Chapter 135: The Possibilities of the Sharingan, and the Art of the Explosion!
Minato Namikaze, Sakumo Hatake, Orochimaru, Fugaku Uchiha, Mokume Kuno… Genichi didn't know much about Mokume Kuno, but during the Second Great Ninja War, he was a jonin who had been on the same team as Tsunade and Dan Katō. He was definitely not to be underestimated.
This combination was a royal flush. It was a team that only Konoha, at this particular time, could assemble. Genichi couldn't help but admire Hiruzen's decisiveness this time.
After returning home and washing up, he created numerous shadow clones to continue his training. Although he had just returned from a mission, he wasn't tired at all. His stamina was full, and his spirits were high. He wasn't even above Kage level yet; how could he slack off?
With his clones out training, Genichi returned to his bedroom and sat at his desk, recording the state of his body and soul. Although his plan was to keep his Primordial Spirit cloaked in Yin-natured chakra and his physical body in the high cell activation state of the Art of Pyo, he would temporarily exit these states to assess the changes over time for the sake of his records.
"Although the changes are subtle, they are definitely effective, especially for the physical body… Maintaining a state of high cell activation for a long time accelerates the tapping of my potential, and the cells' growth capacity is also stronger. My appetite has been increasing this whole time."
"Also, my strength after deactivating the state has also improved to a certain degree. Even though I'm in a growth period, it shouldn't be this fast."
Genichi was now basically certain that this path was the correct one. Of course, the sample size was too small, and he couldn't rule out the fact that he was in his developmental growth phase as a fundamental factor. He would have to see how things went with Tsunade later. But as long as it worked for him, that was enough, even if it was only temporary.
In contrast, the improvement in his soul was extremely subtle, to the point that he wasn't sure if it was feedback from his physical growth or the effect of the Primordial Spirit Technique. This would require a longer period of observation.
After making his notes, he turned his attention to his right eye. He had been continuously analyzing it during this time, even drawing out dōjutsu power he didn't normally use for his Primordial Spirit to carefully examine. He had indeed learned a lot. And he was now basically certain that the improvement in his right eye's dōjutsu power was a result of his continuously strengthening physical body. Although the eye came from Uchiha Namiichi and was an external tissue, its nourishment was supplied by him. And since he was the one constantly growing stronger, there was a subtle influence. The Art of Zai was also a factor in this. The eye was gradually being influenced and changed by him.
However, he also realized that for this Sharingan to evolve from a three-tomoe to a Mangekyō, it was still missing a key point: the Yin nature transformation. It wasn't something that would happen naturally just because his spiritual will became stronger. Nor would it transform just because his genjutsu ability, or rather his proficiency in Yin Release, reached the Mangekyō level. This was because Genichi was now certain that the Yin Release he had mastered was different from the Yin Release of this Sharingan.
People are different. Even if they learn the same Yin Release from the same teacher, a difference in cognition will lead to a difference in the Yin Release they cultivate, especially for a power like chakra, which was so heavily influenced by one's state of mind. Therefore, analyzing the structure and inner mysteries of the Sharingan's dōjutsu power was essential. Only by mastering the relevant information was it possible for the three-tomoe to evolve into a Mangekyō.
Otherwise… his only option would be to seek out a traumatic experience. To passively obtain that Yin chakra like Kakashi, like the other Uchiha. But in that case, he would rather not have the Mangekyō.
Three days passed in a flash.
Minato, Sakumo, and Orochimaru had all returned to Konoha. Fugaku and Mokume Kuno were still on the Kirigakure front.
April 3, Konoha Year 47. 9 a.m.
Genichi, Minato, Sakumo, and Orochimaru met at the village gate and then set off for the battlefield.
Orochimaru walked alongside Genichi, a curious look on his face. "Genichi-kun, if I'm not mistaken, you should be able to deactivate your Sharingan, right? Keeping it active all the time must consume quite a bit of chakra."
Sakumo and Minato couldn't help but glance at Genichi. They had also found it a bit strange. Before, he had almost always kept it deactivated, but lately, it had been constantly active. This didn't fit his low-key style.
Genichi smiled. "Thank you for the reminder, Senpai. But I can sustain this consumption. It won't affect my combat ability. I'm mainly trying to see if I can analyze the power of the Sharingan."
Orochimaru thought to himself, As expected. He hadn't been wrong. Genichi was indeed verifying the theories he had mentioned to him, but in a different way. He wanted to analyze the Sharingan to completely acquire the genes for this Kekkei Genkai.
Does he want his other eye to awaken the Sharingan too? As expected of you, Genichi-kun. Others, even if they obtained such a power, would never have such a bold idea. Orochimaru felt he was the one who understood Genichi's thoughts the best.
Minato, however, was surprised. "Analyze the Sharingan? Are you trying to upgrade it? Genichi, you're not an Uchiha. I'm afraid that will be very difficult."
Genichi nodded. "It is indeed a very difficult thing."
Minato was also a genius, but he was completely different from Orochimaru. The former pursued the jutsu itself, while the latter pursued the fundamental mysteries of the jutsu. For Minato, mastering and using a jutsu was enough. He was a perfect, standard ninja. Orochimaru, on the other hand, was a seeker of knowledge, someone who didn't quite fit in with the traditional ninja mold.
Watching his student conversing so easily with Orochimaru and Minato, Sakumo was filled with pride and emotion. Genichi's achievements have already exceeded all expectations. I wonder how far he will go in the future? Perhaps he will reach the level of the First Hokage. Sakumo was filled with hope and anticipation.
They chatted all the way, arriving at the front lines at one in the afternoon to rendezvous with Fugaku Uchiha and Mokume Kuno. However, they didn't act immediately, instead conserving their strength. At the same time, Jiraiya began to quietly make arrangements. The moment Genichi's team succeeded, he would immediately launch a counter-attack while the Mist's morale was unstable.
Time flew by, and night fell.
Genichi stood with his teacher Sakumo and Orochimaru. Opposite them were Minato, Fugaku, and Kuno.
"Minato-san, we'll go first!" Genichi said, his hands already on Sakumo and Orochimaru's shoulders. With a swoosh, they vanished.
The Land of Whirlpools, inside a warehouse.
Genichi appeared with Sakumo and Orochimaru. Immediately after, Minato appeared with Fugaku and Kuno, as Genichi had a marker that Minato had left on him.
Next, Genichi went to Fugaku's side, placed a hand on his shoulder, and the two of them vanished. After dropping Fugaku off in the Land of Waves, Genichi returned. He did this to conserve Minato's chakra. Minato didn't have the Nine-Tails right now.
So, Minato, Fugaku, and Kuno would be responsible for the Land of Whirlpools and the Land of Waves. Genichi, meanwhile, would take Sakumo and Orochimaru further east, to a warehouse on the easternmost island, Fire Island.
After exchanging a hand signal with his teacher, Genichi vanished from the warehouse with Orochimaru. Sakumo immediately got to work, first planting explosive tags in key locations. He then intentionally made a sound, luring the guards outside into the warehouse.
Pfft! Pfft!
Two slashes, two lives reaped. Sakumo slipped out of the warehouse. Once he was a safe distance away, he formed a one-handed seal. The explosive tags inside the warehouse ignited, and then…
BOOM!
The entire warehouse erupted in a violent explosion. Flames shot into the sky, incredibly bright against the night. At that moment, all the Mist-nin on the island were alerted. Shouts were heard, and figures rushed toward the warehouse at top speed.
Sakumo, lying in ambush nearby, struck like a venomous snake, easily taking out the first wave of the closest reinforcements. Immediately after, two other warehouses suddenly exploded, lighting up the sky.
On the other side, in the Land of Whirlpools and the Land of Waves, the attack had begun a little earlier than Genichi's. With the violent explosions and the flames that lit up the night sky, it was so bright that it could even be noticed from the Land of Fire. And indeed it was.
The Mist's forward base.
Since successfully breaking through several of Konoha's defensive lines and beginning their push into the Land of Fire, the forward command post had been moved into the country itself. However, since Yagura had been severely injured by Genichi, the commander had been changed. It was now Hōzuki Shingetsu, a contemporary of the Third Mizukage who had experienced the First Great Ninja War and was also very powerful.
When he learned that the Land of Waves and the Land of Whirlpools were under attack, he immediately realized the situation was bad. This was definitely Konoha's doing. Although he didn't know how they had bypassed their tight surveillance and infiltrated, there was no time to worry about that now. Shingetsu was certain that Konoha would also be making a move on the main front.
"Lock down the information immediately! Order the front lines to go on maximum alert and watch out for a counter-attack from Konoha! Order a full mobilization… Dispatch four elite squads to reinforce the Land of Waves and Whirlpools!"
However, before Shingetsu's orders could be passed down, the Mist-nin near the coast were already in an uproar, and the panic was spreading rapidly. The explosions were continuous, which meant that food, drink, medical supplies, and ninja tools were all being rapidly destroyed.
And before his orders could even reach the front, Jiraiya had launched a full-scale counter-attack, throwing all his forces into it without holding anything back, personally leading the charge.
That night, the most intense battle since the start of the war between Konoha and Kirigakure erupted.
And by the time the Mist's reinforcements reached the eastern end of the islands of Whirlpools and Waves, they saw flames erupting in the darkness to the east, illuminating the sky.
"This… how is this possible?"
"How could they be so fast?"
"How did they infiltrate?"
The Mist-nin were in disbelief.
