Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Professor Oak!

"Master, today's breakfast includes fried eggs made from Hoothoot eggs, high-quality bacon, premium sausages, and a glass of fresh Miltank milk," Uncle Fu announced, introducing the meal laid out before Robert.

"Looks good," Robert remarked, picking up his knife and fork. He sliced a small piece, placed it in his mouth, and chewed thoughtfully. After washing it down with a sip of Miltank milk, he nodded approvingly.

Being from a wealthy family, Robert had been eating such luxurious breakfasts since he was old enough to eat on his own. Though the menu hardly ever changed, he still enjoyed it every morning.

"By the way, Uncle Fu, are my parents here, or have they not returned yet?" Robert asked after taking a few more bites.

"No, Master. The Lord and Madam originally planned to return and see you off, but the company and their research have reached a critical point, so..."

"I understand. It's alright. They've been busy for as long as I can remember, and I'm not the type to be spoiled by their presence," Robert interrupted with a calm expression.

Since childhood, Robert had grown accustomed to his parents' absence. He rarely saw them unless it was a major holiday, so their frequent absence no longer surprised him. His question had been more of a reflex than a genuine expectation.

"Very well, Master."

As Robert ate, he continued chatting casually with Uncle Fu. Time passed, and after about half an hour, Robert finished his meal. Without needing instructions, the two maids, Xiaotao and her assistant, swiftly cleared the table and carried the dishes to the kitchen.

"Breakfast was excellent, as always," Robert said, wiping his hands and mouth with a napkin. He then stood up, grabbed his backpack, and slung it over his shoulder. "Uncle Fu, I'm heading to Professor Oak's Laboratory in Pallet Town to pick up my starter Pokémon."

"Master, are you sure you don't want me to drive you there?" Uncle Fu asked, following Robert towards the entrance.

"No need. You know I prefer walking. Besides, the lab isn't far, and you don't have to worry about my safety."

"Alright then, Master. Please be careful on your way. If anything happens, call me immediately, and I will rush over."

"I will. Don't worry, Uncle Fu. Go back inside now," Robert said, waving a hand dismissively as he strolled leisurely down the path towards Pallet Town, hands in his pockets.

His destination: Professor Oak's Laboratory.

---

Time passed quickly as Robert walked through Pallet Town's familiar streets. After about half an hour, he arrived at the well-known residence of the world-famous Pokémon researcher—Professor Samuel Oak.

Knock, knock.

"Professor Oak, are you in?" Robert called, rapping gently on the door. "It's Robert, here to pick up my starter Pokémon. May I come in?"

Creak.

The door slowly opened, revealing a familiar, kind-looking face.

"Oh? If it isn't young Robert from the Zifu Researcher family! Come on in," an elderly yet energetic voice replied.

"Thank you, Professor Oak," Robert said, stepping inside.

The moment he entered, he was greeted by the sight of a middle-aged man in his fifties. Though his hair had turned gray, he still carried himself with vigor. He was dressed in a white lab coat over a red shirt and looked at Robert with warm eyes.

This was Professor Samuel Oak, the esteemed Pokémon researcher of Kanto.

Although he appeared middle-aged, Professor Oak was a legend in the Pokémon world. He had contributed significantly to Pokémon research, co-creating the Pokémon Atlas and winning the first-ever Pokémon League competition. He had been abducted and fought against evil organizations multiple times, making him not just a scholar but also a man of action. Most people knew him as Gary Oak's grandfather and the mentor of numerous Pokémon trainers, including the infamous Ash Ketchum.

"Good morning, Professor Oak," Robert greeted politely.

"Good morning to you too, Robert. It's been a while since we last met. You're here for your first Pokémon, correct?" Oak asked with a smile.

"Yes, Professor Oak. Can I receive mine now, or do I need to wait for the others?" Robert inquired.

Starter Pokémon were distributed to novice trainers each year, typically consisting of the classic Kanto trio: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. However, not just anyone could receive them.

To qualify, a trainer's family had to pay an annual fee of 10,000 Pokémon Coins to the Pokémon League for ten years. Only then could they claim a Pokémon from the nearest laboratory or Pokémon Center when they were ready to begin their journey.

For those who didn't meet the payment requirement, the only options were catching Pokémon in the wild or obtaining one through other means.

Robert was aware of this year's roster. Aside from Ash and Gary, there was another trainer named Blue, meaning four trainers had to compete for three Pokémon. If he had to wait, he risked missing out.

Moreover, the mystery surrounding Ash's Pikachu had always puzzled him. Was it a backup Pokémon prepared by Professor Oak, or had it been brought in under special circumstances?

"No need to wait. If you're ready, you can choose first," Professor Oak replied. "We don't require all trainers to arrive simultaneously. Whoever gets here first gets to pick first."

Robert's lips curled into a slight smile. "Thank you, Professor Oak."

"You're welcome," Oak said. "Now, follow me. I'll introduce you to the Pokémon available today—the three starters from the Kanto region."

Robert nodded and followed Professor Oak deeper into the laboratory, eager to meet his first Pokémon.
