Chapter 136: Ten Years of Ice, and Danzō's Move

"Explosions truly are an art," Genichi said with a smile, watching the flames shoot into the sky. Setting off fireworks was indeed satisfying, especially when those fireworks were mixed with countless ninja tools, which made for an even more dazzling display.

Just now, he had first set a fire in the ninja tool warehouse to lure the Mist-nin over, and only then had he detonated the explosive tags, sending the tools inside flying. The Mist-nin had died quite horribly. Genichi mourned them for half a second, then vanished. He regrouped with his teacher Sakumo and Orochimaru, and they moved on to the next island.

This island was already on high alert, but it still couldn't stop them. By detonating one location, they could draw the Mist forces and then launch a surprise attack elsewhere. The Flying Thunder God Technique gave them an absolute tactical advantage. Moreover, the ones carrying out this mission were the elites of the elite.

There were six islands. Genichi's team was responsible for three, and Minato's team was responsible for the other three. By the time they were finished, the Mist's reinforcements were still eating their dust.

However, when the two teams met up, Minato's chakra was a bit low. It would have been difficult for him to transport everyone back in one go. Fortunately, they had the nutritional supplement. After two consecutive injections and a ten-minute wait, Minato was almost fully recovered. This time, there was no need for Genichi to take people back first; the two of them activated the Flying Thunder God at the same time and vanished from the island together.

From beginning to end, any of the Mist-nin who survived had no idea who their attackers were. All those who had seen Genichi's team were killed.

At the Mist's forward command post, as more and more reports came in, Hōzuki Shingetsu's heart filled with despair. Their entire rear had been annihilated. Their logistics were completely destroyed. Even if supplies were expedited from the Land of Water, it would take at least three or four days.

He remembered when he had just taken command; everything was thriving, full of vitality, and they had the absolute advantage. How had it all come to this overnight?

Seeing his silent commander, Ao quickly reminded him, "Lord Shingetsu, we must retreat immediately! If Konoha attacks our transport ships at the port, our forces could collapse, and we won't be able to withdraw from the sea quickly!"

Shingetsu snapped back to reality and gave a decisive order. "Ao, go immediately and give the notice for an orderly retreat. I will personally cover the rear!"

Ao wanted to say something but held his tongue. He hurried off to relay the order. In truth, even if the Mist didn't retreat, they wouldn't be able to hold. An unstable rear directly affected the fighting will of the front line, and with Konoha's all-out counter-attack, their front was on the verge of collapsing.

When Genichi and the others returned to their starting point, there were no Konoha ninja left. The Mist had retreated, and Konoha was in hot pursuit. The former front line had now become the rear.

Minato couldn't help but smile. "Looks like we've won a great victory! It's all thanks to your plan, Genichi."

Fugaku Uchiha spoke up. "Genichi deserves the primary credit this time."

Everyone nodded in agreement. The intelligence was gathered by him, the plan was made by him, and the infiltration was led by him. Without him, this plan would not have been possible. Even Minato, who also had the Flying Thunder God Technique, couldn't have done it.

Seeing everyone praise his student, Sakumo was filled with pride, but he still said, "The battle isn't over yet. Let's head to the front."

Everyone nodded and set off.

As the sky brightened, on a battlefield not far from the coast, Hōzuki Shingetsu and the dozen or so Mist-nin covering the retreat had been surrounded by Jiraiya's forces on a lake created by water jutsu. One by one, the rearguard was picked off. They had tried to break through several times but couldn't escape the encirclement.

Soon, only the hydrated Hōzuki Shingetsu was left. At this moment, his body had merged with the entire lake, preventing the other Konoha ninja from getting close. Although Lightning Release countered the Hydrification Technique, it required a certain level of power. With Shingetsu's massive body of water, ordinary lightning jutsu could hardly subdue him. And as it happened, there was no one here among the Konoha ninja with such a jutsu. Jiraiya's specialty was Fire Release. Even with Gamabunta summoned and using a combination fire attack, they couldn't do anything to him.

"You have no way to escape. Why continue to fight?" Jiraiya said from atop Gamabunta's head. "If you surrender, I will guarantee your safety on my honor as one of the Sannin of Konoha. You might even be ransomed back by the Mist."

The hydrated Shingetsu's expression was calm. "Kid from the Leaf, don't waste your breath. I will not surrender. Defeat me with your strength."

Jiraiya was helpless. This old guy was really tough to deal with. And he couldn't relax, or he would escape.

Gamabunta glanced up at him. "Use Sage Mode," he suggested. "Try that jutsu. A powerful wind jutsu should be enough to blow the water here away. Without so much water, he shouldn't be so hard to deal with."

Jiraiya nodded. "I suppose that's the only way. But you'll have to keep an eye on him for a bit." He needed to summon the two great sages to help him; otherwise, he was afraid he couldn't handle it alone.

"No problem," Gamabunta said, exhaling a puff of smoke.

Jiraiya immediately clapped his hands together and began to prepare. Just then, a voice rang out. "Let me handle it."

"Who?" The Konoha ninja and Shingetsu all looked up and saw a figure descending from the sky.

"It's Lord Genichi!" a Konoha ninja exclaimed.

"Kinoshita Genichi?" Shingetsu snorted. A torrent of water shot into the sky, spinning at high speed and condensing into a sharp drill to meet the falling Genichi.

Genichi was upside down. He slammed a fist into the rotating water drill.

Boom!

His monstrous strength erupted, blasting the drill apart. The terrifying force even caused the surging water to pause for an instant. But then the water continued to rise, sweeping toward Genichi, trying to envelop him.

Genichi opened his palm, and an ice-blue light bloomed.

Ice Release: Absolute Zero Freeze!

In an instant, the surging water froze, and the ice spread rapidly downward.

Shingetsu's pupils constricted. "Ice Release!" he couldn't help but exclaim. Kinoshita Genichi had mastered Ice Release! And the speed of this freeze… it was something he had never seen any Ice Release user from the Yuki clan achieve.

Shingetsu immediately tried to cut off the flow of water to stop the ice from spreading to him. But Genichi's freeze wasn't just spreading from above; without him noticing, it had been conducted through the air and was now closing in from the sides.

In less than two seconds, an iceberg had appeared before the Konoha ninja. The hydrated Hōzuki Shingetsu was frozen solid within it.

"So… so amazing!" someone exclaimed, then shivered. It was so cold, goosebumps covered their body. The stunned Konoha ninja all came back to life at once.

"Lord Genichi has Ice Release!"

"I've seen Mist Ice Release users before. I don't think… they were this powerful, right?"

"Unbelievable. How does this guy train?"

"This is what a true genius is. Looks like we're about to be retired!"

Atop Gamabunta's head, Jiraiya lowered his hands and couldn't help but mutter, "This guy really knows how to steal the show."

"That kid is dangerous," Gamabunta said.

Jiraiya was about to say something when a voice sounded in his ear. "You're useless as ever, you idiot Jiraiya."

"Orochimaru!" Jiraiya turned and saw Orochimaru standing on a nearby tree. He immediately snorted. "It would be the same if you were here. No, you probably would have let this guy escape, and maybe even gotten beaten up by him, hahaha~"

Orochimaru didn't say anything and leaped away.

Jiraiya's laughter died in his throat. He gritted his teeth. "That guy is still so infuriating."

Gamabunta stared at Orochimaru's retreating back. "It's been a long time since I've seen him. I feel like that guy… is becoming less and less human."

Jiraiya was silent, a look of helplessness and sadness on his face. "Next time, I'll definitely teach that bastard a lesson."

After cursing, Jiraiya leaped down to the iceberg and asked Genichi, "Genichi, is this guy dead?"

"Of course not," Genichi shook his head.

Jiraiya looked at the frozen Shingetsu, then waved over two Konoha ninja, telling them to cut him out of the iceberg and transport him away. Just as Genichi was about to stop them, one of the ninja had already swung his sword at the iceberg.

Clang!

Crack!

Clatter!

The ninja who had swung the sword stared blankly at the broken blade in his hand. Many of the other Konoha ninja, who were about to go after the retreating Mist, couldn't help but stop and watch, their eyelids twitching. The other ninja who was about to swing his sword quickly stopped. "This… this is too hard!"

Of course, it's hard. That's ten years of effort! Genichi was very satisfied with the result. "Let me do it," he said. He placed his hand on the iceberg. The cold energy flowed back into his body, and the hard ice immediately melted into a gush of water. The iceberg quickly dissolved, leaving only the block of ice containing Shingetsu.

"Let's just use a sealing jutsu," Genichi said after a moment's thought. He then thawed the block of ice as well. Shingetsu immediately came back to life. This time, he was much more subdued. He stared at Genichi. "Did you steal the Yuki clan's Ice Release?"

Genichi chuckled. "I've experienced the Yuki clan's Ice Release. They are not as strong as me." He raised his hand and used the Evil Sealing Method, then used genjutsu to rob him of his sight, hearing, and touch, before leaving coolly.

The sun rose in the east, its light glittering on the surface of the sea.

Genichi stood on a reef, watching the Mist Village's fleet sail away into the distance. The bodies of Mist-nin floated on the water. The Mist had retreated, completely withdrawn from the Land of Fire. This could be called a great victory. But was the war with the Mist over? Probably not.

Swoosh. Genichi vanished from the reef. He arrived at the medical corps' camp, which had been moved forward, and saw Shizune busy, sweat beading on her forehead. He went over to help.

"Genichi!" Shizune was pleasantly surprised.

"I'll help you," he smiled.

Shizune nodded happily, her fatigue seemingly vanishing in an instant.

The fighting had completely ended by nine in the morning. Back in Konoha, Hiruzen received the battle report from the front lines a little before eleven. It wasn't delivered by a person, but by a ninja beast. A smile finally appeared on his face as he read it. But he quickly composed himself and began to write orders for Jiraiya to redeploy his forces and guard against another attack from the Mist. He then gave an order to the scout teams in the southern Land of Fire to be wary of an invasion from that direction.

After giving the orders, Hiruzen stood up, intending to go for a walk, but Sarutobi Shinnosuke appeared in his office. "Third Hokage, news from the north. Kumogakure has officially declared war on us and has begun their attack."

The good mood Hiruzen had just felt vanished without a trace, but his expression didn't change. He just nodded slightly. "I know." The Cloud was a sword hanging over their heads. It was bound to fall sooner or later. This was expected. Right now, Kumo was mainly engaged with Iwa; their main forces were not on this side.

At four in the afternoon, Genichi and the others returned to Konoha to report to Hiruzen. Genichi was once again given the opportunity to choose a ninjutsu from the Scroll of Seals. He had already officially obtained the Spirit Transformation Technique and the Reaper Death Seal (from Kushina). As for the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique, he had figured it out himself from the original.

Then, Genichi suddenly realized that there weren't many ninjutsu left in Konoha that particularly interested him. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Lord Hokage, does the village have any particularly powerful ninja swords?"

Hiruzen was taken aback. "You don't need a ninjutsu?"

Genichi nodded. "I don't have any plans to train in Lightning or Fire Release at the moment, and I prefer to develop other things myself." In truth, he had copied many Earth and Wind Release jutsu in the future, so he didn't need them either.

Hiruzen also realized that Genichi not only possessed the copy wheel eye, but was also a highly innovative genius. He nodded. "The First Hokage left behind a Kusanagi Sword, named Kaminotachi. I will give it to you."

Kusanagi Sword? Kaminotachi? Genichi was surprised. He had thought Hiruzen would give him the Second Hokage's Raijin Sword. But a Kusanagi Sword was also good. He had searched for one before but couldn't find it.

When he received the Kaminotachi, he immediately felt that the wide, large sword in his hand was very familiar. After thinking carefully, he realized it was the greatsword that Hashirama and Madara had used in their battle at the Valley of the End.

Genichi swung the greatsword. It was heavy, but for him, it was just right, allowing him to make use of his monstrous strength. The two swords he had custom-made before were more suited for a light and swift style. And with the greatsword Samehada, which could absorb enemy chakra and was perfect against jinchuriki, his arsenal was now complete.

He took the sword home and continued his training. The outbreak of war between Kumo and Konoha didn't affect him, giving him a rare long vacation.

Time flew by. As expected, Kirigakure did not give up on attacking Konoha. After only half a month, they once again invaded the eastern coast of the Land of Fire, and small units also appeared in the south to harass them.

While Genichi was diligently training and researching, a meeting was taking place in the Hokage's tower. The attendees, besides Hiruzen, Koharu, and Homura, included Danzō, who had returned from the Land of Rain.

"Has it really reached such a critical point?" Koharu's face was grim after hearing Danzō's words.

"Iwagakure is amassing troops in the Land of Rain. Their objective is already very clear," Danzō said. "If we let them join forces with Amegakure, the trouble will be even greater. Therefore, I believe we must strike first, persuade Hanzō to cooperate, and wage war against Iwagakure together to drive their forces out of the Land of Rain."

Homura said in a grave voice, "This analysis is indeed reasonable. However, fighting three villages at the same time will stretch our forces very thin. Shouldn't we end the battle on one front first?"

Danzō snorted. "Kirigakure and Sunagakure are already showing signs of peace talks, especially since Kiri has suffered great losses at our hands. And compared to the Land of Wind, the Land of Fire is more worthy of their efforts. They have already failed once, yet they are invading again. This is very obvious. I'm afraid the Third Mizukage has already made up his mind to make peace with Suna. We are in a passive position in the war with Kiri. Are we going to wait for Iwa to join forces with Hanzō and attack us? At that time, the situation will be even more difficult!"

Danzō shouted, and Koharu and Homura fell silent. He then turned his gaze to Hiruzen, who had been silent the whole time.

Hiruzen raised his eyelids. "Danzō, are you confident you can persuade Hanzō?"

"Of course," Danzō said, full of confidence.

Hiruzen closed his eyes in thought for a moment, then opened them. "Then you will be responsible for negotiating with Hanzō. The moment the alliance is formed, we will immediately declare war on Iwa."

A smile appeared on Danzō's face. "Don't worry, I will accomplish it. Also, there is one more thing, regarding Kirigakure. Their peace talks with Sunagakure are very disadvantageous to us. To alleviate the situation, I believe it is necessary to take some special measures against them. For example… assassinating the Third Mizukage!"
