Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Unlocking Achievements Again!
"Has his strength only increased to the Elite Elementary level? He also learned two new moves—one status skill and one melee fire skill."
After checking Charmeleon's attribute panel, Robert was a little surprised. He hadn't expected that after evolving, Charmeleon's individual values would increase by several points, directly pushing it to 3V. This was truly an unexpected bonus.
"If I remember correctly, individual values in the game are fixed and cannot be improved unless special items like berries are used. But now, in reality..."
Robert smirked, feeling as if he had just discovered a loophole in the system. "I was originally planning to buy some items to boost individual values for Charmander and Pidgey, but if their values can naturally increase with evolution, then I might hold off until they reach their final forms."
The thought that Charmeleon's values might rise again when it evolved into Charizard filled Robert with excitement.
"Um... congratulations on your Charmander evolving into Charmeleon. Now that the battle is over, I'll take my leave first." The Bug Catcher standing beside him suddenly spoke, snapping Robert out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, thanks. See you!"
After bidding farewell to the Bug Catcher, Robert was about to approach his newly evolved Charmeleon when the system's voice suddenly rang in his mind:
Ding! Congratulations, Host, for unlocking a new achievement: Defeat a Bug Catcher. Reward: Poké Ball ×1.
Ding! Congratulations, Host, for unlocking a new achievement: Defeat a Normal-type Pokémon. Reward: Normal Energy Cube ×1.
Ding! Congratulations, Host, for unlocking a new achievement: Pokémon's Second Evolution. Reward: Skill Disc (Random) ×1.
"Huh? Three new achievements at once? This is definitely a double dose of good luck!"
Robert's eyes gleamed with excitement as he looked at the virtual panel. He wasn't entirely shocked—he had always known the system had an achievement function—but he was definitely pleased. Free rewards were always welcome, and considering he didn't have to spend any points to earn them, he felt like he was on a winning streak.
"Charmeleon, well done!"
"Roooaaar!" Charmeleon let out a triumphant growl, clearly enjoying the praise. Its body radiated newfound strength, and its tail flame burned even brighter.
Understanding its intent, Robert reached out and patted Charmeleon's head. "You fought well. I'm proud of you."
After a brief moment of bonding, Robert decided it was time to put Charmeleon back in its Poké Ball. While he had previously enjoyed having Charmander walk alongside him, Charmeleon's increased size made that a bit impractical.
With his Pokémon safely stored, Robert pulled up the system-provided map and oriented himself toward Viridian City's Pokémon Center.
Free Lodging at the Pokémon Center
"Why not stay at a hotel?" he mused aloud. "Simple—the Pokémon Center offers free food, lodging, and Pokémon healing for rookie trainers."
Trainers with an official Pokédex were entitled to three years of free services. After that period, they'd have to pay for accommodations and meals. While the Pokémon Center's facilities were more basic compared to a hotel, the cost-saving benefits were unbeatable.
More importantly, the biggest advantage was free Pokémon healing. Potions and healing sprays weren't cheap, and for trainers who weren't wealthy, prioritizing resources for Pokémon training rather than medicine was the smarter move.
Following the map, Robert walked toward the Pokémon Center. However, just as he stepped into Viridian City, a dazzling light shot out from the distance, forcing him to shield his eyes.
"What the—?"
Before he could process what was happening, the bright light drew closer. Within moments, he saw a motorcycle speeding toward him. It screeched to a stop right in front of him, kicking up dust.
A female officer with deep blue hair, wearing a neatly pressed police uniform, dismounted the bike and approached him.
"Officer Jenny... one of the specialties of the Pokémon world," Robert muttered under his breath. "Brock would definitely call this the work of destiny."
He had to admit, seeing Officer Jenny in person was quite an experience. The uniform, the confident stance—everything about her screamed authority. But he couldn't shake the question in his mind: Why did she stop me?
In the original Pokémon timeline, he had already left Pallet Town a day earlier, meaning he hadn't traveled with Ash and Pikachu. So why is Jenny here?
Robert scratched his head. "Is she mistaking me for someone else?"
He also found himself marveling at the infamous Jenny family. Even though he had seen a few members of the Jenny clan before, he still found it impossible to distinguish between them.
"How does Brock do it?" Robert muttered. "He must have some sort of superpower."
Officer Jenny's Investigation
Officer Jenny crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. "You there! Trainer with the Pokédex. Are you new to Viridian City?"
Robert blinked. "Uh, yeah. Just arrived."
She studied him for a moment, then nodded. "We've had reports of suspicious activity in the area. Trainers carrying rare Pokémon are advised to be cautious. Have you encountered anything unusual?"
Robert shook his head. "Nope, just battled a Bug Catcher outside the city. Nothing strange."
Jenny seemed to consider his words before finally relaxing. "Alright. Stay alert, and if you see anything suspicious, report it to the Pokémon Center immediately."
"Got it. Thanks, Officer Jenny."
She gave him a firm nod before hopping back on her motorcycle. With a loud rev, she sped off, leaving Robert standing there, puzzled.
"Suspicious activity, huh?" he murmured. "Sounds like Team Rocket might be up to something."
He shrugged. Whatever the case, he'd keep an eye out. For now, his priority was getting to the Pokémon Center, healing his team, and preparing for the next challenge.
As he continued walking, he couldn't help but grin. With a newly evolved Charmeleon, fresh achievements unlocked, and an exciting journey ahead, things were just getting started.
