Chapter 26: Ch 26. Appointed as Admiral, Requesting Permit to Set Sail
Two days passed quietly.
The remaining two matches were finally completed.
Just as Roman had expected.
After defeating Akainu, the two other candidates selected for the rank of Admiral were Aokiji and Kizaru!
With Roman at the center, the three newly-appointed Admirals walked side-by-side, heading straight for Sengoku's office.
Wherever they passed, Marines halted and saluted them with the utmost respect—awe and reverence filled within every soldier's eyes.
Kizaru, walking lazily beside Roman, tilted his head. "Roman~ have you thought of your codename or epithet yet?"
Every admiral had a codename.
There was Kizaru (Yellow Monkey), Momousagi (Pink Rabbit)… and so on.
But Roman, despite being on the brink of becoming an Admiral, still hadn't announced his.
"I have already decided," Roman replied calmly. "Admiral Kizaru—"
Kizaru waved his hand immediately, smirking. "Roman, we're both Admirals now~ Just call me Borsalino, or use my codename. No need to be so formal."
Aokiji joined in, hands stuffed in his pockets as he added coolly, "That's right, Admiral Roman. Among the three of us, you're clearly the strongest. We were both there. Watching your performance that day… we couldn't help but feel ashamed of ourselves!"
"Haha…" Roman chuckled. "Don't flatter me, Admiral Aokiji, Admiral Kizaru. I've decided on my codename… it'll be White Dove."
A white dove—symbol of peace and freedom.
Gentle, yet powerful. Just like himself.
"Admiral White Dove, we'll be counting on you."
"If you ever need support, just say the word," said Aokiji and Kizaru in unison.
Aokiji had bonded with Roman through Sengoku. The other? Kizaru, the king of neutrality—saw in Roman, a valuable ally. Truly putting his ball on all sides of the court.
'So this is what it feels like… to join the Marines and become an Admiral. This is quite the experience.'
Roman's thoughts flickered.
He now wore two faces on the vast sea.
One—an enigmatic figure who was continuously clashing against the Marines.
The other—Admiral White Dove, the Marines' newest rising star!
Whichever role he needed to play, he could now switch between the two freely.
Just then…
[Ding! Congratulations, host. You've checked in at Sengoku's office. Reward: Peak Sword Mastery!]
A warm current surged through Roman's body. Countless insights into the path of the sword flowed into his mind like a flood.
As expected, Sengoku's office was a notable location. Even in the original timeline, it had appeared frequently.
He absorbed the knowledge swiftly.
Then, with calm steps, he pushed open the door to the office.
Sengoku was already waiting.
Sitting upright in the Fleet Admiral seat, he raised his gaze to meet theirs. His voice was steady and full of authority.
"You three were chosen through rigorous trials. True powerhouses worthy of the title 'Admiral.' Especially you, Roman—you opened my eyes. With the three of you here, I believe the pirates of the seas will be cleansed sooner than expected."
"Roman, have you decided on your codename?"
"White Dove," Roman said calmly.
"White Dove... Excellent."
Sengoku nodded approvingly, and with that, White Dove, Kizaru, and Aokiji were officially instated as the new Admirals of the Marines!
As always, it was Morgans, the infamous newspaper tycoon, who got the news first.
Soon, across the seas, anyone who picked up a newspaper saw the shocking headline—
"Marines' Power Restructure! Three New Admirals Take Office!"
And at the center of attention was none other than… Admiral White Dove, Roman!
Some believed he was unfathomably strong. Far beyond the other two.
After all, defeating Akainu easily was proof enough.
But others thought Akainu had simply underestimated him. Letting an unknown outsider climb straight into an Admiral seat… to them, this was a sign of the Marines' decline.
Still, regardless of opinions, everyone etched one name into their hearts.
White Dove. Roman.
As they were preparing to leave Sengoku's office, Roman's eyes fell upon a report lying on the desk.
It was a mission file—Captain Nezumi's report on governance issues in Cocoyasi Village.
[Ding! New Check-In Mission Triggered: Cocoyasi Village. Reward: Noah's Ark! Time Limit: 7 days.]
Noah's Ark?!
Roman's eyes sparkled.
The ship of legends. A vessel of oaths and promises. According to the timeline, it should still be slumbering just outside Fishman Island…
Just imagining its massive structure made Roman's blood race with anticipation.
He couldn't wait to head for Cocoyasi Village!
"Roman, something on your mind?" Sengoku asked, noticing his pause.
Roman turned back around, eyes sincere. "Fleet Admiral… I do have a concern."
"Speak."
"Given, I was unknown before all this… suddenly being appointed as Admiral—don't you think it could damage the Marines' reputation?"
Sengoku stood firm. "No matter what the world thinks—from this day on, you are a Marine Admiral!"
Roman seemed to consider this for a moment.
Then, he raised his head again. "Fleet Admiral. I'd like to request a one-month leave… to build my name properly!"
Sengoku narrowed his eyes. "You're going pirate-hunting?"
"Yes," Roman nodded firmly. "There are still countless pirates out there—pillaging, murdering, repeating tragedies like the ones I saw in my hometown. I want to give them the harshest judgment possible… and prevent those scenes from happening again."
BANG!
Sengoku slapped his desk, eyes blazing. "Good! Good! Roman, I'm glad to see you carry this sense of justice! You truly are the right choice. What do you need? Soldiers?"
"No soldiers. Just one warship."
"Hm… I heard you and Kalifa are close. How about she acts as your second-in-command? I'll also assign you a top-tier Admiral-class battleship."
"Thank you, Fleet Admiral."
"No need to thank me. It's the least I can do."
As Roman walked out of Sengoku's office, a wide grin stretched across his face.
He'd been holed up in Marineford quite long enough.
It was time to roam the seas again.
More check-ins… more strength!
If one wanted to live freely on these seas, power was the only path to true freedom!
As he stepped outside, a shadow flickered past him in the distance…
