Chapter 133: Body Regeneration, and Pushing Orochimaru's Limits

In the evening, Kinoshita Genichi arrived at the Konoha Hospital, while Uzumaki Ina went to see Kushina Uzumaki.

"Lord Genichi!"

A voice called out to him on his way to the lab. Genichi turned and saw a somewhat familiar figure to his left. "Nono Yakushi?"

Nono, her black hair now blonde and wearing a different pair of glasses, nodded quickly. "Yes. Thank you for your help last time, Lord Genichi."

Genichi gave a slight nod. "We are comrades, no need to be so polite. Besides, you are my senior. Hmm… are you working at the hospital now?"

Nono nodded. "Yes. Since I know medical ninjutsu, I'm helping out here. I also manage the orphanage in my spare time."

"I see," Genichi smiled. "Well, keep up the good work. If you ever need help, you can come find me."

"Thank you, Lord Genichi!" Nono said gratefully.

Genichi nodded and continued on his way. Since she called me 'Lord Genichi,' I can help her out if she needs it. Of course, the main reason was to make Danzō unhappy.

He arrived at the lab and was surprised to find Tsunade there.

Hearing his footsteps, Tsunade turned around, also a bit surprised. "When did you get back?" The two of them hadn't seen each other for quite a while.

"I got back this afternoon." Genichi's mood improved just seeing her. After all, she was a pleasant sight; at 34, Tsunade was at her most charming.

"Any breakthroughs recently?" Genichi asked, coming to her side.

Tsunade shook her head. "Too busy. But I've got some ideas about that proposal you mentioned."

"Hmm?" Suddenly, Tsunade stared at Genichi, sizing him up. "Your body… why is your cell activity so strong?"

Genichi grinned. "It's that Art of Pyo secret technique I told you about. I've made some progress recently. It can greatly increase cell activation, but it does consume a tiny bit of chakra."

Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Is it really that amazing?"

Genichi took out a prepared scroll. "You can try it. I taught it to Shizune before, but the effect was a bit weak when she used it."

"I'll give it a try," Tsunade said, taking the scroll. "So what have the effects been for you?"

Genichi shook his head. "I've only just started, so it's hard to say. It will take time to verify. However, since I mastered Ice Release, my physical constitution has clearly improved. Not directly, but my potential has increased, my capacity for growth."

Tsunade mused, "It's inevitable that a new nature transformation would change one's genes. It's a human instinct, the instinct to pass on one's traits."

Genichi nodded. This was the miracle of life.

"Lady Tsunade, I remember you have Earth and Water affinities, right?" Genichi asked. "Perhaps you could try for Wood Release?"

Tsunade snorted. "If it were that simple, my great-uncle probably would have mastered it too. A Kekkei Genkai isn't so easy to learn."

"Of course, I know that," Genichi said, resigned. "Based on my experience, the mastery of a Kekkei Genkai is deeply related to one's own cognition. Cognition is partly your own knowledge base, and partly your way of thinking, your ideas, your beliefs."

"I can understand the knowledge base, but what do you mean by thinking, ideas, and beliefs?" Tsunade asked, confused.

Genichi thought for a moment and used a different word. "You can think of it as creativity, inventiveness!" To put it more bluntly, it was the power of imagination, of having wild ideas.

"Chakra is a unique energy formed from the basis of physical and spiritual energy. In theory, it is omnipotent. It can create substance from nothing, and it can create life."

"You're talking about Yin and Yang Release," Tsunade said. "The combination of the two is the art of Yin-Yang Release."

Genichi shook his head. "Using chakra to create water, earth, or lightning, isn't that creating matter, transforming energy into matter?" Although most Earth and Water Release jutsu relied on the existing earth and water, they could also be directly converted from chakra. This was because any nature transformation inherently carried Yin and Yang properties, a fact determined by the very essence of chakra.

"I'll consider it," Tsunade said thoughtfully. She then opened a drawer and took out a scroll. "Here, this is about Yang Release. There's also an incomplete secret technique that I compiled from the data my great-uncle left behind. I'm planning to use this as a basis to develop an S-rank medical ninjutsu later."

Genichi took it and opened it, a little surprised.

Body Regeneration.

He was immediately reminded of the Body Regeneration secret technique used by the Sky Ninja Shinnō from the original timeline. He remembered that this guy's secret technique, and the sealing jutsu to control the Zero-Tails, were both stolen from Konoha.

"The Second Hokage's research was truly extensive," Genichi said with sincere admiration. Tobirama Senju had contributed at least half of Konoha's foundations. After all, any jutsu whose creator was unknown was attributed to him. And it was very likely true. Genichi suspected that the Izanagi that guy Danzō had was also something left behind by Tobirama. Tobirama knew the Uchiha very well; Genichi didn't believe for a second that he hadn't studied them.

Genichi carefully read the contents. Part of it was about Yang Release nature transformation, clearly the results of Tsunade's research on Hashirama's cells. And Body Regeneration… it was a flawed technique. It consumed a lot of chakra, was uncontrollable, and could easily lead to infinite cell division, which would kill the user. And cell division itself shortened one's lifespan, as it was limited.

Of course, flaws aside, the jutsu itself was worth studying. Especially now, as research deepened, it wasn't impossible to gradually remove the flaws and make it controllable. This was likely what Tsunade planned to do next.

However, Genichi was more interested in the mysteries of Yang Release. Although he had mastered it, his talent in this area was far inferior to his talent in genjutsu and Water Release. So he had to borrow the wisdom of others. That was why he maintained good relationships with Tsunade, Minato, and Kushina. He knew very well that even with his 'cheat,' his own areas of expertise and his own wisdom were limited. One head is not as good as many. Master Lu Xun was never wrong.

Genichi stayed in the lab until nine o'clock, then saw Tsunade home first. Although she insisted she didn't need an escort, he didn't take her seriously. After that, he swung by Minato's house to pick up Ina and walk home with her.

"It's so much more comfortable in the village. I learned a new sealing jutsu today," Ina chattered, sharing her gains from the evening with him. Genichi listened attentively, occasionally offering suggestions, his emotional support and reliability on full display.

The next day, after his morning training, Genichi came home and saw a small white snake in the corner. So Auntie Snake is back.

He walked over and took the note from the snake's mouth, then turned and went inside. "Is that Orochimaru's summon?" Ina asked curiously.

Genichi nodded, then said with some helplessness, "We're a bit short on summoning animals. Just having Toratou isn't enough. A pity we don't have time to go looking for more."

"When Toratou has his own children, we'll have more summons!" Ina smiled.

Genichi couldn't help but laugh. "Good point!"

After breakfast, he went to the hospital again, only arriving at Orochimaru's secret lab in the afternoon.

"Anko," Genichi said, surprised to see Anko Mitarashi there.

The petite Anko quickly bowed. "Lord Genichi!"

Genichi waved his hand. "Just call me Senpai. Or you can even just use my name."

"Yes, Senpai!" Anko immediately complied.

Orochimaru told Anko to go play on her own, then led Genichi to another lab. "You've had quite a harvest recently, Genichi-kun. Interested in making some trades?"

"Senpai, are you after the cells of the Kekkei Genkai users?" Genichi smiled.

"How about the bodies?" Orochimaru grinned.

"You really are greedy, Senpai," Genichi laughed.

Orochimaru spread his hands. "In this field, Genichi-kun, Tsunade can't compare to me. How about you join me?"

Genichi fell into thought. It was true. In terms of research direction, Tsunade couldn't compare to Orochimaru. Many thoughts flashed through his mind. He nodded, but then said, "However, I'm afraid I'll have to report this matter to the Third Hokage."

Orochimaru laughed, unconcerned. "Don't worry, he won't object."

"I'm afraid Tsunade will have a strong opinion," Genichi said wearily.

"I'm sure you can handle it, Genichi-kun," Orochimaru said meaningfully.

Genichi changed the subject. "Have you made any special breakthroughs with Hashirama's cells recently, Senpai?"

Orochimaru glanced at Genichi's Sharingan. "Thanks to your information. It's a pity I don't have a Sharingan to experiment with. You could consider transplanting Hashirama's cells, Genichi-kun. With the current technology and your Sharingan, there would be absolutely no problem."

Genichi shook his head. "The compatibility is off. The rejection is too severe. Even with the Sharingan, it would be difficult to use them freely. Unless we continue to modify Hashirama's cells to make them adaptable to anyone."

"Modify?" Orochimaru was thoughtful. "Do you have some new ideas, Genichi-kun?"

"I believe we still need to start from chakra and human genes," Genichi said. "The genetic inheritance of life is miraculous, and Kekkei Genkai are defined as something that cannot be obtained through study, but must be inherited by blood. Of course, in the process of inheritance, some information is inevitably lost, or some information is hidden in the genes as a recessive trait. That's why the Kekkei Genkai of a descendant might be inferior to the previous generation, but it's also possible that it could be as strong as the first generation's."

Orochimaru nodded. He knew all of this.

"So," Genichi continued, "can we find the genes that represent Wood Release, and only take those genes? After all, the human genome is too complex. It's hard for us to know where the conflict is that causes the fusion to fail. If we could edit genes, cut them, and select the ones we need for transplantation…"

Orochimaru was already getting excited. He stuck out his tongue. "That is indeed a very bold and innovative idea. And it seems like it might be possible, although extremely difficult. As you said, Genichi-kun, the human genome is too complex. The slightest mistake could cause a total collapse."

"Indeed," Genichi nodded. "This path is also very difficult. Or, we could use in vitro modification. For example, by cultivating egg and sperm cells, and then gestating an embryo with Wood Release in an artificial womb. That would greatly increase the success rate of a compatible match."

Orochimaru looked at Genichi, his gaze fervent. "I really didn't misjudge you, Genichi-kun. But the ideas you're suggesting are all very challenging."

"I have faith in your abilities, Senpai," Genichi smiled. "I myself don't have the ability to realize such ideas."

An artificial womb and the like would be a piece of cake for Orochimaru. After all, the guy had already managed to cultivate a horn from the Eight-Tails' cells. The difficulty lay in cultivating egg and sperm from ordinary cells. Hashirama was already dead, and he certainly hadn't frozen any sperm. That was one difficulty. There was another. If Orochimaru wanted to transplant it into himself, he would need to induce his own cells to become female and then cultivate an egg. That was much harder than cultivating male reproductive cells from Hashirama's cells. But if he could pull it off… Hiss! It was better not to think about it.

"Then, what was the other direction you mentioned before, the one related to chakra?" Orochimaru asked.

Genichi didn't answer. Instead, he said with emotion, "I have to say, the Shadow Clone Technique developed by the Second Hokage is a great ninjutsu."

Orochimaru's eyes gleamed. "Is it related to shadow clones? Are you referring to the fact that they can use all of the original's abilities?"

"You're right, Senpai," Genichi nodded. "The essence of chakra is a power formed by the combination of a person's physical and spiritual energy. Therefore, it must have two abilities." He held up one finger. "First, it carries our spiritual will. That's why clones from techniques like the Clone, Shadow Clone, and Water Clone Jutsu can all have consciousness and act independently."

Orochimaru nodded, his heart pounding. This was the foundation of the Living Corpse Reincarnation he was researching. He had studied too many bodies, and even a body as powerful as Hashirama Senju's was mortal. This was one of the reasons he hadn't directly transplanted Hashirama's cells. So after seeing the Impure World Reincarnation, Orochimaru understood one thing: the body was too fragile, but the human spirit and soul could be eternal. And thus began his research into immortality.

After finishing his first point, Genichi held up a second finger. "Second, chakra can carry the body's genetic information. For example, a shadow clone can also use the Sharingan freely. A Kekkei Genkai like the Sharingan is different from something like Ice Release; it's integrated with a specific part of the body."

"That's right," Orochimaru nodded. "So your idea, Genichi-kun, is to start with the First's chakra, similar to how I cultivated the Eight-Tails' horn? And then use Hashirama's chakra to induce the cultivation of your own cells?"

Genichi gave him a thumbs-up.
