Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The First Pokémon - Charmander!

"Come out, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur!"

After arriving at the room where the three Pokémon were kept, Professor Oak picked up the three red-and-white Poké Balls from the table and threw them toward the open space in front of him.

Buzz!

In an instant, three flashes of red light illuminated the room, and three small, adorable Pokémon appeared before Robert and Professor Oak.

These were the three starter Pokémon of the Kanto region: Charmander, the Fire-type; Squirtle, the Water-type; and Bulbasaur, the Grass-type.

"Wow!"

"Jenny!"

"Seed!"

The three little Pokémon, upon appearing, immediately noticed Robert standing before them. They seemed to realize that this trainer might soon choose one of them, and their eyes sparkled with hope and excitement.

Each one gazed up at Robert with large, eager eyes, as if silently pleading to be chosen. Their tiny bodies quivered slightly with anticipation, and the cuteness of the moment touched Robert's heart deeply. Although he had seen Pokémon before, witnessing such an endearing sight made even a strong-willed person feel the urge to reach out and pat their heads.

Professor Oak chuckled at the heartwarming scene and turned to Robert. "Alright, Robert, these are the three Pokémon available for you to choose from. I'm sure you're already familiar with them, so I won't go into a long introduction. Have you made your decision?"

Robert took a deep breath, his excitement barely contained. He had already decided on his choice before coming here, so he didn't hesitate. "Yes, Professor Oak. I've made up my mind. I'll choose Charmander!"

The moment the words left his mouth, Charmander jumped up in pure joy! It let out an excited cry, raised its head, and released a small ember from its mouth before running in circles around Robert. It was clear the little Fire-type was overjoyed.

"Wow, wow, wow!"

On the other hand, Squirtle and Bulbasaur, who were not chosen, lowered their heads and let out small disappointed sounds.

"Jenny..."

"Seed..."

Robert noticed their reactions and immediately knelt down to comfort them. "Hey, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, don't be sad. It's not that you aren't amazing. I just made up my mind long ago to choose a Fire-type Pokémon. But don't worry—other trainers will come soon, and you'll both find great partners."

Hearing Robert's kind words, Squirtle and Bulbasaur perked up. Their lost expressions gradually faded, replaced by renewed enthusiasm. They seemed to understand that they were not abandoned; they were simply waiting for the right trainer.

"Jenny, Jenny!"

"Seeds, seeds!"

Professor Oak smiled warmly. "What a touching scene. Robert, I have no doubt that you'll become a great Pokémon Trainer."

Robert scratched his head sheepishly. "Thank you, Professor Oak. I'll do my best!"

The professor nodded and walked over to the table. "Since you've chosen Charmander, here are some essential items for your journey." He handed Robert a Pokédex, six empty Poké Balls, and Charmander's Poké Ball. "These will be very useful."

Robert took them gratefully. "Thank you, Professor Oak. I really appreciate it."

As he placed the Poké Balls into his bag, a thought suddenly came to him. He hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "Professor Oak, could I ask you for another favor?"

Oak raised an eyebrow. "A favor? What kind of favor?"

"It's nothing major," Robert said quickly. "I was wondering if you could upgrade my Pokédex to include Pokémon from other regions. Also, could you set up a system so that when my team is full, my extra Pokémon are teleported back to my villa instead of the Pokémon Storage System?"

Professor Oak rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Upgrading your Pokédex is simple enough. And as for redirecting your extra Pokémon, that's also a minor adjustment. Give me a few minutes."

"Thank you so much!" Robert said, relieved.

"No problem at all," Oak replied as he took Robert's Pokédex and walked over to his computer. He began typing swiftly on the keyboard, his experienced fingers moving with precision. Though he was curious about why Robert wanted this particular modification, he knew about Robert's family background and figured it wasn't an unreasonable request.

Meanwhile, Robert knelt beside Charmander, gently rubbing its head. "We're going to be great partners, Charmander. Let's do our best together!"

Charmander purred happily and nuzzled against Robert's arm. Its tail flame burned brightly, reflecting its excitement.

A few minutes later, Professor Oak returned with the upgraded Pokédex. "Alright, Robert, your Pokédex now includes data for Pokémon from the Kanto, Johto, and Orange Islands regions. Unfortunately, I don't have information on Pokémon from other regions. If you want a further upgrade, you'll have to visit a Professor in another region."

Robert took the Pokédex with a grateful smile. "That's more than enough. Thank you again, Professor Oak. And what about the Pokémon teleportation?"

"That's been taken care of too," Oak confirmed. "When your team reaches its limit, your extra Pokémon will automatically be sent to your villa instead of the usual storage system."

Robert's eyes lit up. "That's perfect! I really appreciate your help."

Professor Oak chuckled. "It's no trouble at all. I enjoy helping young trainers like you get started on their journeys."

Robert bowed slightly in gratitude. "I won't take up more of your time, Professor Oak. I'll be heading out now. Please give my regards to the trainers coming after me."

"Of course," Oak said warmly. "I wish you a safe journey, a bright future, and the chance to find strong and loyal partners."

Robert nodded firmly. "Thank you, Professor Oak. Goodbye!"

With that, Robert turned and walked out of the lab, Charmander trotting happily beside him. Instead of returning Charmander to its Poké Ball, Robert chose to let it walk freely by his side. He wanted to start training and strengthening their bond right away.

As they made their way toward Viridian Forest, Robert clenched his fist with determination. His adventure as a Pokémon Trainer had officially begun!
