Chapter 134: The Ace Team!

Chakra carrying genetic information and spiritual consciousness is something Orochimaru had actually already achieved in the original timeline, for example, with his Cursed Seal of Heaven. As for his Living Corpse Reincarnation, Genichi wasn't sure if Orochimaru, having become a giant white snake, had completely shed his physical body and was performing a direct spiritual possession. Judging from his reincarnation method during the Impure World Reincarnation of the four Kage, it seemed he still had a physical body, but it was also possible that the white snake was an existence similar to a Tailed Beast—possessing a physical body but also being a chakra entity.

This speculation was based on the fact that Orochimaru had even managed to cultivate the Eight-Tails' horn. And after his main body was sealed by the Sword of Totsuka, he was revived through the Cursed Seal of Heaven on Anko Mitarashi, which was a perfect demonstration of what Genichi had said: chakra can carry one's own genetic information and spiritual consciousness. This method was remarkably similar to the Ōtsutsuki clan's method of turning their abilities into data to form a Karma seal for possession and reincarnation. Genichi even believed that the core foundation of both methods was the same. The only difference was that Orochimaru used senjutsu chakra to form a curse mark, while the Ōtsutsuki clan didn't use the energy known as chakra.

So, Orochimaru was truly brilliant.

Genichi and Orochimaru were deep in their discussion, but Anko Mitarashi, who had wandered to the doorway, was completely lost. She couldn't understand a word, but she thought it all sounded very impressive.

As expected of Genichi-senpai! Anko thought, stealing a glance at his profile and couldn't help but blush.

Genichi spent the whole afternoon at Orochimaru's lab. In the evening, he went to the hospital to tell Tsunade about his collaboration with Orochimaru and, as expected, was nearly beaten up. Luckily, he was a fast runner.

The next day, he went to report to Hiruzen, who, as expected, did not object. That same day, Genichi delivered the bodies to Orochimaru's lab. The living Hōzuki Mugetsu, however, remained with Tsunade.

For the next few days, Genichi's real body stayed at the lab. Apart from physical training, all his other experience-based training was done by shadow clones. Unfortunately, Orochimaru only stayed for four days before leaving for a mission. Genichi himself only got a seven-day break before he had to go out on a mission again, this time to gather intelligence behind enemy lines on the Kirigakure front.

This was currently the most common type of mission for Anbu. They rarely appeared on the main battlefield; they were either gathering intelligence or carrying out assassinations. Of course, such missions were no safer than the front lines. Infiltrating behind enemy lines to gather intelligence, in particular, was a dangerous job.

March 26, Konoha Year 47. Late at night.

A thousand meters above the sea, Kinoshita Genichi and Uzumaki Ina stood on the back of the tiger-headed eagle, Toratou. By now, its wingspan exceeded ten meters. Its body was massive, and it looked increasingly ferocious. Most importantly, after being constantly nourished by Genichi's chakra and food, Toratou had finally developed its own chakra and was no longer an ordinary bird of prey. However, it still couldn't speak, although it had become very intelligent and could directly understand Genichi's words. This showed just how difficult it was to raise a talking summon.

At this moment, Toratou was circling high above the small island nation of the Land of Waves, and Genichi's perception was already extending downward. The reason they were scouting from such a high altitude was that Kirigakure had deployed avian ninja beasts in the sky. At the same time, there were sea beasts monitoring the ocean. This was why it was so difficult for Konoha to obtain intelligence on the Mist's rear. It was already hard enough with the sea in the way, making it easy to be spotted. With Kirigakure adding simultaneous surveillance from the sea and sky, their defenses were airtight. After all, Konoha was not lacking in flying ninja beasts either.

Right now, Genichi could sense an eagle circling above the island. He could also sense a Mist-nin stationed on the mountaintop, occupying the highest point on the entire island. This man and bird combination was enough to control the sky and monitor the sea surface. Combined with the sea beasts patrolling the waters, the difficulty of infiltration was extremely high.

"Genichi, how are we going to get in?" Ina asked.

"If we're just gathering intel, we don't necessarily have to go in," Genichi smiled.

Ina's eyes lit up. "Is it that new sensory Kekkei Genkai you mentioned?"

Genichi nodded, his perception already extending over the entire island. Unless Kirigakure buried their supplies underground, it would be difficult to hide them from his "Heaven's Eye." Even though the images he saw were black and white, he could still determine the location of the supply warehouses by observing the guards and the shapes of the buildings.

But with Kirigakure's current deployment, just gathering intel was of little use. Since they couldn't infiltrate, they couldn't sabotage anything. Therefore, Genichi had to at least get a Flying Thunder God kunai onto the island.

After a rough scan of the situation, and confirming that there was a supply point here, Genichi immediately ordered Toratou to continue flying east, to the eastern end of the island. Of course, the moment Toratou descended, it would be spotted by the Mist's ninja beasts. So, Genichi planned to drop an object from high altitude.

He was going to throw a Flying Thunder God kunai from a thousand meters up onto the beach on the eastern side of the island below. Dropped from such a height, the kunai would definitely stick into the beach, but not too deeply. In the humid environment, he would still be able to sense it. Then, he could just teleport onto the island, completing the first step of his infiltration.

Ina looked down into the pitch-blackness. "Will it… will it fall into the sea?"

"We'll know when we try," Genichi smiled. After calculating, he tossed a kunai westward. It went into a freefall, its downward velocity quickly exceeding 100 meters per second. From a thousand meters, it reached the ground in only six or seven seconds, plunging into the beach. The entire handle was buried in the sand, but it wasn't too deep. Genichi could sense it easily.

"Success," he said. "Ina, you stay here and provide support."

"Understood!" Ina nodded obediently. She always followed his orders and wouldn't insist on helping.

After giving his instructions, Genichi vanished from Toratou's back. He appeared suddenly on the beach. He had coated the soles of his feet with chakra beforehand, so he left no footprints. Although this area wasn't under strict surveillance, details determined success or failure.

Without digging up the kunai, he tiptoed across the beach and entered a patch of bushes. Beyond the bushes was a mountain. After crossing three or four mountains, there was the highest peak, where the Mist-nin he had sensed earlier was stationed. So, in the bushes, Genichi used the Transformation Technique, turning into a rat and circling the mountain toward the western side of the island.

As he neared an inhabited area, he changed into a wildcat. By the time he was hidden behind a warehouse, the sky was already growing light. The mist on the island was very thick.

Genichi reverted to his human form, used a genjutsu to hypnotize the two guards at the gate, and entered the warehouse. After a quick look around, he saw that it contained ninja tools, various medical supplies, and daily necessities. He stuck a Flying Thunder God kunai to a roof beam and then vanished without a sound.

There was, of course, more than one warehouse on the island, but he didn't need to place a kunai in every one.

Returning to Toratou's back, Genichi immediately retreated. At dawn, if the sky over the sea was clear, they could easily be spotted, even from a thousand meters up. So, he waited until nightfall before setting out again, using the same method to leave a kunai on one of the islands in the former Land of Whirlpools.

He spent the next few days doing the same thing.

The Land of Waves and the former Land of Whirlpools were Kirigakure's closest supply points to the front line. Further out to sea were four more, forming an island chain that extended toward the Land of Water. Kirigakure's supplies, and even subsequent reinforcements, would first arrive at the island closest to the Land of Water. Their medical corps' camp was set up on the second island from the east.

Seven days later, the two of them returned to Konoha. It was now April.

Hokage's Office.

Hiruzen Sarutobi's brows were furrowed as he looked at the intelligence Genichi had brought back. It was a difficult situation. All six islands had to be destroyed to force the Mist to temporarily withdraw from the Land of Fire. But even with the Flying Thunder God, it would be difficult to infiltrate with that many people.

After reading the report and looking at the simple map Genichi had drawn, Hiruzen looked up. "Genichi, only you and Minato in the village have mastered the Flying Thunder God. Do you think it's possible to destroy Kirigakure's logistical points?"

Genichi stepped forward and pointed to the map. "Even the Land of Whirlpools and the Land of Waves are not close to the front line. The Flying Thunder God really can't transport that many people. Of course, we could use the method of repeatedly transporting people, but there are time constraints."

Hiruzen nodded. If there were too many people, they couldn't stay hidden for long. They couldn't underestimate the Mist. Such an operation had to be a swift and decisive battle.

"Therefore," Genichi continued, "we need to launch a surprise attack from both ends simultaneously. One is at the Land of Whirlpools and the Land of Waves, which are closest to us. The other is at the Fire Island, which is farthest. Then, we rendezvous in the middle and retreat. As long as we're fast enough, Kirigakure won't have time to react."

"As for the personnel for the mission, they must be strong enough to hold their own. Besides myself and Jonin Minato, we can have at most four others."

Hiruzen fell into thought. According to Genichi's plan, six people would carry out the mission. Besides Genichi and Minato, they would need to select four more.

Sakumo Hatake, Orochimaru, Tsunade… no, Tsunade's strength isn't in combat. Jiraiya is on the front line. Danzō is in the Land of Rain. Then Mokume Kuno, a former member of Tsunade's squad, he's also a jonin. And finally, Uchiha Fugaku.

Hiruzen didn't hesitate for long before deciding on the personnel. He said to Genichi, "Besides you and Minato, Sakumo, Orochimaru, Mokume Kuno, and Uchiha Fugaku will go with you. The time is set for three days from now."
