Time was tight.
According to Rinjin's plan, the Raikage would inevitably head to the Valley of Clouds and Lightning.
This wasn't just about the Jinchūriki; it was also because the Eight-Tails was undeniably stronger than the Two-Tails.
Moreover, Rinjin had learned through Konoha's ANBU channels a somewhat unreliable piece of information: Kumogakure's Iron Armor Seal was particularly effective against the Eight-Tails but less so against the Two-Tails, making it easier for her to slip away.
A fully combat-ready Eight-Tails and a Two-Tails temporarily unable to fight—anyone with a brain would know which to prioritize.
This was a no-win scenario for the Third Raikage, A. He was bound to make the wrong choice.
Most importantly, the Eight-Tails' Jinchūriki had already begun his transformation!
The Jinchūriki in question was Fukai, the father of Buribi (later known as Killer Bee).
If Rinjin's memory served him correctly, this man was far from a perfect Jinchūriki.
To ensure the Raikage could quickly subdue him, Rinjin manipulated the Jinchūriki's transformation, controlling it through the number of clones he deployed. The goal was to manage the degree of transformation, making it urgent but not unmanageable.
This would buy Rinjin precious time.
From the Valley of Clouds and Lightning to the Thunderclap Temple took twenty minutes. Adding the initial ten minutes spent traveling to the valley, the Raikage would be on the road for thirty minutes.
Rinjin also accounted for five to ten minutes for the Raikage to subdue a partially transformed Eight-Tails Jinchūriki.
Fifteen minutes had already passed. By Rinjin's calculations, the Raikage would arrive at the Thunderclap Temple in another twenty to twenty-five minutes.
Meanwhile, Rinjin's carefully chosen "protagonist," Raimui, was still on a rooftop, sparring with Rinjin's clones alongside the steadily increasing ranks of Kumogakure ninja.
This left Rinjin with only ten to fifteen minutes to release the Two-Tails. After all, he had to give her enough time to showcase her power and make a grand entrance.
He could afford to be quick, but not too quick.
When the Two-Tails finally broke free, the Raikage would be moments away from arriving at the temple.
By then, Raimui would be reduced to ashes in the flames, only to be reborn from them—a hero rising from the inferno to save his comrades.
As the centerpiece of this act, Rinjin had high hopes for Mr. Raimui.
Arrogant and unruly, with no friends to recognize him later, Raimui's lack of close relationships made him an ideal candidate for Rinjin's plan. It minimized the risk of being exposed.
Though only a genin, Raimui's taijutsu was at chunin level—a promising talent.
His recklessness would serve as a crucial element in the unfolding drama.
Ultimately, his arrogance and impetuousness would be incinerated by the overwhelming power of the Two-Tails.
The reborn Raimui would emerge as a young man who had faced the might of a Tailed Beast, stared death in the eye, and awakened to a new sense of purpose after surviving severe injuries.
Having realized the insignificance of his arrogance, he would become quiet and introspective.
Having witnessed unparalleled power, he would yearn for strength more than ever.
Having confronted the deaths of his comrades, he would treasure life and vow to grow stronger to protect his village and friends.
Wasn't this the very essence of Kumogakure's martial spirit?
Standing before the Two-Tails, Rinjin bowed his head slightly, smiling as he murmured to himself:
"Mizuguma-sensei, look at how well I've applied your lessons on blending into a village's culture."
Not far away, the Two-Tails, lounging lazily, suddenly spoke. Her voice was clear and melodic.
"Intruder, you seem… sad?"
Hearing this, Rinjin lifted his head and shook it.
"Yes, I'm very sad. But I'm shaking my head because sadness is my weakness, and I'm not telling you about it!" Rinjin replied playfully.
"Are all humans like you?" Matatabi asked again, but before she could finish, she shook her adorable feline head as if dismissing her own question.
"You feel familiar to me, yet I can't recall why."
"No, something's off! You're not human!"
"Who are you?!"
Her voice grew colder with each word.
But Rinjin's attention was no longer on her. He was busy contemplating how to set her free.
"Right, right, I'm not human. I'm Ōtsutsuki Umbrella, Kaguya's third son!" Rinjin quipped dismissively before noticing that Master Chikū, who had been groaning beneath his feet, had suddenly fallen silent.
"Oh~ Master, you seem to know something, don't you?"
Hearing Rinjin's teasing tone, Master Chikū shook his head frantically, like a rattle drum.
"No, no, no! I know nothing!"
Rinjin didn't press the issue. Time was running out, so he simply made a mental note of his suspicion.
Bending down, he grabbed Master Chikū by the collar and hoisted him up. Pointing to the chains binding the Two-Tails, he asked:
"Master, how do I unlock these chains?"
Master Chikū trembled, his gaze darting nervously toward the Two-Tails. Seeing the icy glare in her eyes, he immediately shook his head, trembling even more.
"I… I don't know."
Rinjin's eyes narrowed. Drawing his massive sword, he placed it against Master Chikū's neck, a sinister grin spreading across his face.
"Master, I'm curious—do you think your neck is as hard as your head?"
With that, Rinjin tightened his grip on the sword, preparing to swing.
It was clear he wasn't bluffing. The murderous intent in his eyes was palpable.
Just then, a cold, haughty female voice rang out from behind him.
"Stop."
Rinjin froze mid-swing. The blade halted mere millimeters from Master Chikū's neck.
"Cut the chains, and I'll be free," Matatabi said.
Rinjin's gaze shifted between Matatabi and Master Chikū, his expression skeptical.
With his sharp intuition, how could he not notice the subtle glance Master Chikū had cast at the Two-Tails earlier?
It was becoming increasingly evident that there was some clandestine connection between the two.
Scanning the chains quickly, Rinjin suddenly smiled and beckoned to Matatabi.
"Hey, kitty~ turn around. Let me see your back."
"What?!" Matatabi's large, adorable eyes widened in shock. Her pupils shrank to pinpoints, and flames erupted around her.
Despite this, she made no move to stand.
"What do you take me for?!" she hissed sharply.
Rinjin chuckled awkwardly.
It was clear this ancient Tailed Beast wasn't as naive as she appeared.
"Ahem, not that kind of 'back.' I meant the other side!" Rinjin clarified, raising his eyebrows and emphasizing his point.
But as anyone who's been in a similar situation knows, such things are impossible to explain clearly.
Seeing Matatabi's continued anger, Rinjin sighed and pulled out his hourglass.
"Alright, drop the act. I was the cat's cradle champion at Little Red Flower Kindergarten. Did you really think I wouldn't notice the extra chain hidden under your belly? Doesn't it bother you?"
Realizing her ruse had been exposed, Matatabi seethed with rage.
This guy was insufferable!
Her fury mounting, Matatabi crouched low, her icy gaze fixed on Rinjin as she prepared to pounce.
In this confined space, she was confident she could easily kill him.
But Rinjin had already pieced everything together.
The subtle glances between Master Chikū and Matatabi, the fact that the supposed prisoner seemed to be in control—it all pointed to one conclusion.
Matatabi wasn't truly bound. The chains were taut because she was holding them in place. Beneath her belly lay the slack she had hidden.
Rinjin's mind raced, connecting the dots.
Matatabi had likely manipulated the Thunderclap Temple's abbot, securing a quiet refuge for herself. When bored, she could sneak out for a stroll. If things got too risky, she could simply hide, relying on Kumogakure's proximity to deter any would-be attackers.
These ancient beings were never simple.
Well, except for Gyūki. That guy probably had more brawn than brains, with all his skill points dumped into muscle.
With the truth laid bare, the solution was clear.
Raising his massive sword once more, Rinjin grinned and pressed it against Master Chikū's neck.
"Matatabi, let's dance!" he declared with a mischievous glint in his eye.
