Chapter 84: Chapter 84: The Death of Ōnoki
When the number of Explosive Tags multiplied into the millions, the gigantic wooden humanoid became a walking missile.
The mere ground it stepped on turned into a sea of fire, not to mention the continuous stream of Explosive Tags erupting from its body.
"Help me!"
"Aaah!"
"It hurts!"
"Glory to Iwagakure! Long live the Tsuchikage!"
"Iwagakure will never fall!"
"Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!"
"Damn you, Konoha!"
Screams, wails, desperate cries for help, defiant roars before death, defensive jutsu unleashed with every ounce of chakra, and curses hurled at Konoha and Tobirama—this was the harsh reality for every Iwa shinobi.
The fiery wooden giant rampaged through Iwagakure, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Its movements brought tremors first, followed by intense bursts of firelight, and ultimately an endless cacophony of explosions.
"Mu-sama… Forgive me. Iwagakure has been destroyed by my own hands…"
Ōnoki, the frail old man, knelt amidst the ruins, clutching a piece of charred stone. Tears, rare for him, streaked his weathered face.
Around him lay nothing but rubble, with no surviving Iwa shinobi in sight.
Regret consumed him—regret for declaring war against Konoha.
"Why? Why is Tobirama so powerful? Why can he still rise after death? Why does Konoha get to have this kind of strength?!"
He pounded the scorched, blistering ground, venting his grief and fury, his fingers red from the heat. The sense of helplessness overwhelmed him, even more profoundly than when he had once faced Madara Uchiha.
At least back then, Madara had merely demonstrated his power to intimidate them. But now, Tobirama was here to annihilate them outright.
"Mu-sama! Ishikawa-sama! I, Ōnoki, have failed Iwagakure!"
(T/N: Ishikawa was the First Tsuchikage who founded Iwagakure in the Land of Earth.)
Standing up, Ōnoki let out a final roar of defiance, his eyes blazing with a deathly resolve as he turned toward the enormous wooden giant, still detonating in a chain of relentless explosions.
With a look of steely determination, Ōnoki prepared himself for death.
"Sensei!"
A familiar voice called out behind him, halting him mid-step. Ōnoki turned to see Akatsuchi, who had returned alone.
The burly man was covered in gruesome wounds, blood seeping from gashes all over his body. Even his Iwa forehead protector was broken in half.
"Akatsuchi? You fool! Didn't I order you to ensure Kurotsuchi and the others evacuated?!" Ōnoki bellowed.
"Sensei, little Kurotsuchi and the others are retreating toward the capital. I… I came back for you!"
The stocky man looked into Ōnoki's eyes with unwavering determination.
"You… Sigh…"
Ōnoki opened his mouth as if to reprimand him but only let out a long sigh.
"My good disciple… Today, the two of us will face death together."
Without further words, Akatsuchi crouched low, and the frail old man climbed onto his broad back. With slow but determined steps, the young man carried his teacher forward.
"Akatsuchi, Konoha has its Will of Fire. Do you know what Iwagakure's Will of Stone is?"
"Nope."
"Stone is the strongest earth. My grandfather once told me that Iwa's Will of Stone was like a broken rock. I used to mock him for it. But after I became Tsuchikage, I finally understood. Endurance and steadfastness—that is the essence of the Will of Stone. I wonder… can Kurotsuchi inherit our Will of Stone? Maybe she'll lead the survivors to rebuild Iwagakure and become the Fourth Tsuchikage. Hahaha…"
Ahead of them stretched an endless sea of flames.
When the Explosive Tags escalated to a scale of billions, even the colossal wooden humanoid, imbued with all of Tobirama's chakra, could no longer keep up with the damage.
A massive explosion roared above Iwagakure, the most devastating yet. Its shockwaves swept across the entire village.
In the sky, once dimly lit by dawn, a crimson hue spread like a fiery curtain draped across the heavens.
The towering wooden figure crumbled slowly, its immense form collapsing amidst the inferno. With a resounding crash, it disintegrated into ash.
As the wooden giant disintegrated, the chained explosions ceased. The catastrophe had finally ended.
All that remained was the smoldering ruin of Iwagakure, shrouded beneath a blood-red sky.
Amidst the searing heat, a few scattered white papers floated down from the air, swiftly reassembling into the form of Tobirama Senju.
Dusting off his robes, Tobirama stood atop a hill at the edge of the devastated village. Even he had been caught in the blast, though the Explosive Tags were tailored to work with Impure World Reincarnation.
Looking out at the blazing wreckage, Tobirama smirked faintly, then sighed.
"If only they had known… Was it worth it?"
With that, his figure flickered and vanished.
Mission: Destroy Iwagakure (Completed).
...
Morning
As scouts from various factions arrived to investigate the massive explosion in Iwagakure, they rubbed their eyes in disbelief at the scene before them.
This… was Iwagakure?!
The once-proud village was now reduced to ruins. The center of the village had caved into an enormous crater, its depths still ablaze.
A long, sunken path wound around the village, as if carved by the footsteps of a giant. Scattered along its length were charred corpses of Iwa shinobi, their death poses eerily similar.
"Did… Did a meteor hit Iwagakure?!"
"Wait, is that… the Tsuchikage?!"
A startled cry drew everyone's attention. They turned toward the source and saw a figure pointing, slack-jawed, at two bodies.
"That… That looks like the Tsuchikage and his disciple!"
Panic spread as they rushed to confirm.
When they realized the charred remains were indeed those of the Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki and Akatsuchi, cold sweat drenched their backs.
"Who… Who could have destroyed Iwagakure and killed the Tsuchikage?!"
"This is a grave matter. We must report it immediately!"
Without lingering to explore the ruins further, the scouts fled the scene, racing to deliver their report.
