One Piece: Alucard the Immortal

Chapter 40: Vegapunk's Experimental Results

"Am I still riding that old junk ship? I should just steal a new one!" Alucard muttered to himself, turning to leave.

Devon and her crew, meanwhile, headed in the opposite direction and were already clashing with the encircling Marines.

There was no other choice; their path was completely blocked, so they had to force their way through.

However, the Marine presence in St. Poplar was far superior to that of an ordinary island, and the Devon Pirates would likely pay a heavy price this time.

Alucard's direction led him towards Vice Admiral Pernest Joseph Gold. When they saw Alucard approaching, many of the Marines swallowed hard. A rifleman closest to Joseph Gold couldn't help but ask, "V-Vice Admiral, should we attack?"

Vice Admiral Joseph Gold, true to his name, had a golden Mohawk haircut. Upon hearing his subordinate's question, he gravely replied, "Wait. He's a pirate hunter, not a criminal. Do not engage unless he makes the first move."

Although Joseph Gold said this, many Marines feared Alucard might suddenly attack, their eyes practically bulging from their sockets.

As Alucard approached the front of the military formation, the riflemen in front, for some unknown reason, voluntarily parted to create a path, allowing Alucard to leave.

"Phew..."

At this, everyone couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. However, Catarina Devon and her pirate crew on the other side were still on a rampage, and there was no room for delay.

Joseph Gold roared, "All units, attack! Arrest the Devon Pirates!"

Since Alucard was willing to leave on his own, Joseph Gold could now focus all his attention on dealing with Devon.

The Devon Pirates' numbers were far greater than the fifty-odd members Alucard had seen here. Many others had split off from Captain Devon to procure water, food, and other supplies.

In places like this, pirates tended to act with more discretion, opting for normal transactions and purchases. After all, in smaller, less guarded villages and islands, which pirate didn't simply take what they wanted?

Upon hearing the commotion, the other members of the Devon Pirates immediately rushed to reinforce them. After suffering losses of roughly a third of their numbers, they finally managed to withdraw from St. Poplar.

As for Alucard, he simply snatched a small schooner before departing. The iron chains binding the ship to the dock? That was simple enough; his gun was all he needed.

...

Marine Headquarters.

Inside Fleet Admiral Kong's office at Marine Headquarters, Kong held a new wanted poster.

The face displayed on it belonged to the future Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, though at the time, he was known as Gold Roger.

Staring at the staggering bounty on the newly issued poster, Kong couldn't help but slam his fist heavily on the desk. "A major threat! A major threat, Gold Roger!"

KNOCK, KNOCK...

Hearing the knock at the door, Kong grudgingly suppressed his inner fury. "Come in."

Three government employees in black suits saluted Kong and said, "Fleet Admiral Kong, please come to the scientific research lab. The World Government has an important matter to discuss with you."

"Hm?"

Kong's expression hardened.

For the World Government to personally summon him, it was no small matter. Without further thought, Kong chose to act immediately, rising and heading towards the scientific research facility.

Approximately half an hour later, inside a laboratory constructed entirely of steel, Vegapunk, dressed in a white lab coat, stood beside several high-ranking World Government officials. No, they weren't just high-ranking officials; they were direct agents of the World Government's highest authority, the Five Elders—CP0!

'Even these guys have been mobilized, it's not a small matter,' Kong thought to himself, ignoring the CP0 agents. He had no desire to converse with the World Government's "lapdogs."

Approaching Vegapunk, Kong crossed his arms over his chest and asked, "What's happened?"

"It's more interesting to see it in person than to simply hear about it. Please, Fleet Admiral, and gentlemen of the World Government, come take a look."

Led by Vegapunk, Kong and the three CP0 agents followed him to a large section of specially reinforced, thick glass panels. Looking inside, they saw a massive pit below, or rather, a combat experimentation arena.

When Vegapunk pressed a button, an inner door opened, and what emerged this time caused even the CP0 agents to visibly react.

When Vegapunk pressed a button, the inner door opened. The first to emerge was a massive beast, over seven meters tall, with enormous fangs.

"Is that... the Saber-toothed Lion Nemea?" Kong spoke with a focused expression.

This fierce beast, with a colossal body and teeth far surpassing the extinct Saber-toothed Tiger, and impenetrable fur, had recently been captured by Rear Admiral Kuzan during a battlefield exercise. It was currently under observation as an Impel Down Beast.

If it were to be given a bounty, it should be in the range of 20 to 30 million Berries.

"Fighting it will be this one." Vegapunk said, pressing another button. From the opposite side of Nemea, another door in the combat room opened. This time, what appeared made even the CP0 agents present stir.

What was that thing? Although it wasn't as massive as Nemea, standing between three to four meters tall, its ferocious features, vivid red body, and sharp claws made it look nothing like a creature from this world.

If Alucard or anyone who had witnessed the battle at the Joris Kingdom were to see this scene, they would undoubtedly recognize it, for it bore too striking a resemblance to Cahill after he was successfully infected by the Blacklight Virus!
