Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Umbreon Evolution

Moka seemed unconcerned about Umbreon taking damage from the move and had no intention of switching it out. However, he changed his command, "Umbreon, use Quick Attack to close the gap with Grovyle, then employ Bite."

Moka appeared quite relaxed, indicating that he too had grown stronger during this period. He confidently believed he could easily defeat Kalia without much effort. In their previous battle, not a single one of his Pokemon lost its fighting capability, and even Umbreon hadn't revealed many of its secret moves.

Grovyle's speed was indeed impressive; after using Giga Drain, it swiftly darted away—a testament to Kalia's recent training efforts. With Grovyle's weak defense, it couldn't afford to take direct hits, so against close combat Pokemon, maintaining distance was crucial. After executing a move, Grovyle instinctively retreated, requiring no further commands.

As Grovyle ran, Umbreon altered its strategy, employing Quick Attack to rapidly chase after Grovyle.

With the speed boost provided by Quick Attack, Umbreon naturally moved faster than Grovyle. Although only a short burst, it was sufficient to catch up to Grovyle quickly.

"Grovyle, use Fury Cutter!"

Seeing Umbreon closing in with Quick Attack, Kalia instructed Grovyle to employ Fury Cutter.

Although not as potent as Giga Drain, Fury Cutter had some effectiveness against Dark-type Umbreon. Moreover, using Giga Drain at such close range was not ideal.

As Kalia issued her command, Umbreon had already collided with Grovyle, sending it stumbling backward.

Grovyle quickly regained its footing, eyeing Umbreon with determination. Upon hearing Kalia's order, it swiftly retaliated. The three leaves on its wrists sharpened instantly, and it leaped towards Umbreon for a cutting strike.

The sharp blades cleanly sliced through Umbreon's black fur, utilizing Bug-type energy to carve a significant swath.

"It's futile. For my Umbreon, Grovyle's moves are merely tickles," Moka shook his head confidently. His Umbreon had undergone specialized training, enhancing its inherently strong defensive capabilities even further. One can only imagine how formidable Umbreon's defense must have become after such rigorous conditioning.

As Grovyle unleashed its Fury Cutter move, Umbreon opened its mouth, revealing tiny sharp teeth, and lunged to bite at Grovyle.

At such close proximity, Kalia couldn't warn her Pokémon in time, and within the next moment, Grovyle was caught by the bite.

"Grovyle, break free from Umbreon and continue using Fury Cutter!" Deciding to engage in close combat, she figured they might as well commit fully. Even if Grovyle tried to create distance now, Umbreon would swiftly catch up with Quick Attack, making it more advantageous for a direct melee battle.

Fury Cutter grows stronger with each consecutive hit, potentially dealing significant damage to Umbreon eventually. However, maintaining the continuous strikes is crucial; any interruption renders it ineffective.

Moka seemed aware of this but appeared unconcerned. He had great confidence in Umbreon's defensive capabilities, undeterred even by repeated slashes.

"Umbreon, keep biting without letting go!" Moka commanded. The Bite move can continuously hold onto the opponent, causing ongoing damage through sustained clamping.

As Grovyle got bitten, it displayed a pained expression. Even though Umbreon's attack power was not high, this move targeted its type weakness, coupled with Grovyle's relatively weak defense, causing significant discomfort.

Grovyle continuously struggled but couldn't break free; Umbreon held on too tightly. Grovyle lacked sufficient physical strength and seemed almost helpless.

"Uh-oh, at this rate, Grovyle is bound to lose," Kalia expressed her concern, knowing that if Grovyle couldn't escape, there would be no way out.

Suddenly, Grovyle showed a determined gaze, lifted its arm, revealing three sharp leaf-like blades on its wrist, and forcefully slashed down towards Umbreon.

Although unable to escape, Grovyle could still execute moves since its arms were unaffected by the bite.

Shriiiip.

The Fury Cutter move accurately struck Umbreon; hitting from such close proximity was virtually guaranteed.

This time, the Fury Cutter finally elicited a painful expression from Umbreon, leaving a visible wound on its leg. However, it did not release its grip.

In the next moment, after executing its move, Grovyle collapsed like a deflated balloon, weakened and unable to continue battling.

It was evident that Umbreon's Bite move had inflicted significant harm and pain on Grovyle, surpassing its threshold, forcing it into unconsciousness.

"Grovyle, you've certainly improved, managing to release your move even under such pressure." Moka chuckled, his tone carrying a hint of mockery.

Kalia sighed; Grovyle had performed admirably, but without evolving into Sceptile, it was indeed somewhat weaker. She knew this was the norm, as she consistently pushed Grovyle to face stronger opponents. If not for Charmeleon reaching Two-Star Silver Rank, they might still be stuck on the third or fourth floors.

"Grovyle, return." Kalia recalled her Pokémon, relieved that it hadn't sustained severe injuries, merely succumbing to unbearable pain and falling unconscious.

Meanwhile, Umbreon also bore noticeable wounds from Grovyle's relentless attacks, including one Giga Drain and two Fury Cutter moves. Despite Umbreon's strong defense, it couldn't emerge completely unscathed.

"Send out your Charmeleon quickly now. I'm familiar with all your Pokemon, and there's no chance for victory in this battle," Moka confidently stated.

"Charmeleon, come out."

Kalia called out and tossed her Poké Ball.

Pop!

Lian voluntarily emerged from the ball, landing on the ground with his imposing tall and vibrant orange-red physique, clearly dominating over the black Umbreon's presence.

"Huh, is that your Charmeleon?" Moka expressed surprise upon seeing the robust Charmeleon emerge. It was significantly larger than before, almost as if it had grown by a full circle. He even wondered if Kalia had switched to a different Pokemon.

Lian glanced at Moka and then at the Umbreon, recalling their previous battle where he inadvertently got paralyzed—an utterly frustrating state—and subsequently took heavy damage from Honchkrow.

However, this time, he wouldn't make the same mistake. Knowing Umbreon's Ability, Synchronize, meant he just needed to avoid using moves that could induce abnormal status effects on Umbreon.

"Charmeleon, let's defeat our opponent together this time," Kalia said confidently. The current Charmeleon was no longer the same as before; she believed they could overcome this Umbreon.

Lian raised his hand, signaling readiness.

"Great, Charmeleon, use Flamethrower!"
