One Piece: Start by Saving Roger, I Was Invited to Join the Crew

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Ace is born

"Ace will be so spoiled with Big Brother Whitebeard as his godfather," Rogue chuckled softly, covering her mouth. Her face was filled with gentle warmth.

Hearing this, Whitebeard felt a warmth in his heart.

"Hahahahahahaa! The child's name is Ace, huh? Not a bad name. Don't worry, sister-in-law. On this sea, I, Edward Newgate, still have some influence."

Whitebeard looked at Roger. "I'll head out now. Contact me with a Den Den Mushi if there's anything."

With a grin on his face and in an exceptionally good mood, Whitebeard led his crew away.

"Hehehe," Roger grinned widely.

Meanwhile, few CP intelligence agents were observing from nearby, playing with rattles or sucking on lollipops.

Rob Lucci murmured in his heart, "I heard earlier that Roger's wife is giving birth. This intel is important."

Aside from Foz Fo, who didn't come due to his towering height, the rest of the agents were scattered around, pretending to play with toys or frolic with other children while observing—just like Rob Lucci.

Among the crowd, Teach turned to glance at Reid. He had no interest in Ace or the godfather stuff. His focus remained entirely on Reid.

"This guy Reid is suspicious. I didn't catch it at the moment, but even the best doctors can't cure someone that quickly. That woman was screaming in pain earlier. Reid… I'm really getting more and more curious about you. Zehahahahaha!"

Rayleigh walked up to Roger and said, "Roger, Rogue's pregnancy is full term now. Without Reid just now, it would've been dangerous. You need to be prepared—she could go into labor at any time."

"Ah... You're right. I can't even sleep at night now." Roger turned to Reid. "Reid, is there any way to ensure Rogue gives birth safely?"

Rogue also looked at Reid with a pleading expression. She had been terrified by what had happened before. She wasn't afraid of dying—but worried she wouldn't be able to leave Ace behind safely.

"Yes, Reid! Your medical skills are so great. You must have a way," Pancro tugged at Reid's pants.

"Reid, you must have an idea, right?" Dorinco walked over and grabbed Reid's hand.

"Brother Reid, please think of something," Yutou added seriously.

Although Reid had no actual experience in this field, seeing everyone looking at him expectantly, he had no choice but to say something.

"Sister-in-law Rogue, when the midwives were assisting you earlier, what did you feel?"

Rogue thought for a moment, then answered uncertainly, "I just felt like my whole body was in pain—even my bones. I was covered in cold sweat, and had no strength… but the baby inside didn't show any sign of wanting to come out."

"In this situation, it usually requires a C-section… but in the world of pirates, they probably don't have such medical facilities," Reid muttered to himself.

"Rogue, don't worry. As long as the baby has a heartbeat, that means he's alive. In my hometown, there were cases of pregnancies lasting over a year—these things can happen."

Reid was essentially borrowing from myth to reassure her. Calming Rogue's anxious mind was his top priority; the rest would rely on his healing ability.

"What Reid said makes sense. There are so many races in this world, it's normal for some to be a little different. I bet Ace will be really strong someday, hahaha," Momora said with a grin, adjusting his hat.

"Reid, during this time you should stay in the room next to ours. That way, if anything happens, you can act quickly," Roger said.

"You're right, Roger. That was my plan as well." Reid nodded. After what had happened, he was determined to guarantee the safety of both Rogue and Ace.

The sun set, and a pale glow crept into the sky. Yet in Roger's heart, there was a burning fire that would not go out.

...

Time flew by. More than a year had passed since the difficult labor. Rogue was once again taken into the delivery room.

The date was now January 1st, Year 1500 of the Sea Calendar.

In a delivery room on Baterilla Island, there were five experienced midwives and ten young assistants. Reid was also present.

He stood at a spot where he could only see Rogue's head from afar, but that was enough.

"System, activate," Reid whispered internally. The system showed the current date: January 1st, 1500. Reid had previously discovered that the system had a built-in calendar function.

"Is this fate? She could've given birth last time, but it just had to wait until today… It's already been 20 months of pregnancy," Reid thought helplessly. Despite the system calling him the 'Son of Destiny,' it still led to this day for Ace's birth.

"Ah…" Rogue cried out in pain, her face pale and drenched in sweat.

"Dr. Reid," a young midwife called out.

"Coming." Reid walked to Rogue's side, placed his hand on her forehead, and in an instant, Rogue's strength returned.

"Thank you, Reid."

"Sister-in-law Rogue, don't thank me. Right now, the only thing you need to focus on is giving birth to Ace. I'll be right here with you."

"Mm... Ah!" Rogue responded, but before the word had fully left her mouth, another intense wave of pain hit her, and she cried out again, her face drenched with sweat once more.

"Hot towel, give Rogue some warm water to rehydrate," one midwife instructed.

"Yes." A young assistant quickly fetched water and helped Rogue drink.

"This kid… acting like he's Nezha or something, tormenting Rogue so much…" Reid thought to himself.

He was completely speechless. No wonder Rogue passed away after giving birth to Ace—so this was how painful the process really was. Reid had already been in the room for over an hour.

Outside, Roger was pacing back and forth, extremely anxious. The members of the Roger Pirates and Whitebeard Pirates were all gathered outside waiting.

"Roger, with Reid in there, nothing will go wrong," Rayleigh said calmly, trying to reassure him.

"You weren't even this nervous when we reached Laugh Tale," Jabba jokes.

"You guys don't understand what it's like to be a father. I'm just too overwhelmed."

With this one sentence, Roger basically roasted every member of both the Roger Pirates and the Whitebeard Pirates standing there.

"Roger… hearing something so responsible come out of your mouth just feels… weird," Whitebeard said, his mouth and eyes twitching in awkwardness.

And he wasn't the only one who felt that way—everyone present thought the same. But unlike Whitebeard, no one dared to say it out loud.

In the crowd, Teach frowned, "That strange woman, to be pregnant for so long and how long it takes to give birth to a baby."

 …"

Suddenly, a loud cry echoed through the room like a meteor streaking across the dark night sky—piercing the silence and signaling the arrival of new life. At last, Ace had been born.

"It's a boy! He's here!" a midwife shouted with joy.

Reid beamed with relief and immediately restored Rogue's strength.

"She's alive! That's amazing! Hahaha!" Roger laughed as he burst into the room, overcome with emotion.

"My dear!" he called out.

"Haha, Roger—it's a boy," Rogue said, her face glowing with happiness.

"Congratulations, Pirate King. It's your son," a midwife said respectfully, carefully handing the bundled newborn to Roger. By now, everyone on the island knew he was the legendary Pirate King.

"Hahahaha! So this is my son?!" Roger's eyes were filled with pride and joy.

"Brother Roger, I'll wait outside," Reid said with a smile. Since Rogue would need to change into clean clothes, it wasn't appropriate for him to stay.

"Alright. Thank you, Reid. With you here, I feel completely at ease."

"We're brothers, part of the same family. Of course I'd help," Reid said warmly, then turned and exited the room, gently closing the door behind him.

Outside, he saw Huaidibei waiting with fresh clothes in hand.

"Reid, I'm going in to give these to Rogue."

"Go ahead. Everything's fine now," Reid nodded.

"Got it," Huaidibei smiled at him, then walked into the room.

Once inside, she approached Rogue with a soft smile. "Rogue, here are your clothes. Let me help you change."

"Thanks, but I can manage," Rogue said with a gentle smile.

Huaidibei was stunned—Rogue didn't look like a woman who had just gone through labor. Her complexion was bright, her energy full, as if she hadn't just experienced hours of intense pain.

What she didn't realize was that this was all thanks to Reid. In just over an hour, he had used his healing ability multiple times to restore Rogue's strength.

Meanwhile, Roger stood cradling his newborn son, a wide grin on his face, his heart overflowing with joy.

"Hahaha! This is my son—Gol D. Ace!"

On January 1st, 1500 of the Sea Calendar, the child of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Rouge was born. This historic moment would be remembered for generations to come.
