Chapter 132: The Secret of the Sharingan, and a New Genjutsu

"Whatever," Kakashi huffed, turned over, and went back to sleep.

Obito fumed. "When I awaken my Sharingan, I'm definitely going to teach that arrogant jerk Kakashi a lesson."

Genichi nodded. "Obito, I believe you can do it."

Hearing this, Obito broke into a goofy grin. "See, Genichi, you've got good judgment."

Minato was speechless. That silly kid Obito gets completely turned around by a single compliment. Unfortunately, he didn't know that Genichi was speaking the absolute truth, without a single false word. With Obito's helpful personality, once he was sufficiently traumatized... tsk tsk, his power after turning to the dark side would be explosive. But if he wasn't traumatized, he probably wouldn't awaken his Sharingan and would live an unremarkable life.

Genichi suddenly wondered, had Madara Uchiha been keeping an eye on Obito from a long time ago? Madara understood the Sharingan very well; he could see a person's potential just from their personality. Tobirama Senju also understood the Uchiha clan very well, knowing that the more love an Uchiha possessed, the more terrifying their power would be when that love was lost. It was very likely that the old fossil Madara had been watching Obito through White Zetsu for a long time.

That made things difficult. Although that old coot Madara was hooked up to tubes, if it came down to a real fight, Genichi was still no match for him. His experience from the "future" included a battle with Madara. His taijutsu, genjutsu, and Fire Release were all top-tier. Add the Susanoo to that, and even without the Rinnegan, Madara was above Kage level.

"Genichi, how is your Flying Thunder God training coming along?" Minato continued the idle chat.

Genichi still hadn't deactivated his Sharingan, but he pulled his ninja headband down to cover it at an angle. "I can finally mark things at will. The effort wasn't wasted." Effort in the future is still effort!

The two of them exchanged tips on their training. They even left their personal Flying Thunder God markers on each other's arms. Genichi's marker was the character for "Gen" (玄).

After talking about the Flying Thunder God, the topic shifted to sealing jutsu. Genichi mentioned his own version of the Transcription Seal, as well as the Earth Sealing Technique he had learned in the future. Minato already knew about the Earth Sealing Technique, but he hadn't mastered the Earth Release nature transformation, so he hadn't learned it.

But the Transcription Seal made Minato's eyes light up. If he learned it, he could seal the Flying Thunder God Technique inside Kushina, which would automatically trigger and teleport her to a designated safe place if her life was ever in danger.

The two of them chatted enthusiastically, but Obito grew sleepier and sleepier as he listened, eventually falling asleep against the cave wall. Sigh, I'm giving you an opportunity and you're not taking it.

While Genichi and Minato talked, his Primordial Spirit within the Yin Seal continued to observe his Sharingan. Unconsciously, the sky began to lighten. Ina, Kakashi, and the others woke up one by one.

After replenishing their stamina and water, the group of six set off at high speed. They weren't far from the Land of Fire, so by the time they reached Konoha, it was only a little past four in the afternoon.

After debriefing with Hiruzen, Genichi took Ina home.

Once home, he immediately soaked himself in the bathtub. In the space of the Yin Seal, his Primordial Spirit was still analyzing the power of the Sharingan. For a long time to come, Genichi would keep his Sharingan in an active state. Although it would consume some chakra, it was a trivial amount for him. Analyzing the Sharingan was the most important thing. And the Primordial Spirit Secret Technique would also be constantly maintained. Or rather, he had developed this technique precisely for this purpose.

"A Kekkei Genkai like the Sharingan is the most special."

Genichi continued to take stock. This time, it was about the genjutsu Izanagi. In the future, he had repeatedly experimented with a large number of three-tomoe Sharingan, further analyzing this ultimate genjutsu that could reverse life and death. Although his shadow clones couldn't use the jutsu, so he hadn't tested if the Primordial Spirit's "Rin" seal could resist it, he had a gut feeling that it probably couldn't.

He now had a sufficient understanding of Izanagi. And it was this jutsu that had given him a deeper understanding of the Sharingan itself.

Izanagi required the sacrifice of an eye to cast. Previously, Genichi had speculated whether possessing sufficient Yang Release power could offset this negative effect. But in truth, even Obito Uchiha, who had Hashirama's cells, couldn't avoid going blind when he used it.

In the future, Genichi had tried repeatedly with one three-tomoe Sharingan after another. In theory, it was possible. But the problem was, not even an Eternal Mangekyō could do it. Because its dōjutsu power wasn't strong enough.

So what was dōjutsu power? It was a term exclusive to eye-based Kekkei Genkai. For the Uchiha clan, chakra was chakra, and dōjutsu power was dōjutsu power. The use of dōjutsu was based on chakra. The Susanoo was no exception.

To understand dōjutsu power, one must first understand the principle behind the formation of the Sharingan. Any Kekkei Genkai is a new nature transformation formed from the fusion of two others. For example, Ice Release is Wind + Water, which creates the new nature of ice.

As for the Sharingan, with the exception of the Uchiha's ancestor Indra who was born with it, the Uchiha clan generally awakened their eyes after experiencing a massive spiritual shock, which created a special chakra in their brain. This special chakra acted on the optic nerves, thus activating the Sharingan.

This special chakra is Yin-natured chakra. When it acts on the optic nerves, it combines with physical energy, which is Yang nature transformation. Therefore, the so-called "dōjutsu power" is the new nature-transformed chakra of the Sharingan Kekkei Genkai.

However, the Sharingan and Byakugan are special in that their Kekkei Genkai are closely linked to a specific part of the body: the eye's visual system. Unlike with Ice Release, where Genichi could refine chakra from his whole body to perform the nature transformation and obtain its power, the Sharingan and Byakugan couldn't do this. Their dōjutsu power came only from the visual system of the eyes.

Before awakening the Mangekyō, the body's natural recovery ability was sufficient to support the dōjutsu power consumption of a three-tomoe Sharingan. But after awakening the Mangekyō, the use of its unique dōjutsu required a huge amount of dōjutsu power, and controlling the Susanoo even more so. Over-refining and using chakra can cause physical damage, even death. Overusing the Mangekyō leads to gradual blindness because the Uchiha clan's physical recovery ability at that stage is insufficient for frequent Mangekyō use.

As for transplanting a close relative's Mangekyō to evolve it into an Eternal Mangekyō, which wouldn't go blind from prolonged use, Genichi hadn't studied it and didn't know the specific core of it. But he could speculate that it wasn't as simple as just swapping out your own eyes for another pair. Otherwise, if two brothers swapped, wouldn't they have two pairs of Eternal Mangekyō? The transplant process probably also involved the element of fusion.

And from the original timeline, where Obito's ordinary Mangekyō Sharingan became like an eternal one after transplanting Hashirama's cells, it could be seen that a sufficiently powerful physical recovery ability was the key to the Eternal Mangekyō.

So, back to the ultimate genjutsu, Izanagi. The power required to cast this jutsu was too great. Not even the Mangekyō was enough to support it. It would instantly overdraw the dōjutsu power, completely destroying the eye's cells and leaving no chance for the body to self-repair. How strong would a body, or even an eyeball, have to be to withstand it? Genichi didn't know, because even in the future, he didn't have enough samples to try. But from the information he had, he could speculate that even Hashirama Senju himself would have had a hard time.

Based on his future attempts, he could basically declare that the idea of a normalized, side-effect-free Izanagi was a dead end for the foreseeable future. After all, it reversed life and death; losing an eye was a small price.

However, although the future Genichi couldn't change Izanagi's side effect, he came up with another idea: to continue modifying his self-created genjutsu, Mirror Flower, Water Moon. The concept of this genjutsu was to use water to reflect the surrounding environment to create an extremely realistic illusion.

The future Genichi's idea was to reflect a copy of himself and "save" it. The enemy's attacks would still affect the real world, but they would only hit a phantom replica of the user, causing no harm to the real body. And this replica, when killed or injured, would quickly recover, leaving the enemy feeling like they were viewing a flower in a mirror or trying to scoop the moon from the water. The key was that the replica's attacks within the genjutsu would be real and effective against the enemy.

Genichi mulled over his future self's idea. It didn't seem very difficult to develop. He already had the foundation: the original Mirror Flower, Water Moon, the Water Mirror Technique which could copy an enemy and all their ninjutsu—if it could copy an enemy, it could copy himself—and his solid accumulation of genjutsu knowledge.

This has potential… Genichi also thought it was a great idea. I'll aim to finish this jutsu within a year. Can't leave everything to the future, can I?

Next was the Nine-Syllable Secret Arts, or the Kuji-in. Genichi now referred to them collectively as the Nine-Syllable Secret Arts.

The "Rin" seal had been initially developed. Combined with the Primordial Spirit Technique, it had a surprisingly miraculous effect against genjutsu. However, since his shadow clones couldn't use Izanagi, he didn't know for sure if it could grant immunity, but he suspected it probably couldn't. The value of Izanagi was very high.

Unfortunately, the "Pyo" seal's speed boost seemed to have hit a limit. There wasn't much improvement this time. Before, it had increased his speed by two-thirds; now it was still just under double. However, there was an unexpected bonus: the "Pyo" seal now showed new progress in healing, or rather, in Yang Release nature transformation and cell activity.

"Yang Release, cell activity… that's not too strange. The purpose of the basic hand seals is to help a ninja better perform nature and shape transformation," Genichi mused. "The key is to maintain it for a long time, and in turn, let this powerful Yang Release and cell activity change the genes, just like I suggested Tsunade use the Yin Seal and Strength of a Hundred Seal to feed back into her own body with Yang chakra. I have to try this… I must try it. Coincidentally, the power leaking from the Eight-Tails' horn is enough to sustain this consumption, with some left over."

Genichi immediately activated the Art of Pyo. Instantly, he felt his cell activity triple, and his overall speed in all aspects increased by just under double. His chakra was also being continuously consumed, and with the drain from maintaining his Sharingan… the power leaking from the Eight Trigrams Seal was used up just like that. And the chakra in his Yin Seal was now being used by his Primordial Spirit.

Good thing my own chakra reserves are massive now, Genichi thought with relief. Just then, he heard Ina calling him from outside. He quickly reined in his thoughts and stood up from the bathtub.
