Chapter 25 - The Long-Awaited Moment (II)
Darkness manifested before Hades, a shield of pure darkness. The black mist, which seemed weak, proved to be extremely powerful at this moment. Zeus's lightning tried to dissipate the mist, but it was useless; the black mist was seemingly infinite.
Hades did not remain on the defensive; he used his Bident and stabbed Zeus with a terribly cold and chilling gaze. The world was tinged with a dark and deadly color; black flames accompanied by the lament of millions of dead advanced against the King of Olympus.
Zeus showed no weakness and attacked again. The thunderous sound of thunder and the lament of the dead echoed throughout the battlefield. The collision of the two Kings made the entire world turn into a mess. The Gods trembled, the nymphs hid in terror and fear while the Olympians themselves were hesitant.
Suddenly, a figure appeared between Zeus and Hades; it was a girl about eight years old with brown hair and fiery red eyes. She wore a brown tunic and a headscarf.
"Brothers, stop, this war cannot happen." The girl's voice echoed on the battlefield; the warm light of a home calmed the minds of both kings.
Hades and Zeus looked at Hestia with cold gazes. Noticing this, Hestia knew that things were serious. If not mediated, a war could indeed happen between Olympus and the Underworld.
"We are family, why kill each other?" Hestia said with a sad but warm tone, like a fireplace in a united family after Christmas.
"Yes, Hestia is right, father. This war will have no winners." Athena appeared beside Hestia and spoke in a calm and solemn tone. Artemis, the only one who could calm Zeus, also appeared beside Athena.
"I pray you calm your fury, father." Artemis said in a gentle tone to Zeus.
The three virgin goddesses appeared on the battlefield at the same time. The first goddess was sentimental, the second rational, and the third was compassionate.
Although Zeus had a cold expression, he was already expecting this to happen; he really didn't want to fight Hades. Just as Hades himself said, Poseidon would not stand by him in this war.
Although he was more powerful than Hades and Poseidon, if a war of this caliber started, things would not end so simply.
"Family?" Hades seemed to hear the funniest thing on the planet. His pitch-black eyes stared at Hestia with a hint of hatred and fury. "When he killed my lover and children, did you mourn their deaths? Did you feel sadness or even try to help me? When I suffered injustice or even when my descendants were excluded, did you help? Get out of my way or I'll kill you right here."
"You are the goddess of the hearth, but I think you are a failure; your family is only yours, not my family." Hades' voice sounded like a well of malice, anger, and hatred. He endured a lot, being chosen as Lord of the Underworld, being despised by the gods and his own family. He didn't even have a throne on Olympus, showing how unfair his situation was.
Hestia felt tears streaming down her face hearing Hades' words, especially his threat; the murderous intent of the King of the Dead that accompanied the King of the Dead's words could not be more evident at this moment.
It hurt. Hades' words were more torturous and painful than the tortures the King of the Dead invented.
Zeus's face subtly changed with Hades' words. This time, he felt that war seemed an inevitable end. If even Hestia, the Goddess of the Hearth, could not end Hades' wrath, no one else could.
"Your damned family only suits you when you need to calm me down. I really want to tear your flesh and blood, let your golden ichor stain my Bident." Hades said, looking coldly at Hestia, who was crying. He felt no pity seeing his sister cry.
Others might think he was a cold and emotionless being, but he had emotions, and the death of his lover hurt him deeply, but apart from Persephone, no one came to offer even condolences. Even when Maria had died, he did not resurrect her out of respect for his own rules, but no one said he was fair because of that.
"You want to stop this war? Very well, I'll give you a chance." Hades said, his cold and chilling gaze looked directly at Hestia with sarcasm. "Go and kill Thalia, bring her soul to me. Let the goddess of the hearth and family have her hands stained with the blood of her own family."
Everyone looked shocked at Hades. Cruel, it was an extremely cruel, vengeful, and malicious plan. Who was Hestia? The goddess of the Hearth, Fire, Warmth, Family, Domesticity, and the State.
If Hestia were to actually kill Thalia, she might as well kill herself, as it was an act totally contrary to her Divine Positions. Not to mention the trauma it would cause the goddess herself; it would even make her Divine Position want to separate from Hestia.
This was the same as killing her.
Zeus's face changed dramatically hearing Hades' words. He could not allow such a thing to happen. Thalia was family, and he could never allow his daughter to be killed. He would be a laughingstock for all the Divine Kings and Queens of the Planes.
Lightning surrounded the figure of the King of Olympus; the Master Bolt had never been so bright as at this moment.
Hestia showed a sad look; she looked at Hades, showing a determined and guilty look, she took a step forward and said, "If this will calm my brother's wrath, I will accept your request. I will bring my niece's soul."
"If you dare touch Thalia, I will make you regret it for all eternity, Hestia." Zeus looked at Hestia and spoke in a terribly cold tone; he no longer cared what Hestia meant to the Pantheon and his Divine Throne.
Hestia looked at Hades and Zeus, remembering Hades' words, she knew he was right, she was a failure as the Goddess of the Hearth. Her family was weakened while she herself hesitated to help her family. At that moment, because of her own guilt, her Divine Positions trembled, as if they were about to collapse at any moment.
Other divine figures appeared on the battlefield. Demeter, Apollo, Hera, Dionysus, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, and Hermes. Except for Poseidon, all the Olympians were present. The atmosphere reached its peak.
The sound of ocean waves was heard, and a handsome man with black hair and sea-green eyes appeared beside Hades. Poseidon's mere action showed whose side he was on.
This did not surprise the Olympian gods. Zeus might be the most powerful god in Greece, but his ability to make enemies was something that even other divine kings and queens could not match.
"Blood for blood, eye for eye." Poseidon said, his voice as calm and deep as a calm sea. "You killed Hades' son and daughter; he has the right to avenge the death of both children."
Zeus's face became terribly dark; he looked at Hades and Poseidon, his paranoid mind telling him that Poseidon and Hades wanted his Throne. The lives of mere demigods didn't matter to either of them.
"Are you really going to get involved in this, Poseidon?" Zeus asked with increasing fury in his tone.
"You've become old and senile, do I need to repeat that you caused all this?" Poseidon said with a cold tone. "If it weren't for your hypocrisy, do you think I would be by Hades' side?"
Zeus refused to think he was wrong; he was the King of the Greek Gods, how could he be bound by rules he used to control his brothers? "If you insist on staying by Hades' side, don't blame me for being cruel."
"I'm shaking with fear." Poseidon said with an even more sarcastic tone. Zeus could win in a one-on-one fight, but two-on-one? He didn't believe Zeus had become more powerful in just a few decades.
When Zeus was fed up with all the offenses, ready to fight, a woman appeared before everyone.
"Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera's faces calmed, for the woman who had arrived was their mother. Rhea, Former Queen of the Gods and Former Wife of Kronos.
Rhea didn't speak and simply threw a letter to Hades. The Lord of the Underworld looked at the letter in his hand and narrowed his eyes. There was a deep anger in his gaze, burning with an extremely cold black flame.
Written on the paper were only two names.
"Bianca and Nico."
Feeling the divine power of the earth in the letter, there was anger and confusion in the King of the Underworld's gaze. He didn't understand why the Primordial Goddess of the Earth was meddling in Olympus's affairs. However, as one of the most intelligent gods in Greece, he understood in an instant.
"Do you know what's written in this letter, mother?" Hades asked with a malicious and mocking smile.
"No." Rhea replied, looking at her son somewhat intrigued. Gaia only asked her to deliver the letter to Hades; she thought Gaia would give him a request in exchange for Hades ceasing the war.
She was plotting against Olympus again. Hades came to this conclusion hearing his mother's answer. Every time Gaia got involved with Olympus, it always ended in a possible rebellion.
Looking at Zeus with mockery, Hades said nothing and disappeared before the gods, as if erased from reality.
"I will watch your fall, little brother." Hades didn't forget to leave a phrase in the air before leaving. He knew more than anyone how paranoid Zeus was. Saying this would only make him distrust his own mother, as well as Gaia.
Zeus looked thoughtfully at Rhea, his gaze a well of calmness and madness at the same time. He devoured Metis because of a prophecy, and divorced Themis fearing to generate an extremely powerful descendant.
Zeus's eyes fixed on Poseidon, who smiled at him and disappeared in a sea wave. Alarms rang in the King of Olympus's mind.
Something very big was happening, and he knew absolutely nothing.
