Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Snake Catcher’s Gamble
Orochimaru knew there was no way to escape alone, so he decided to stay and test Kirito's strength.
While Orochimaru had collected intelligence on Kirito in the past, the pieces hadn't come together until recently. After the "Konoha Crush" incident, Kabuto and others had reported how Kirito single-handedly subdued Gaara and a three-headed snake. Orochimaru had immediately ordered his spies to gather every scrap of information about him.
When he learned that Kirito was Tsunade's apprentice and possessed multiple kekkei genkai, Orochimaru's interest had peaked.
"If he's suitable... he could become my next vessel," Orochimaru mused, his gaze fixed on Kirito. If he could implant a curse mark on Kirito, he was confident he could eventually turn him to his side.
The battlefield between Kirito and Orochimaru was strangely calm compared to the chaotic skirmish within Team Seven. After sending Orochimaru flying with a punch, Kirito stood still, watching Orochimaru with an unreadable expression.
This composed demeanor left Orochimaru hesitant to make the first move. Yet, he knew he couldn't afford to let time slip away.
"Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!" Orochimaru extended his arms, releasing a swarm of venomous snakes that lunged toward Kirito from multiple angles.
But before the snakes could reach him, a cold wind swept across the battlefield. Frost formed on the snakes' scales, freezing them mid-air in vicious, snarling poses.
Kirito spoke calmly. "I was watching Sasuke and Naruto earlier... almost forgot about you."
With a casual gesture, Kirito raised his hand, and thick branches erupted from the frozen ground. They snaked toward Orochimaru's legs, attempting to entangle him.
Sensing danger, Orochimaru leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the grasping branches. But as he ascended, Kirito raised his other hand and slammed it downward.
Boom!
Massive wooden torii gates materialized from above, pinning Orochimaru to the ground with unerring precision.
As Orochimaru struggled beneath the weight of the gates, the branches closed in, wrapping around his body like constricting vines. He felt his chakra and strength being drained rapidly.
"This Wood Release... it's approaching the level of the First Hokage!"
Desperate, Orochimaru opened his mouth, spitting out a snake that wielded a sharp blade. The snake struck at the branches, but the blade barely left a scratch before bouncing off.
With no escape, Orochimaru found himself immobilized. Glaring up at Kirito, he muttered, "I underestimated you... I didn't expect you to know the Myojinmon of the Uzumaki clan."
The Myojinmon was a sealing technique so advanced that it was reserved for suppressing tailed beasts and other calamities. Few within the Uzumaki clan had mastered it.
Kirito remained silent, his calm expression unchanged.
Orochimaru sighed, realizing the futility of resistance. "Fine. You win this time... but don't think this is the end."
On the other side of the battlefield, Sasuke's confidence faltered as he witnessed Orochimaru's defeat. He had always considered Orochimaru's survival skills unparalleled—yet here he was, subdued with startling ease.
If Orochimaru is captured... what happens to my plan?
Sasuke had been holding back, unwilling to reveal his full strength in front of Orochimaru. His ultimate goal was to betray and absorb Orochimaru when the time was right. But now, with Orochimaru captured, Sasuke realized he had no choice but to fight seriously.
"If Kirito joins this fight, I'll have no chance to escape," Sasuke thought, glancing at Kirito.
Clicking his tongue in frustration, Sasuke forced Naruto back with a swing of his sword.
"Good job, Kirito!" Naruto shouted, emboldened by Kirito's success. "Let's finish this battle!"
"Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
With a series of loud pops, dozens of Naruto clones materialized, surrounding Sasuke in layers.
Sasuke's eyes narrowed, his Sharingan spinning with intent. The lightning of Chidori flared in his hand, growing brighter by the second.
"Kakashi, something's wrong!" Sakura shouted as Kakashi tensed.
"Chidori Sharp Spear!"
A blade of lightning extended from Sasuke's hand, piercing through the wall of clones in a single, sweeping motion. The clones dissipated in bursts of smoke as Sasuke swung the spear in a graceful arc, clearing the battlefield around him.
Sakura and Kakashi leaped back, narrowly avoiding the deadly strike.
"Sasuke!" Sakura cried out in alarm as she watched Naruto struggle to stand amid the smoke.
Hearing Naruto's cough, Sasuke's Chidori flared once more, and he lunged toward him.
But Kakashi moved swiftly, intercepting Sasuke mid-charge. Gripping Sasuke's wrist, he blocked the Chidori while deflecting the Kusanagi blade with a kunai in his other hand.
Their gazes met, Sharingan against Sharingan.
"Sasuke," Kakashi said, his voice heavy with disappointment. "If you intend to kill, then as your teacher, I won't hold back."
"You think you can kill me?" Sasuke growled, his frustration boiling over.
Dark marks spread across Sasuke's body as the Curse Mark activated. His skin turned gray, and black, cross-shaped lines marred his face.
"Sasuke..." Sakura whispered, horrified by his monstrous transformation.
"You've truly fallen, Sasuke," Kakashi muttered, his Sharingan morphing into the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Kirito observed the scene from afar, his gaze sharp. Orochimaru's defeat and Sasuke's transformation painted a clear picture.
"This is it—their breaking point."
As the cursed Sasuke clashed with Kakashi, the battlefield grew more volatile, and the lines between old comrades and enemies blurred.
