Naruto: The Tale of an Otsutsuki

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: The Civil War of Team Seven

Ever since receiving Tsunade's mission to retrieve Sasuke, Kirito had been mulling over whether bringing Sasuke back to Konoha was the right decision.

He ultimately decided it was.

Two years ago, Kirito had let Sasuke leave with Orochimaru, believing that no one in Konoha could provide Sasuke the power and guidance he sought for his revenge. According to the original trajectory of events, Sasuke gained most of his strength during those years under Orochimaru's tutelage.

Kirito recalled how Sasuke had later fought Deidara, Itachi, Killer Bee, Danzo, and others without much opportunity for further training. It was clear that the foundation for his strength came from those two years with Orochimaru.

But the current Sasuke was different from the hardened avenger of the future. Kirito believed that Naruto's ability to connect with people could still sway Sasuke's heart—if they could bring him back first.

"It's really shameless," Orochimaru said with a sly smile, his voice dripping with mockery. "I know who you are—Kirito, the Hyuga outcast, Tsunade's prized apprentice. But what I'm more curious about is your connection with Sasori."

Orochimaru had noticed Kirito recover Sasori's puppet and could not shake the ominous conclusion forming in his mind.

Kirito calmly retrieved the split iron sand that Sasuke had severed earlier and replied, "I captured Sasori. I plan to send you to keep him company."

Orochimaru's expression darkened as the realization struck him: he and Kabuto had spent the entire battle against nothing more than a puppet. But something didn't add up—he hadn't detected the telltale chakra threads used by puppet masters.

While Orochimaru puzzled over this, Kirito cracked his knuckles. "As we discussed earlier, Sasuke is yours to handle," he said to Team Seven, "but Orochimaru is mine."

Team Seven would have to handle Sasuke. It was their unfinished business as former comrades, and only they could resolve it.

Initially, Kakashi had opposed the idea of Kirito facing Orochimaru alone. Orochimaru was, after all, powerful enough to kill the Third Hokage. But Kirito had stood firm, offering two main reasons:

Anyone from Team Seven who joined him would inevitably be distracted by Sasuke, unable to focus fully on the battle. Orochimaru's strength and cunning required precision and skill—anyone not on Kirito's level would only get in the way.

"Be careful," Kakashi finally said, as he and the others prepared themselves for the inevitable clash with Sasuke.

The icy field grew tense as everyone braced for action.

Boom!

Without warning, Kirito blurred into motion, appearing in front of Orochimaru and slamming a fist into his face. The sheer force distorted Orochimaru's features and sent him crashing into a rock wall.

"When?!" Sasuke's Sharingan widened in shock as he turned his gaze toward Kirito.

In that moment of distraction, Kakashi lunged at Sasuke, a kunai held in reverse grip, while Naruto created four shadow clones, two of which began forming a Rasengan in his outstretched hand.

Sasuke spun, blocking Kakashi's kunai strike with the Kusanagi sword. Two of Naruto's clones closed in from either side, but before they could reach him, Sasuke unleashed a sudden burst of lightning.

"Chidori Nagashi!"

Blue lightning crackled outward from Sasuke's body, paralyzing Kakashi and dispelling Naruto's clones instantly.

Bang! Bang! The clones popped out of existence, but Naruto himself leapt over Kakashi's frozen form, Rasengan in hand, and aimed straight for Sasuke.

Sasuke dodged with a fluid sidestep, narrowly avoiding the spinning sphere of chakra, and flipped away to create distance.

But before he could land, Sakura appeared in his path, her fist raised.

"Take this!"

Her punch barreled toward him, but Sasuke's Sharingan caught her movements. Locking eyes with her, he froze her in place with a fleeting genjutsu.

Sakura's body stiffened, her eyes dazed. Sasuke seized the opening, grabbing her wrist and delivering a swift kick to her torso, sending her flying.

"Sakura!" Naruto yelled, rushing forward only to meet the same fate as Sasuke kicked him aside with ease.

Kakashi re-engaged Sasuke, his kunai clashing with the electrified Kusanagi sword. The two exchanged blows, neither gaining the upper hand, as Naruto and Sakura recovered to join the fray.

From a distance, Kirito watched the chaotic scuffle with a faint smile.

"I told them—beating Sasuke senseless and dragging him back was the most efficient way," he mused. "But it looks like they can't bring themselves to go all out."

Naruto, Kakashi, and Sakura clearly hesitated to harm Sasuke, while Sasuke himself toyed with them, using his Sharingan to outmaneuver their attacks and counter with precision. Whenever Sasuke attempted to use a powerful technique to clear the battlefield, Kakashi skillfully interrupted him, prolonging the fight.

"Hehehe... Sasuke won't go back with them," Orochimaru sneered as he emerged from the rubble, his body covered in slime as it healed from Kirito's punch.

"I know," Kirito replied nonchalantly. "That's why I'll take you back too. Buy one, get one free."

Orochimaru's grin faltered, replaced by a wary frown. The punch had revealed Kirito's overwhelming strength—speed that defied even the Sharingan's perception and raw power surpassing Tsunade's legendary strength.

Orochimaru considered his options. With his hands sealed and his current body deteriorating, he knew he wasn't a match for Kirito in a one-on-one fight.

But running wasn't an option either. If he left Sasuke behind, Team Seven would undoubtedly capture him, delaying Orochimaru's long-awaited reincarnation plan.

He had waited too long, endured too much, to let his prize slip away now.

Orochimaru clenched his fists. "Even if it costs me everything... I won't lose Sasuke."
