Chapter 54: Leaving
"Please! I'm ready to talk! Please, don't kill me! I'll do whatever you want!"
A man with a face swollen like a pig's butt screamed in fear, his eyes glued to the floor, too terrified to make eye contact with the demon in human skin standing in front of him. His arms and legs were twisted at unnatural angles, completely immobile.
Hmmm...
Tarkan made a thoughtful expression, like he was trying to decide whether or not to let him speak. Weird.
"I swear I'll tell you anything you want to know! I'll even rat out my mama for you, just, just give me a chance to talk!"
The accountant was terrified of Tarkan. He had been beating him for a while now. After every few hits, Tarkan would make that same contemplative expression, just like now, shake his head, and continue the beating.
Seeing that Tarkan's current silence was stretching longer than usual, the accountant couldn't help but throw in one more desperate plea.
"My life is just starting! I just recently turned 25! I'm still a virgin, bro! I can't die now..." he cried, face still looking like a pig's behind, his voice heavy with depression and regret.
Tarkan, who had only been pretending to think in order to mess with the man's mind, broke character at the outburst. His eyes gave the guy a second glance.
Maybe he'd overestimated him. He was doing all this just so the man wouldn't lie about the officer's whereabouts. He had no way to tell if he was being lied to or not, so he used the same trick he'd relied on back when he was a gangster in his previous life, the use of fear.
But now, looking at the man's pathetic state, Tarkan couldn't help but think maybe he had gone too far. Still, it was better to be sure than sorry.
"How am I supposed to know this Felix sergeant you're talking about is the man I'm looking for? And even if he is, where is he?" Tarkan asked, already confident he'd achieved his goal based on the man's condition.
"I can assure you, Sergeant Felix fits the description perfectly!" the man said quickly, his voice laced with excitement like someone who had just won a lottery. He started wriggling toward a drawer with an eagerness that ignored his broken limbs.
"What? You trying to escape?" Tarkan asked, eyeing the way the man was dragging himself with his twisted arms and legs.
"No, no, no, no, no! I swear, I was just trying to reach for the drawer! I have a picture of him!" the man said, shaking like a cheap vibrator, his voice panicked as he explained frantically to Tarkan.
"I won't hit you. Relax," Tarkan said, seeing the man finally start to calm down.
Guess I went a little too far, Tarkan thought.
He hadn't only been beating the guy to get him to talk, he was also kind of expecting Sergeant Felix to show up. But not only did the sergeant not appear, no one did. Tarkan had already shut the entrance door of the building earlier.
Following the man's instructions, Tarkan quickly opened the drawer and brought out the photo the accountant mentioned. And sure enough, there it was, a group photo of officers all dressed in their uniforms.
"Is he the Sergeant Felix you were talking about?" Tarkan asked, pointing to one of the men in the photo and showing it to the accountant.
The man nodded frantically.
"You came late. He ascended yesterday to the second dimension," the accountant added.
Tarkan stared at the man. He didn't think he was lying, it made perfect sense. Even though Tarkan had only been newly awakened when that incident happened, he was pretty sure that officer had a lot of prime points. He wouldn't be surprised if Felix had maxed them out.
He must probably had still been in the first dimension to protect Cassian. Tarkan pondered
What Tarkan couldn't quite wrap his head around was how these rich folks kept sending their guards to the same settlement as themselves. He was sure it had been stated that spawning in the same settlement with someone you knew in the first dimension was less than a one percent chance.
And he completely ruled out the idea of them traveling from one settlement to another. It was believed that most settlements were separated by dimensions in the first dimension.
"Do you dare lie to me?" Tarkan threatened. It wouldn't hurt to make absolutely sure. The canonical source for this content: M|V|L2EMPYR.
"I swear on my mother, I wouldn't dare lie to you! You can ask everybody her.." the man stopped mid-sentence, glancing at the room and remembering that Tarkan had already knocked everyone out.
"I swear I.."
Tarkan didn't let him finish. He knocked him out with a clean blow, cutting him off. He was already fed up with the man's cowardice.
He didn't even know what he had been expecting from the guy. But whatever it was, this man had no dignity.
"Felix, my good friend... I'm coming for you," Tarkan said with a smile, glancing around at the unconscious people sprawled across the room.
I probably went overkill in that tournament by obtaining this talent... Tarkan thought.
Standing in the center of the space, Tarkan suddenly sat down and activated his mark, completely without care.
He was confident, even if someone was hiding in the building, waiting for the right moment to strike, his prime points gave him the edge. And even if they did manage to land a hit, he could simply reverse time and dodge it altogether.
