Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Explosion Incident!

"Hello, you must be Officer Jenny, right? Is there anything I can help you with?" Robert asked hurriedly, his curiosity piqued by the unexpected encounter.

"Hello, sir. There have been a lot of thefts and robberies in Viridian City recently. Additionally, there was an explosion and theft at the Pokémon Center last night. Due to these incidents, security in Viridian City has been tightened. Please cooperate and show me your ID. I apologize for any inconvenience," Officer Jenny said formally, saluting him as she spoke.

"An explosion and theft at the Pokémon Center?" Robert's mind immediately recalled the events of the original story. If he was right, this must have been caused by Team Rocket's trio—Jessie, James, and Meowth. They had likely stolen Pokémon from the center, and the explosion was probably the result of Pikachu's powerful Thunderbolt.

James' Koffing had likely released a smokescreen or gas attack, which Pikachu's electricity ignited, causing the explosion.

Realizing this, Robert nodded slightly, grateful that he hadn't followed Ash to Viridian City. Otherwise, he might have gotten caught up in that troublesome battle.

Indeed, in Robert's eyes, dealing with Team Rocket was nothing more than a hassle. He knew their strength was limited, and while he could defeat them easily, he didn't want to be constantly targeted by them. It was better to let Ash keep them occupied.

"Alright, Officer Jenny," Robert responded calmly, reaching into his pocket and retrieving his Pokédex, which served as an identification card for trainers.

Because Robert was still a minor, he didn't have a standard ID card. Instead, in this world, a Pokémon trainer's Pokédex functioned as their official identification. Other professions had their respective documents, such as Pokémon Breeder Certificates or Researcher Licenses.

Officer Jenny took the Pokédex and pressed a button. A moment later, a familiar voice emerged from the device. It was none other than Professor Oak's pre-recorded message:

"This Pokédex has been issued to the rookie trainer Robert from Pallet Town. Come on, Pokémon Trainer! Also, this Pokédex cannot be reissued if lost, so please take good care of it. Message from Professor Oak of Pallet Town."

Jenny raised an eyebrow in surprise. "I didn't expect you to be another rookie trainer from Pallet Town. You're the fourth one to arrive in Viridian City. Among them, a trainer named Ash performed a great deed last night—he helped save the Pokémon from the Pokémon Center."

Robert smiled but was not surprised. He had already guessed as much. "That's amazing. I'm glad to hear that. By the way, Officer Jenny, will I be able to stay at the Pokémon Center tonight?"

Jenny nodded. "Yes, despite the explosion, repairs have been underway all day. The Pokémon Center is functional again and can provide accommodations."

Robert sighed in relief. "That's good to know. Officer Jenny, I'll take my leave now. I have to head to Pewter City tomorrow, so I won't keep you from your duties."

"It's no trouble at all," Jenny assured him before offering, "Do you want me to give you a ride?"

Robert shook his head with a polite smile. "No need, I'll walk over. Thank you, Officer Jenny."

After bidding her farewell, Robert made his way toward the Pokémon Center.

One Hour Later

Robert finally arrived at the Pokémon Center at a leisurely pace. As he approached, he took in the sight of a large, round building with green, red, and white coloring, resembling a giant Poké Ball. However, surrounding the structure were stacks of construction materials and newly installed pillars, clear signs of the extensive repairs being carried out. The explosion must have been quite severe—half of the center had been destroyed.

After surveying the damage, Robert proceeded toward a smaller temporary structure, which was serving as the temporary Pokémon Center. As soon as he stepped inside, he was greeted by a warm voice.

"Hello, welcome to the Pokémon Center. How may I assist you?"

A young woman with vibrant red hair, a white nurse's uniform, and a signature nurse's cap stood behind the counter, smiling at him.

"Good evening, Nurse Joy. I need accommodations and dinner. I'd also like to have my Pokémon restored. Would that be possible?" Robert placed Charmeleon's, Pidgey's, and Metapod's Poké Balls on the counter alongside his Pokédex.

Joy took the Pokédex and scanned it. Then, she handed the Poké Balls to a nearby Chansey, who was carrying a tray.

"Chansey!"

With a cheerful cry, Chansey carefully took the Poké Balls and carried them into the treatment room.

"Everything is set," Nurse Joy said with a smile. "Your room number is 012 in the temporary dormitory. Dinner will be served shortly. You can pick up your Pokémon after some time."

"Thank you, Nurse Joy." Robert nodded in appreciation.

Just as he was about to head toward the dining area, a thought crossed his mind. "Oh, by the way, Nurse Joy, are the telephone systems still functional? I need to make a call."

Joy gestured toward a row of public telephones. "Yes, they're working fine. You can use any of those."

"Great, thanks."

Robert made his way to one of the phones and dialed the number of the villa where his Uncle Fu was staying. The line rang for a few moments before a familiar voice answered.

"Hello? Robert, is that you?"

"Yeah, Uncle Fu. I just wanted to call and let you know I made it to Viridian City safely."

"That's a relief to hear. I saw the news about the explosion at the Pokémon Center. You weren't caught up in it, were you?"

Robert shook his head. "No, I arrived a day later, so I missed all the chaos. Everything's fine on my end."

"Good. Stay safe, Robert. Pokémon training is an adventure, but don't take unnecessary risks. And don't forget to eat properly."

Robert chuckled. "I won't, Uncle Fu. Thanks for checking in. I'll call again when I reach Pewter City."

"Alright, take care."

With that, the call ended. Robert let out a small sigh of relief. It was good to keep in touch with home, even if he was far away.

Just then, Chansey approached him with a tray of food.

"Chansey!"

"Oh, that must be my dinner. Thank you, Chansey."

Taking his tray, Robert settled into a seat in the dining area, ready to enjoy his meal before heading to bed. Tomorrow, he would set off for Pewter City, where his real challenge—the Pewter Gym Battle—awaited him.
