Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Entering the Sixth Floor
Battle Tower, Fifth Floor.
Upon entering the Battle Tower, Kalia arrived at the fifth floor and found Manager Gus waiting near the elevator entrance, clearly for her arrival.
With Kalia's impressive record of ten consecutive victories on this floor, the Battle Tower's evaluation system had determined her to be at the Two-Star Silver Rank level. This allowed her to progress to the sixth floor as its new floor guardian.
Manager Gus had informed Kalia about this two days ago. Yesterday's rest day was not only for Kalia to prepare with special training but also because Manager Gus wanted her to fully recharge before stepping onto the sixth floor, where she would face Trainers of the Two-Star Silver Rank caliber.
Although still short of becoming a mid-level Trainer, most at the Two-Star Silver Rank had already earned their fourth badge, significantly stronger than those on the fifth floor.
"Are you ready?" Manager Gus asked with a smile. Since Kalia entered the Battle Tower, he had closely observed her rapid progress over the past half-month, from barely managing to hold her own to achieving ten straight wins—a remarkable improvement.
Given Kalia's current strength, she was well-equipped to guard the sixth floor. Therefore, Manager Gus promptly offered her the opportunity to ascend, which she naturally accepted without hesitation.
"Ready," Kalia affirmed with determination, her eyes filled with fighting spirit. For her, entering the sixth floor represented a new challenge and symbolized reaching a higher level.
Although she occasionally encountered challengers descending from the sixth floor, most of them were not truly skilled enough to hold their ground there. Those who could firmly establish themselves on the sixth floor rarely descended easily; they were Trainers surpassing even Tanner's strength.
"If you're ready, let's head to the sixth floor." Manager Gus led Kalia into the elevator, pressed the button, and it smoothly ascended.
Ding.
The elevator doors opened.
Unlike the fifth floor, the sixth floor didn't appear significantly different at first glance, maintaining a similar environment all around.
"You'll still be at Arena 3. I'll take you there." Manager Gus guided Kalia to Arena 3. Unlike the fifth floor, the arena here was much larger, about the size of a basketball court, and instead of a simple flat surface, the ground was covered with a thick layer of sand.
"I'll arrange challengers for you now. Just do your best," Manager Gus said with a smile. During this period, Kalia had attracted numerous additional challengers to the fifth floor, many specifically targeting her.
Most importantly, Kalia held her own. Not only did she avoid consecutive defeats, but she achieved ten straight victories. Each challenge required spending Alliance Coins, generating significant revenue for the Battle Tower.
After Manager Gus left, Kalia patiently awaited her opponents. Honestly, stepping onto the sixth floor made her nervous; the adversaries here were far superior to those on the fifth floor.
Occasionally, challengers from the seventh floor would descend to test their skills, boasting overall strength equivalent to Silver Star Rank 3, with all their Pokémon at that level as well.
Soon, the gate opposite opened, and a tall figure emerged, entering the battlefield.
"Hm?"
"It's you."
Kalia was taken aback, not expecting such a formidable opponent in her first match on this floor. It was the same challenger she had faced previously on the fifth floor, resulting in her devastating defeat.
The challenger's name was Moka, known for his expertise with Dark-type Pokémon. During their last encounter, he used Umbreon and Honchkrow, and it was likely he would employ them again this time.
"I didn't expect to meet you here. Impressive, reaching the sixth floor so quickly."
Moka also seemed surprised to encounter Kalia. Upon hearing about the new sixth-floor guardian, he eagerly requested a challenge, only to find himself facing his previous defeated opponent.
Feeling somewhat disheartened, Moka knew he had soundly beaten Kalia last time, and anticipated a similar outcome this battle. Apart from her strong Charmeleon, what use was that Grovyle?
"This time, I won't lose to you," Kalia confidently declared. Her defeat at Moka's hands was over ten days ago, shortly after she entered the Battle Tower. With the experience gained since then and knowing Moka's Pokémon lineup, there was no way she would falter again.
"Very confident, but sadly misplaced. Let reality prove once more that you're no match for me." Moka sneered dismissively.
"Both Trainers, please send out your Pokémon."
The robot referee's voice interrupted their exchange, urging them to commence the battle.
Kalia swiftly retrieved a Poké Ball and tossed it onto the field.
"Go, Grovyle!"
Pop.
The green Grovyle emerged onto the battlefield as Moka simultaneously released his first Pokémon.
"Umbreon, come forth!"
A black-furred Pokemon with red eyes and golden ring-like patterns emerged on the battlefield, resembling a rabbit—an unmistakable Dark-type Pokémon evolved from Eevee using a Dusk Stone: Umbreon.
"You're seriously sending out Grovyle, that weakling, against my Umbreon? Aren't you being too naive?" Moka chuckled, recalling vividly how this same Grovyle was effortlessly defeated by Honchkrow's Wing Attack during their previous encounter, posing no challenge at all.
Kalia felt irritated, her expression turning angry as Moka immediately dismissed Grovyle as a "weakling," which she found truly annoying.
"Grovyle, use Giga Drain!"
The reason for Kalia's defeat last time was Charmeleon's Dragon Breath attack, which inadvertently caused Umbreon to enter a paralyzed state. However, due to Umbreon's Synchronize Ability, Charmeleon also became paralyzed.
With Charmeleon significantly weakened by paralysis and lacking any means to recover, Moka switched in Honchkrow, swiftly defeating both Grovyle and Charmeleon thereafter.
This time, Kalia strategically sent out Grovyle first against Umbreon. Utilizing its strongest move, Giga Drain, combined with Grovyle's speed, gave them a potential advantage.
"Umbreon, close in on Grovyle and use Bite." Despite facing Giga Drain, Moka appeared unperturbed. Instead of switching to Honchkrow, a flying type, for resistance, he chose to have Umbreon confront Grovyle directly.
Grovyle unleashed Giga Drain, generating a powerful attraction fueled by Grass-type energy, straight towards Umbreon.
Kalia knew that Umbreon was renowned for its strong defensive capabilities but had relatively weaker offensive power and couldn't match Grovyle's speed.
As Grovyle cast the move while distancing itself, it seemed poised to prevent Umbreon from even making contact, unless it used Quick Attack.
"Umbreon, dodge Giga Drain," Moka warned. The intense pull from Giga Drain could be avoided, albeit challenging; failure meant risking the loss of vital energy nutrients.
Umbreon sprinted, weaving left and right, but perhaps due to bad luck, still got hit.
Energy nutrients were continuously drained from Umbreon, causing visible damage as its reserves diminished.
However, due to Umbreon's strong defensive capabilities, even after being hit by Giga Drain, no visible signs of injury were apparent. Its fur remained pitch-black, and its running pace didn't falter.
