"An insect catcher… but his Pokémon isn't even a Bug-type?" Robert muttered, looking at the purple rodent before him. His system's scan completed, displaying an attribute panel only he could see.
Though Robert wasn't an expert on insect catchers, he knew that they typically had only two kinds of Pokémon: either Bug-types or common Pokémon like Rattata that were found everywhere.
"Since both sides are ready, let the battle begin! Rattata, use Tackle!" the insect catcher ordered, pointing at Charmander.
"Ratta!"
Rattata's body glowed slightly as it launched itself forward at full speed, heading straight for Charmander.
"Charmander, dodge and counter with Ember!" Robert commanded.
"Char!"
Charmander leaped to the side, skillfully evading Rattata's attack. As soon as it landed, it exhaled a small burst of fire toward the Normal-type Pokémon.
"Ratta!"
Caught off guard, Rattata was hit directly by the Ember, letting out a pained squeak as it skidded back, smoke rising from its fur.
"Damn, it dodged so easily… Alright, Rattata! Use Quick Attack!" the insect catcher called out.
Robert, however, remained calm. "Charmander, use Roar to interrupt it, then go in with Scratch!"
"Char!"
Charmander inhaled deeply before letting out a loud, intimidating roar. The sudden noise startled Rattata, making it slow down instinctively. Taking advantage of the hesitation, Charmander rushed forward, claws glowing white, and slashed at Rattata's side, sending it tumbling across the battlefield.
"Ratta!"
The insect catcher gritted his teeth, realizing how easily Robert had countered his strategy. Rattata had already taken two hits, and one more could knock it out.
"Alright, let's end this. Charmander, use Flamethrower!" Robert commanded confidently.
Charmander puffed out its chest and unleashed a powerful stream of flames toward its opponent.
"Rattata, dodge!" the insect catcher cried desperately.
But it was too late.
The flames engulfed Rattata, and the small rodent let out a final, weak cry before collapsing onto the ground, completely knocked out.
"Ratta…"
Charmander stood triumphantly, placing its small claws on its hips. As it basked in its victory, a soft white glow began to surround its body.
"Is this… evolution?" Robert mused, watching the transformation unfold.
"It's actually evolving?" the insect catcher gasped in shock.
Robert smirked. "Charmander had already been close to evolving. With all that training and this battle, it finally reached the threshold."
"Wow, I guess I didn't lose unfairly after all," the insect catcher admitted, sighing. He reached into his pocket and handed over 200 Pokémon Coins. "Here's the prize for winning."
"Thanks," Robert said, taking the money without hesitation. He then turned his full attention back to his Pokémon.
The white light surrounding Charmander grew even brighter, completely enveloping its small frame. A few moments later, its shape began to change. Its body became larger, the flame on its tail burned more intensely, and a small horn-like bump formed on its head. When the glow faded, a new Pokémon stood in Charmander's place.

"Char!" Charmeleon let out a fierce roar, its confidence and power surging.
Robert grinned. "Looks like you've grown a lot stronger. Well done, Charmeleon!"
Charmeleon turned to its trainer, giving an approving nod before flicking its tail, sending a few sparks flying.
The insect catcher sighed. "Man, I didn't expect to lose this badly. That was impressive."
Robert chuckled. "It was a good battle. You gave it your best shot."
The insect catcher nodded before retrieving Rattata's Poké Ball. "I should get Rattata to a Pokémon Center. Maybe we'll have a rematch one day."
"Looking forward to it," Robert replied, watching as the bug catcher walked away.
Turning to Charmeleon, Robert smirked. "Alright, let's keep moving. We have a long journey ahead."
With Charmeleon by his side, Robert resumed his trek towards the next challenge that awaited him on his Pokémon adventure.
