Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Victory

"Go, Honchkrow."

Honchkrow had evolved from Murkrow using a Dusk Stone, possessing both Flying and Dark typing attributes, making it incredibly powerful.

With a menacing appearance, Honchkrow differed from Murkrow by having a large hat-like crest on its head, along with broader wings.

Lian eyed Honchkrow; this was the Pokemon that defeated him last time. Under the Paralysis status, he couldn't fully utilize his strength.

During the previous battle against Moka, he had already spent his combat rating points, so losing then wasn't significant. However, this time, defeat was not an option.

Losing now would be a massive setback, especially after managing to use Umbreon's Rest move multiple times. Moreover, Honchkrow is known for relatively weak defenses but exceptionally high Stamina base stat.

With a whopping 100 base Stamina, if this Honchkrow were at a higher level, achieving over 1,000 Stamina wouldn't be an issue. Yet, its Special Defense remains low.

This Pokemon is perfect for grinding combat rating. Although Honchkrow has decent offensive capabilities, its speed doesn't match Lian's. Crucially, Honchkrow excels in close-range physical attacks, initially only learning special attack moves through Move Disks early on.

As soon as Honchkrow emerged, Lian charged forward. Moka cleverly threw the Poké Ball towards a distant area, causing Honchkrow to fly up immediately upon release. This forced it to close the gap, otherwise its Flamethrower range wouldn't reach.

By doing so, he bought time for Honchkrow, avoiding an immediate confrontation with Flamethrower.

"Honchkrow, use Sucker Punch!" Moka shouted. Sucker Punch shares similarities with Quick Attack; during battle, if an opponent initiates an offensive move, this skill grants the user a sudden speed boost, allowing them to strike unexpectedly while the opponent is executing their attack.

However, if the opponent doesn't attempt an offensive move and remains cautious, the speed enhancement of Sucker Punch does not activate.

At that moment, Lian had already unleashed Flamethrower. Although he heard Moka's command, he couldn't halt the ongoing attack.

Taking advantage of Lian releasing his move, Honchkrow used Sucker Punch. Similar to Quick Attack, it gained a speed boost, swiftly flying towards Lian.

Sucker Punch is a dark-type attacking move, combined with Honchkrow's high base attack stat of 125, getting hit by this move would not be pleasant, although not necessarily incapacitating.

A scorching Flamethrower shot forth directly towards Honchkrow. Unexpectedly, utilizing the speed boost from Sucker Punch, Honchkrow skillfully evaded the incoming flames.

Dodging attacks in mid-air is generally easier than on the ground, as movement can occur in any direction freely.

After avoiding the Flamethrower, Honchkrow swiftly charged at Lian with immense speed.

This was one of the rare instances where Lian's Flamethrower missed its target. As Honchkrow rapidly approached, Lian decisively unleashed his explosive speed, managing to create distance just before it reached him.

He couldn't let Honchkrow land a successful Sucker Punch; Grovyle had already been defeated, and he couldn't afford to lose much more stamina. Fortunately, his Explosive Power had recovered, making this the perfect moment to utilize it.

Honchkrow relentlessly pursued with Sucker Punches, yet failed to touch Lian, even falling further behind.

Soon, the speed boost from Sucker Punch dissipated, and ultimately, Honchkrow still couldn't strike Lian. It flapped its wings, flying above him to reposition for another attack.

Phew.

Lian exhaled deeply, grateful that his burst of speed allowed him to evade Honchkrow's Sucker Punch maneuver. However, missing with Flamethrower was truly unfortunate.

Without hesitation, Lian unleashed Dragon Rage towards the Honchkrow above him. Although Flamethrower missed, the consumed energy couldn't be regained, so completing the move combination was crucial.

"Dodge it, Honchkrow!"

Honchkrow had barely stabilized its flight when it felt the shockwave from Dragon Rage. Moka's warning came too late as the impact sent Honchkrow flying away.

Moka observed Honchkrow being hit by the shockwave and realized that Charmeleon's move combination was exceptionally powerful, leaving no time for reaction. After using Flamethrower, it immediately followed with Dragon Rage, requiring no Trainer prompts.

"Great job, Charmeleon! Keep using Flamethrower!" Kalia praised and continued her command.

This battle was remarkably effortless for Kalia. Typically, she would need to shout various commands, but now, just one instruction allowed Charmeleon to swiftly execute its move combinations without further guidance. She only occasionally needed to provide hints based on the opponent's actions.

Most importantly, Charmeleon's performance was outstanding, seamlessly transitioning between moves, catching opponents completely off guard.

"Honchkrow, use Sucker Punch again." Moka could only rely on this move since other attacks couldn't keep up with Charmeleon's speed.

This Charmeleon was incredibly agile; whenever Honchkrow attempted to close the gap, it swiftly maintained distance without using any moves. Unless Honchkrow could match or surpass Charmeleon's speed, there was no way to catch up.

Lian refrained from using his moves, as he wasn't foolish enough to fall for the same trick twice. Earlier, Honchkrow had utilized Sucker Punch, and based on his knowledge, Honchkrow didn't have any other acceleration moves. This meant that by keeping a safe distance, Moka would be limited to using Sucker Punch with Honchkrow.

Without Lian employing Flamethrower, he closely monitored Honchkrow's movements, rendering even its Sucker Punch ineffective.

The key element of Sucker Punch is the surprise attack; without the element of surprise, it cannot trigger the move's additional effects, reducing it to merely a standard dark-type move with 70 power.

Lian rapidly increased the distance between them, then halted and unleashed Flamethrower. It was time to end this battle; having already taken one hit from Dragon Rage, Honchkrow couldn't withstand another Flamethrower blast.

Lian's confidence stemmed from the fact that Honchkrow's Special Defense was significantly weaker compared to Umbreon's. Even Umbreon required the Rest move to recover after enduring Lian's combo, so how could Honchkrow possibly withstand it?

"Honchkrow, dodge!"

The intense orange-red flames engulfed Honchkrow mid-air, but Moka's command came too late.

As the flames dissipated, the defeated Honchkrow plummeted from the sky, crashing onto the ground with black smoke rising from its body. Had it been exposed to the flames for just a bit longer, it might have turned into roasted crow.

Moka recalled Honchkrow, now only having his injured Umbreon left. His previously relaxed demeanor vanished entirely.

After Kalia pointed out the flaw in his prized technique, Moka couldn't risk using Rest again on Umbreon.

For him, winning or losing a battle was secondary; the well-being of his Pokemon took precedence. He realized that forcibly awakening them had significant long-term effects and could only be used sparingly, as frequent application would lead to severe consequences.

Moka sent out his Umbreon, but ultimately, Lian's Flamethrower prevailed, securing Kalia's victory in this battle.

"I lost, but it doesn't matter. It's just one battle. I'll continue getting stronger," Moka said nonchalantly, showing no signs of distress. "Looking forward to battling again in the future."
