Chapter 140: Chapter 140: A New Companion
"Bellossom, Shave and Swords Dance!"
Since teaching Bellossom the move Swords Dance, Ron had been working to integrate it into both combat and Shave (a high-speed technique).
Unlike other stat-boosting moves, Swords Dance is one of the few that amplifies power through movement, much like Dragon Dance.
To achieve this, Bellossom first needed to master Swords Dance. During that time, whenever Machamp and the others trained, Bellossom could be seen gracefully dancing on the side.
Hard work paid off. Bellossom eventually gained the ability to move freely while performing Swords Dance. The second phase of training involved combining Swords Dance with Leaf Blade, culminating in the final stage: executing Shave while using both Leaf Blade and Swords Dance.
Ron could only provide ideas for merging Shave, Leaf Blade, and Swords Dance and use his fighting aura to restore Bellossom's stamina and heal any injuries from training.
Bellossom's calm disposition played a significant role in its progress, allowing it to analyze its shortcomings without frustration, steadily improving with each attempt.
Now, Bellossom had finally reached a basic level of success, managing to execute Shave—Swords Dance.
The downside was that both the speed of Shave and the power of Leaf Blade were slightly diminished compared to their normal state. Nevertheless, Ron was already satisfied with this progress.
Against the massive yet less agile Rhydon, Bellossom exploited its speed advantage to the fullest, slashing the Rhydon repeatedly with Leaf Blade, leaving visible wounds.
No matter how much Rhydon roared or retaliated, it couldn't land a single hit on Bellossom. Rhydon's elite-level durability only prolonged its suffering.
"This ends now! Bellossom, use Shave—Hexagram Slash!"
Upon hearing Ron's command, Bellossom, already moving at extreme speed, accelerated once more. From above, one could see a green hexagram forming around Rhydon.
At the end of the green streak, Bellossom's figure reappeared, while the massive Rhydon collapsed.
After defeating the Level 41 Rhydon, Bellossom's power stabilized at Level 39, and it even learned the critical move Quiver Dance.
Rather than pushing for more level gains, Ron planned to let Bellossom accumulate enough energy first, then break through to elite-level strength in one go, surpassing Rhydon's level.
With Bellossom's battle over, Persian's eyes glimmered with excitement.
According to Ron's earlier plan, the next battle would be Persian's turn.
Just as Ron approached Rhydon to administer some basic treatment, Kirlia came over holding the incubator. The egg inside was glowing, signaling imminent hatching.
After a quick treatment of Rhydon, Ron instructed Kirlia to teleport the group away to a safe location where the egg could hatch undisturbed.
Though reluctant, Persian suppressed its fighting spirit and climbed to the treetops, keeping a vigilant watch.
Kirlia's psychic abilities expanded outward, ensuring that any approaching Pokémon would be detected immediately.
By the time Machamp and the others finished securing the area, the egg's glow had become increasingly steady.
The white light scattered, radiating a gentle warmth that Ron could even feel as a slight heat.
As the light faded, a small orange chick Pokémon emerged, tilting its head curiously at Ron with shiny black eyes full of wonder.
At a glance, Ron recognized it as Torchic, one of the starter Pokémon from the Hoenn region.
Looking closer, he noticed Torchic's small, pale orange wings and its similarly colored fluffy feathers that resembled cowlicks.
"Welcome, Torchic. From now on, we're partners."
As Ron spoke, he channeled his fighting aura to nurture the newborn Torchic.
The familiar warmth quickly erased Torchic's sense of unfamiliarity, and it began nuzzling against Ron's outstretched hand.
Having learned from raising Nidoran before, Ron had prepared not only Beedrill honey but also Moomoo Milk for this occasion.
Taking out a mix of honey and milk, Ron fed Torchic while introducing it to Machamp and the others.
With Torchic hatched, the group relaxed their guard, though Kirlia kept its psychic field active within a 20-meter radius.
Under Ron's guidance, Machamp and the others greeted the newborn warmly.
Nidorino, catching the scent of sweet milk, remembered the Beedrill honey from before and involuntarily started drooling. Quickly realizing this, Nidorino swallowed it back—after all, as the older sibling, it wouldn't do to snatch food from the baby.
"Nidorino, do you want some? I prepared plenty."
Taking out another bottle of honey milk, Ron offered it to Nidorino.
Without hesitation, Nidorino leaped forward and grabbed the bottle. "Delicious!"
"Burp~"
Contentedly full, Torchic snuggled into Ron's arms and fell asleep.
As a Fire-type Pokémon, Torchic's fluffy warmth made it especially comfortable to hold.
Thanks to Kirlia's psychic abilities and Ron's energy, they could teleport instead of walking, ensuring Torchic's comfort.
Ron's past experiences had also taught him that letting young Pokémon observe battles early on helped ignite their passion for combat.
Take Nidorino, for example. Back when it was still a Nidoran, it grew up watching Machamp battle and later began requesting battles itself after gaining some strength.
With Kirlia's psychic guidance, they soon found the first suitable opponent for Persian.
Using Shave to vanish, Persian charged forward, leading with Shadow Ball to create an opening before closing in with Slash.
Despite sensing Persian's heat, Arbok's Iron Tail consistently missed, while Persian's relentless attacks began to break its scales.
Under Ron's command, Persian launched attack after attack, steadily wearing down Arbok's resistance.
At some point, Torchic awoke in Ron's arms, watching Persian's battle intently. With a tiny puff, it spat out a small flame.
Clearly, battles excited Torchic, as expected of a Fire-type Pokémon. It was evident that Ron's team would soon have another battle enthusiast joining their ranks.
