Please Behave My Wife Novel

Chapter 3: Chapter 64: Take Care of This, and I'll Grant You Ten Sticks +3

Wrapped up like a silkworm cocoon, the two of them had been lingering in bed for a long time. By 8 AM, they finally got up to freshen up. Qin Guanglin emptied his backpack, leaving it empty, and prepared to head out.

He Fang turned off the air conditioning, gave the room a quick sweep to make sure nothing was left behind, then grabbed Qin Guanglin's hand and headed out. "Let's go, breakfast first."

Though Qin Guanglin hadn't slept much through the night, he was still full of energy. He followed He Fang, strolling around downstairs and having a big bowl of wontons and three fried dough sticks at a breakfast shop.

The saying goes, eat lightly in the morning, fill up at noon, and have a hearty dinner. Qin Guanglin had heard this from his mother since he was young. He wasn't sure if it made sense, but breakfast was just something to tide him over. He didn't need to feel too full.

"Boss, I wanted to ask if you know where there's a shop nearby that sells incense or candles?" After finishing his meal, Qin Guanglin wiped his mouth and asked the shop owner.

The owner, a man in his forties, was quite friendly. He led them outside and pointed, saying, "The nearest shop is over there. Just walk straight in that direction, and you'll find it in about ten minutes."

"Got it, thanks!" Qin Guanglin waved and followed He Fang in the direction the man indicated. In less than ten minutes, they had arrived at the shop, which was supposed to be a "ten-minute walk" according to the owner.

He Fang browsed the store, picking out the best bamboo incense with yellow bodies and red handles, known for their flexibility and resistance to breaking. A bundle contained about 100 sticks. He Fang took three bundles and stuffed them into Qin Guanglin's backpack.

"Do we need this many?" Qin Guanglin was surprised. Usually, just a few incense sticks were enough, and even if they had to burn some more later, one bundle would suffice.

"Better to have more, you can never have too much," He Fang replied as she paid. "You can't skimp on incense."

Better safe than sorry. If they ended up needing more but ran out, it would be awkward.

"Yeah, don't skimp." Qin Guanglin agreed. After all, it was just incense. If necessary, they could just burn a handful at a time.

The shop owner was happy with this type of customer and watched with a smile, saying nothing, until they had paid and were about to leave. He then called out, "Take care!"

Next, they went to a nearby supermarket to buy some bread and snacks. They packed Qin Guanglin's backpack to the brim before flagging down a taxi to head toward Cuihua Mountain.

The journey was completely different from the cityscape of Luo City. He Fang excitedly gazed out of the window, and after a while, she nudged Qin Guanglin. "Look, Da Lei Yin Temple!"

"Where?" Qin Guanglin asked curiously as he turned his head. The car was speeding, and by the time he looked back, he could only see a small dilapidated house. The plaque was too blurry to read.

He pointed skeptically at the little house, "That tiny mud house?"

"Yeah, I saw the plaque," He Fang said, puzzled. "How can a small mud house claim to be Da Lei Yin Temple?"

Qin Guanglin looked back again, but there was nothing left to see. He thought for a moment and said, "Probably a sign they put up themselves... We can check again when we come back."

The Da Lei Yin Temple was supposedly the place where the Buddha once meditated. Surely, there should be a grand temple to match such a name? But what they saw was just an ordinary mud hut with what seemed like straw poking out from the roof...

The car was speeding quickly, but it still wasn't a smooth ride. Soon enough, they arrived at the foot of Cuihua Mountain.

Cuihua Mountain was known for its unique beauty. After researching it the day before, He Fang had decided to make it their first destination. They stood at the base of the mountain, looked up, and then He Fang grabbed Qin Guanglin's hand and started walking up.

It was the weekend, so there were quite a few people—elderly people with walking sticks, couples holding hands, and families with children—all walking slowly along the mountain path. The two of them, in high spirits, quickly overtook several people, holding hands and walking briskly up the trail. They soon reached the square at the foot of the mountain gates, which was even more crowded. The ticket counter was already starting to form a line.

Qin Guanglin stood in line to buy tickets, casually picked up a guide map, and then asked He Fang, "Where should we go first?"

He Fang studied the map for a moment, traced her finger over it, and said, "Let's go this way. We'll take the Cloud Ladder up, pass through the Heavenly Pool, and then go to Cuihua Palace."

"Just what I was thinking," Qin Guanglin said, grinning. It was always nice when they were on the same wavelength.

He Fang looked up at the mountain, a little disappointed. "It's a shame we came early, over a month before the temple fair. I heard the first day of June is the busiest."

"Fewer people means it's quieter, and that has its own advantages," Qin Guanglin said as he tugged her toward the entrance. "If you really want to see the temple fair, we can come back later."

"You said it."

"I did."

He Fang gave him a satisfied peck on the cheek. "That's enough for me. Next time, we'll go somewhere else."

By noon, the sun was scorching.

A gentle breeze blew, and the water in the Heavenly Pool rippled, expanding in waves. Qin Guanglin, holding an umbrella to shield He Fang from the sun, walked closely behind her. He didn't want his fair-skinned girlfriend to get sunburned.

They were getting close to Cuihua Palace, and most of the people around them were couples. There were also small tour groups with matching hats and flags wandering around.

Inside Cuihua Palace, there was a white marble statue of Cuihua, the theme of the site. In fact, Cuihua Mountain had originally been called Taiyi Mountain, but it was renamed after the girl, Cuihua.

The legend said that she had secretly promised to marry her lover, but her family arranged her marriage to a rich man instead. So, Cuihua ran away and hid on the mountain, waiting for her lover to find her. But instead of her lover, it was her brother who found her. He was about to drag her back when suddenly, there was a loud sound from the sky, the ground shook, and clear springs began flowing. Then, Cuihua ascended to heaven and became an immortal...

Qin Guanglin looked at the story written beside the statue, feeling a little speechless. "What's going on? Where's her lover? How did she suddenly become an immortal?"

His interest waned, but He Fang was still very excited. After reading the story, she tossed out a comment, "So touching," and pulled him to walk around the statue.

They walked around the statue of Cuihua, and the incense offerings were still quite abundant. Many couples came to pray here.

"We should pray too," He Fang said, pulling out a bundle of incense from Qin Guanglin's backpack.

Qin Guanglin looked at the incense and then raised his head. "There's no fire..."

"..." He Fang blinked, realizing she'd forgotten to bring matches.

"Hey, there's a lighter over there. How thoughtful!" Qin Guanglin spotted a few lighters next to the incense burner.

"Professional," He Fang nodded in approval, taking a lighter, lighting the incense, and then shaking the flame out before raising it to her forehead and closing her eyes, whispering a prayer.

Qin Guanglin leaned in, but he couldn't quite hear what she was saying. After she inserted the incense into the burner, he also took a small bundle of incense and lit it, mimicking her actions, raising it to his forehead, and muttering his own prayer.

"Lord Cuihua, please bless me and He Fang to always be happy together, no fighting, no arguing, no conflicts, just like this... Oh, and please bless us to get married soon, preferably by next year, so I can come back and burn you ten sticks of incense... Also, please bless me when I meet my future father-in-law, that everything goes smoothly, and..."

He murmured for a while, sincerely placing the incense into the burner. He then clasped his hands together and bowed a few times.

When he turned around, He Fang was watching him with curiosity. "What did you say? Why so long?"

Most people were done with their prayers in a few sentences, but this fool kept going on forever.

"How could I tell you?" Qin Guanglin said seriously. "If I say it out loud, it won't work."

"..."
