Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: A Significant Gain

"I'll challenge you frequently until I win at least once," Moka declared before leaving. Clearly, he was not content with this defeat, especially losing to someone who had previously bested him.

"I'll be waiting," Kalia replied with a smile. Defeating a former conqueror significantly boosted her confidence, and this victory on the sixth floor held great significance.

Upon hearing that Moka intended to challenge them often, Lian's eyes lit up momentarily before dimming again. If only he could control the combat ratings, it would be incredibly advantageous; having Moka challenge daily could potentially earn him over two thousand Combat Points each time.

Lian felt optimistic about his combat rating from today's battle, but the exact outcome would be revealed during the evening settlement. He anticipated another significant increase in his Energy Control Rating.

Currently, Lian aimed primarily to enhance his Fire-type Energy Control Rating. As fire was his primary element, only Fire-type moves allowed him to unleash their maximum potential.

Today's combination of Flamethrower and Dragon Rage undoubtedly played a crucial role. In a typical battle, if Lian had chosen to consecutively use Flamethrower twice, without considering Kalia's command time, just waiting for fire energy recovery alone would have allowed Umbreon ample opportunity to close the distance with Quick Attack and execute Bite.

However, during today's fight, Lian's rapid burst of move combinations within seconds inflicted severe damage on Umbreon, forcing it into a Sleep state and significantly reducing its chances to counterattack.

This exemplifies the true power of move combinations, which most Pokemon cannot achieve. It requires not only high Energy Control but also exceptional proficiency in executing these moves seamlessly.

Kalia took her Pokemon to the adjacent healing room to treat Grovyle and Charmeleon. Afterwards, she returned to Battlefield 3, awaiting their next opponent.

In the evening, Kalia returned to her room at the library. After resting briefly and having dinner, she released three Pokemon in the open space, commencing their training for the day.

Kalia temporarily paused her reading and studying, as she had covered enough material. She had already registered a few days ago, with the beginner trainer assessment scheduled in half a month. By then, she would be ready to leave the Battle Tower just in time for the exam.

Upon passing the assessment and obtaining her beginner trainer certification, she could promptly set off for the Ruby Pokémon Academy, with her itinerary all planned out.

The nighttime was limited, so Kalia focused on move practice for her Pokemon. Among them, Vulpix and Grovyle still showed significant lack of proficiency in their moves.

Grovyle was progressing well, having started practice early; it was expected to achieve notable proficiency soon. However, Vulpix lagged behind due to its poor foundation, never having received any prior training before joining Kalia's team.

Mastering move combinations would likely take Grovyle considerable time, perhaps not until its evolution into Sceptile. Developing proficiency in moves inherently requires extensive practice; not every Pokemon possesses Charmeleon's exceptional natural talent for mastering techniques.

On the open field,

Lian appeared to be practicing Flamethrower, and indeed he was, but his focus lay on controlling variations of the move. He aimed to make the flames spin, concentrating their power more effectively and unleashing maximum force with each blast.

With each successive Flamethrower release, Lian attempted to alter the shape of the flames using his control power. Unfortunately, he could only achieve minor changes, indicating that his mastery over fire energy was still insufficient.

Nevertheless, Lian persisted in his training. While no immediate progress was visible, even long-term practice...seemed equally inconspicuous, as by then, he would have already boosted his control through Combat Points.

In the evening, within the system space.

Rows of combat data floated in mid-air, clearly displayed for review. Lian was highly satisfied with today's combat rating; it would be fantastic if he could consistently achieve such high scores every day.

His level had not yet increased, as progression seemed to slow down after reaching Level 25. Lian suspected this might be due to his overall base stats surpassing five hundred; currently, they stood at 555 precisely.

It is likely that because Lian's base stats are so high, encountering opponents with similar or slightly higher base stats (above five hundred) now results in slower leveling progress.

Combat Rating: A+

Total Difference Reward: 3,756

Total Combat Value: 4,067

Seeing his Total Combat Value surpassing 4,000, Lian's grin stretched wide across his face. This battle alone rewarded him with over three thousand Combat Points, with a significant portion coming from Umbreon.

It was truly a massive gain.

Umbreon was at level 31, and Honchkrow reached level 35, both exceptionally high levels. Without enhancing his overall abilities and mastering move combinations, defeating these two Pokemon would have been much more challenging.

With another four thousand Combat Points, it was time to boost his strength further. Naturally, Lian focused on improving his Energy Control Ratings.

Currently, his Rock Resistance stood at 1.81. He still had Charti Berry-made energy cubes left, needing just 0.01 more before he could directly enhance it using Combat Points, likely within the next couple of days.

During this period, he hadn't learned any new moves, leaving little else to upgrade immediately. Deciding against increasing ability values for now, Lian aimed to first raise his Fire-type Energy Control Rating to 20% and Dragon-type Energy Control Rating to 10%.

Without delay, Lian swiftly tapped on Fire-type Energy Control Rating and began upgrading it. At a cost of 500 Combat Points per increment, he spent a total of 2500 Combat Points to reach 20%. After the upgrade, Lian suddenly felt as if he could perceive the surrounding fire energy.

It wasn't just his imagination!

He indeed could see the Fire-type energy around him, with red strands intertwining chaotically. Although aware that this was merely a simulated representation within system space, it became evident that once the Energy Control Rating reached a certain level, one could clearly visualize the surrounding elemental energies.

Lian felt a surge of anticipation, but increasing the Fire-type Energy Control Rating significantly would likely be challenging; he'd have to take it step by step.

Next, he boosted the Dragon-type Energy Control Rating to 10%, spending another 250 Combat Points. This made him suspect that beyond 20%, each subsequent percentage increase might also double in cost.

How terrifying!

Following this pattern, wouldn't reaching the final few percent require tens of thousands of points? It seemed overwhelmingly daunting.

Lian stopped pondering further, not daring to think about such vast numbers. Instead, he decided to progress gradually—one day at a time. With daily combat ratings adding up, accumulating even hundreds of thousands of Combat Points was achievable over time.

Currently, Lian had 1,067 Combat Points and felt there wasn't much else to improve upon. He even considered it not worth bothering with enhancing his control over normal-type energy.

Through actual combat experience, he realized that the combination of Smokescreen and Will-O-Wisp rarely found an opportunity to be utilized effectively. However, the combo of Flamethrower and Dragon Rage proved devastating; even if the opponent didn't immediately lose their fighting capability, they were significantly weakened.

Even Umbreon, known for its defensive prowess, struggled against Lian's move combinations, let alone other Pokemon. Throughout today's battles, he lost only two or three times without ever needing to use Smokescreen and Will-O-Wisp.

"Let's save them for now." Lian decided to accumulate more Combat Points first, planning to enhance his Rock Resistance in a few days.

Next, utilizing his exceptional Energy Control Rating, he began practicing precise manipulation of energy. With a Control Rating above 20%, within the system space, Lian felt like a true deity of flames, commanding Fire-type energy effortlessly.

He vaguely sensed that legendary Pokemon might achieve their extraordinary power by reaching exceptionally high levels of Energy Control Rating, surpassing typical Pokemon capabilities.
