The information about the egg appeared in Jiang Yu's mind.
Pokémon: [Larvesta]
Type: [Bug/Fire]
Gender: [♀]
Ability: [Flame Body]

Status: [Near Death]
Level: [None]

Description: [This is an egg that is about to reach the end of its life. There are two foreign forces clashing inside it, along with its original power. These conflicting forces are tearing apart its already weak body, and the original power keeping it alive is like a candle flickering in the wind.]
The evolved form of Larvesta, Volcarona, is a legendary Bug-type Pokémon.
Legends say it was born from a cocoon engulfed in flames and once saved people and Pokémon from freezing.
Volcarona is a large moth Pokémon with blue eyes and a pair of red antennae wrapped around its cheeks. Its upper body is covered in thick, white fur, and it has a plump, black-and-light-blue abdomen. It has six fiery orange wings with black spots, giving it a majestic appearance.
With its Bug/Fire typing, it resists Bug, Fighting, Steel, Grass, Ice, and Fairy moves. It is only 2x weak to Flying and Water and 4x weak to Rock.
At the same time, Volcarona's base stats are exceptionally well-distributed. With high Speed, an incredible Special Attack, excellent Special Defense, and solid HP, it is destined to be a phenomenal special attacker.
When Jiang Yu saw the Potential section, he couldn't help but gasp.
Champion!!
Pokémon potential is categorized as Normal, Elite, Professional, Gym Leader, Elite Four, Champion, Master, and Legendary.
Legendaries are further divided into Lesser Legends (e.g., Latios, Zapdos) and True Legends (e.g., Arceus, Dialga).
Lesser Legends appear occasionally, but True Legends like Ho-Oh and Lugia have not been seen for thousands of years. Some have even faded into myth.
Among human trainers, Champion-level Pokémon are already considered top-tier, and Master-level Pokémon are practically unheard of in history.
A Pokémon with Champion-level potential is already near the peak of what a trainer could dream of having.
But… what's up with these inherited moves?!
This is ridiculous. Absolutely insane. Even a fully evolved Volcarona wouldn't naturally learn many of these moves.
Could this Larvesta have traveled through time and been reborn, just like Jiang Yu himself?
Still, despite the flashy move pool, most of these moves are unusable by Larvesta due to its current form. Many require wings to execute, which it doesn't have yet.
Honestly, Jiang Yu was tempted. Volcarona was one of his favorite Pokémon in his past life, and one of his original six when he first started playing Pokémon. On top of that, its potential was off the charts.
But something about this egg felt off.
Status: Near Death?
Jiang Yu hesitated. This egg wouldn't be here without a reason. Most likely, the breeding center placed it here because they couldn't save it.
If a professional facility couldn't revive it, how could a high school student?
Even if he relied on the system, a Pokémon with this kind of potential and rarity was far beyond what he could afford to take care of.
Not to mention, Larvesta's evolution line is infamous for its late evolution. It needs to reach level 59 before it can become Volcarona.
That's like raising a Ralts without evolving it until level 59—by the time it evolves into Gardevoir, it's practically a grandma.
Choosing this egg means nurturing a Pokémon in its weakest form all the way to Elite level. This is why Volcarona is so rare and powerful—because the struggle to reach its full potential is immense.
Should I choose it… or not?
Both choices seemed like traps waiting to be sprung.
Jiang Yu stared at the egg, feeling as if he could hear the newborn's cries—its desperate plea for life.
(…Help.)
(Save me…)
Jiang Yu's eyes snapped open in shock.
"What was that?!"
(Help me.)
At that moment, Jiang Yu felt something he never had in his past life.
This wasn't just a line of game data.
This was a living, breathing soul—a unique miracle of life.
"Wait for me… I will save you."
Without hesitation, he sprinted out of the room.
---
A Higher Being Watches
As Jiang Yu ran out of the Bug-Type Room, an immense presence turned its gaze toward the egg.
---
Claiming the Egg
Soon, Jiang Yu returned with a staff member.
"You placed this egg here, right?" Jiang Yu asked.
"Yes, this is a rare Pokémon egg—a Larvesta. However, due to certain… issues, we placed it here, hoping that a lucky trainer might choose it—"
"I'll take it," Jiang Yu interrupted.
The staff blinked in shock. He never expected a student to actually pick the problem egg so decisively.
Still, he nodded and said, "Alright, but we'll need to register it first. After that, you'll receive a free incubator."
After registering, Jiang Yu rushed to pick up the incubator.
---
Teacher's Concern
Upon hearing the news, the homeroom teacher hurried over.
"Jiang Yu, are you sure about choosing this problematic egg?" he asked. "You'd better think carefully. Your starter Pokémon is crucial to your future as a trainer."
"I'm sure," Jiang Yu answered firmly.
From the corner of his eye, the teacher thought he saw the egg tremble slightly.
"Ah… there goes another promising student's future."
---
Reactions from Classmates
Jiang Yu ignored the stares and whispers around him. Holding the incubator tightly, he rushed out of the Pokémon Training Center.
"Hah, this guy must be an idiot."
"Haha, he really thinks he's the main character."
"Tsk tsk tsk… he'll regret it soon enough."
"How can you mock him like that?"
"I'm just being honest! He probably thinks it's like playing house—hahahaha!"
"HAHAHAHA!"

Seeking Help
When Jiang Yu burst into his home, Xia Shuhua didn't even turn around.
"Back so soon?" she asked casually.
Jiang Yu threw off his shoes and hurried over.
"Mom! Mom! Please, help! Save this child!"
Xia Shuhua turned around, saw the egg, and a huge question mark slowly formed in her mind.
She frowned, examining the egg closely.
"This egg…" she hesitated, glancing at Jiang Yu.
"This is my Pokémon," Jiang Yu said urgently. "But the egg is in critical condition. Mom, can you save it?"
"...It's worse than just critical." Xia Shuhua hesitated. "Even if it hatches, I suspect…"
"Are you sure you want to save it?"
"I'm sure."
"Even if it means giving up your chance to receive a Pokémon from me?"
"I'm sure."
"This child… was once the sun itself. And now, it has never even seen the light. That's too cruel."
Xia Shuhua stared at her son, then suddenly smiled.
"My son has grown up."
"Pack your things. We're going to the capital."
"Beijing? But isn't your research institute in Shanghai?"
"I have a friend—a PhD in Pokémon Life Sciences. If she can't save it, then no one in the country can."
