemy had run away, there was no need to overthink it.
Just as he was about to let out a victorious roar, a familiar voice stopped him.
"Alright, Charmander, no need to shout. I'm here. I didn't expect those unicorn beetles to be so timid. They ran away from you in an instant," Robert said as he emerged from the bushes, a grin on his face.
"Wow!"
Charmander nodded in agreement. Even he hadn't expected the unicorn beetles to flee without a fight. They truly were timid creatures.
"In that case, aim for the Iron Shell Pupa on that tree and use Ember. It doesn't have to be too strong—just knock it down."
"Wow!"
Hearing the command, Charmander opened his mouth and fired a small burst of Ember at the Iron Shell Pupa clinging to the tree trunk.
Snap!
As expected, the shiny Iron Shell Pupa fell to the ground upon impact.
"Go, Poké Ball!"
Robert quickly pulled out a Luxury Ball from his belt and threw it at the fallen Iron Shell Pupa. The moment it made contact, the pupa was sucked inside.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
The Luxury Ball wobbled three times before coming to a complete stop.
"Got it!"
Robert rushed forward and picked up the Luxury Ball. Without wasting time, he turned to Charmander. "Let's go before those Beedrills come back."
Robert knew better than to stick around. If the Beedrills returned now, a one-on-one or even one-on-two battle would be manageable, but a five-on-one fight would be too much.
Without hesitation, he and Charmander quickly made their way back through the dense forest, heading toward their designated meeting point to wait for Pidgey's return.
---
Meanwhile…
At the same time Robert and Charmander were making their escape, Pidgey successfully lured five Beedrills into an area where other Pidgeys were foraging.
What happened next was predictable. The foraging Pidgeys, upon seeing the incoming Beedrills, assumed they were being attacked. Without hesitation, they launched into battle, unleashing a storm of pecks and gusts.
As for Pidgey? He had no intention of sticking around. The moment he neared his fellow Pidgeys, he quickly dove into the bushes, watching the chaos unfold from a safe distance.
Sure enough, the battle erupted instantly. The sky was filled with flashes of movement—Beedrills darting through the air, Pidgeys retaliating with fierce gusts. Poison needles rained down, countered by flapping wings and sharp beaks.
Watching from his hiding spot, Pidgey smirked. His plan had worked flawlessly. The Beedrills were now fully engaged in battle with the Pidgeys, which meant he could slip away unnoticed.
Without a second thought, Pidgey took off, flying low and fast toward the rendezvous point.
But just as he thought he had made a clean getaway, one of the Beedrills caught sight of him. In that instant, the Beedrill realized the truth—it had been tricked.
Its mission had been to protect the unicorn beetles and Iron Shell Pupae, but it had abandoned its post to chase a diversion. The realization hit hard, and rage surged through the Beedrill's body.
Acting quickly, it let out a loud, piercing buzz—a signal for the other Beedrills to return to their territory immediately.
"Hiss of beer~!"
The other four Beedrills, upon hearing the call, immediately understood the situation. They had been played. With furious buzzing, they abandoned the fight and rushed back to their home.
The Pidgeys, seeing the Beedrills retreat, erupted into cheers. They believed they had won the battle and driven the Beedrills away. Unbeknownst to them, they had simply been caught in the middle of someone else's scheme.
The five enraged Beedrills flew at top speed, racing back to their territory. The moment they arrived, they were greeted by a sight that filled them with dread—huddled together were the unicorn beetles, their eyes filled with tears, trembling in fear.
Seeing their fellow Pokémon in such a pitiful state, the Beedrills instantly knew something terrible had happened in their absence.
Sure enough, as they listened to the unicorn beetles explain what had transpired, their buzzing grew louder and more agitated.
The entire forest trembled with the furious buzzing of Beedrills, their cries filled with anger and frustration toward the Pidgey that had tricked them.
---
Back at the meeting point, Robert leaned against a tree, tossing the Luxury Ball up and down in his hand. "That went smoother than expected."
Charmander nodded, still confused about how he had scared off the unicorn beetles so easily.
Moments later, a blur of feathers appeared in the sky. Pidgey, looking quite pleased with himself, landed in front of Robert.
"Bo~Bo!" Pidgey chirped excitedly, flapping his wings triumphantly.
Robert smirked. "You did a good job. Lured them straight into a fight, huh?"
Pidgey puffed up proudly.
"Alright, let's not waste time. We got what we came for. Now, let's get out of here before the Beedrills figure out where we are."
With their mission a success, Robert, Charmander, and Pidgey quickly left the area, heading toward their next adventure.
