Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Revival of Uchiha Madara
Konohagakure - Root's Underground Laboratory
"Hey, snake-face! I've already mastered that technique! Why hasn't that guy shown up yet?"
Hidan twisted his neck after downing the strange liquid Orochimaru handed him. His whole body felt uncomfortably hot.
"What the hell is this stuff? You make me drink it every day!"
Ever since Senju Tobirama handed him over to Orochimaru, Hidan had been forced to practice that forbidden jutsu a hundred times daily, all while drinking that disgusting concoction. If not for Tobirama promising to help spread his faith—and the fact that he couldn't beat Orochimaru—Hidan would've quit long ago.
It was a miracle that someone as talentless in ninjutsu as Hidan had managed to learn One's Own Life Reincarnation, an S-rank forbidden jutsu. Only Orochimaru knew how much effort it had taken.
"Patience. The Hokage has already been informed…" Orochimaru's eerie smile deepened, though he didn't bother explaining what the liquid was.
One's Own Life Reincarnation converts the user's chakra into life force, transferring it to the deceased. If the revived target's chakra reserves were too vast, the life force might be insufficient. To counter this, Orochimaru fed Hidan a daily dose of concentrated Hashirama cells, enhancing his chakra reserves.
After all, Hidan was immortal—he could handle it.
With his chakra sealed, Hidan couldn't even sense the changes in his body.
"Ugh, that laugh is disgusting," Hidan grumbled, baring his teeth before turning away from Orochimaru.
Soon, a group of people entered the dimly lit lab, bringing an unusual liveliness to the eerie space.
"Granduncle, didn't you say we'd witness someone coming back from the dead? Why are we in this creepy place?"
Tsunade frowned, covering her nose as a faintly reptilian scent filled the air.
Before Tobirama could reply, she understood why.
"Hokage-sama, you've arrived."
Emerging from the shadows, Orochimaru greeted Senju Tobirama with an unusually warm smile, a stark contrast to his former cold demeanor. It was a testament to how deeply Kotoamatsukami had altered him.
Notably, the pair of Sharingan Orochimaru had taken from Itachi had already been returned. Itachi, however, chose not to implant them yet, intending to pass them on to Sasuke once he was older and ready to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō.
"Orochimaru, what the hell are you doing here?"
Tsunade's expression darkened upon seeing him. She'd been furious when she learned about Orochimaru's experiments involving her grandfather and granduncle's souls, and she had wanted to flay him alive.
"Tsunade, Orochimaru is on our side now."
Tobirama stepped in, pulling her to his side to prevent any further hostility.
"He's on our side? Hmph…" Tsunade huffed but didn't press further.
"Tsunade, you haven't changed a bit," Orochimaru said with a chuckle.
"Hokage-sama, everything is ready," Orochimaru reported, his tone suddenly serious as he turned to Tobirama.
"Good. Bring him in."
Tobirama nodded.
The cryptic exchange between Tobirama and Orochimaru only deepened everyone's confusion.
Before long, Orochimaru brought Hidan into the room.
"Finally decided to remember me, huh, old man? But what's with all these people?"
Hidan felt a little uneasy under the scrutinizing gazes of the crowd.
"Isn't that… the immortal lunatic from the Akatsuki?" Nara Shikaku rubbed his chin, recognizing Hidan. He couldn't fathom why this man was necessary for a resurrection ritual.
"Madara, step forward. It's time for your revival," Tobirama said, pulling Uchiha Madara toward the center of the room.
"My revival?" Madara asked, bewildered.
"I know what you're thinking. Right now, we need a test subject. Success isn't guaranteed," Tobirama explained, reading Madara's confusion.
"Hidan, come here. Use One's Own Life Reincarnation on him."
Hidan's expression flickered, a storm of thoughts flashing in his mind.
"Your promise still stands?" he asked hesitantly.
"It does," Tobirama replied coolly.
Only after hearing those words did Hidan reluctantly step forward. Forming a series of hand signs, Tobirama released the seal on Hidan's chakra and stepped back to observe.
"When did I get so much chakra?" Hidan muttered, feeling the immense energy surging within him. He quickly shrugged off the thought, focusing on the task.
Standing before Madara, whose body was riddled with cracks, Hidan couldn't help but feel a flicker of unease.
This technique was a life-for-life exchange. Even though he was immortal, he still felt a pang of fear.
But the thought of reviving a thousand people and leading the Jashin faith to greatness reignited his determination. Hidan formed the necessary seals and pressed his hands to Madara's chest.
"One's Own Life Reincarnation!"
Madara remained expressionless, silently observing Hidan's actions.
In an instant, Hidan's chakra surged through his hands, glowing with a dim blue light.
Orochimaru's eyes gleamed with excitement as he crouched nearby, furiously jotting notes in a small notebook.
Transforming chakra into life force—it was a phenomenon he had never seen before!
The rest of the onlookers were equally captivated, their gazes locked on the scene. No one dared blink, fearing they might miss something crucial.
Hidan's face contorted as the jutsu took effect.
His once-healthy complexion rapidly deteriorated—his skin grew sallow, his eyes dimmed, and his hair turned brittle. Dark circles formed beneath his eyes as his body trembled, barely able to stay upright.
"I… I can't… I'm gonna…"
Hidan panicked, feeling his immortality falter. He instinctively wanted to stop the technique but found he couldn't. Helpless, he watched his life force drain away.
Meanwhile, Madara's condition visibly improved.
His lifeless eyes regained their sharpness, his skin grew flush with color, and the cracks on his body began to heal. The telltale marks of Edo Tensei gradually faded away.
His heart began to beat, blood coursing through his veins. A broad smile spread across Madara's face.
He was alive.
"Lord Jashin… save me…"
Hidan murmured weakly before collapsing to the floor.
Orochimaru quickly stepped forward, pressing two fingers to Hidan's nose. He turned to Tobirama and nodded.
"He's still breathing, Hokage-sama."
Tobirama let out a sigh of relief. Hidan's immortality had proven reliable after all.
"Hahahaha! Tobirama! I'm truly alive!"
Madara laughed heartily, raising his arms in triumph.
The group quickly surrounded him, examining him in disbelief.
"He's really alive!"
Tsunade prodded Madara's legs, feeling the warmth of his body. A joyful smile spread across her face. She understood all too well what Madara's revival meant.
"Using One's Own Life Reincarnation with Hidan's immortality—it's simply…" Shikaku's eyes widened in shock, unable to fully grasp the implications.
The others, though silent, shared his astonishment.
