Naruto: The Medical Shinobi

"If it does not exist, then we can make it." Ryu said.

Itachi was dumbfounded. He had never met someone with such a positive and determined attitude before.

"The chemistry lab has been set up and is ready for its 1st experiment." Ryu declared.

They shifted from the office to the lab, where Ryu began working and first memorised the list of current lab inventories.

Ryu thought, "There are a few missing for this particular purpose, but I know how to make their alternatives."

Ryu retrieved two gas masks from a box and gave one to Itachi. "Safety first. Some chemicals in this lab are hazardous, and the end product we're creating is risky. Please wear this for protection."

Itachi asked, "What are you trying to make? Should you be working with such dangerous chemicals?"

Ryu replied, "Relax; I know what I am doing. I have been given full access to this lab for a reason. I am not playing around."

He then started working on his first thing to defend against the unique ability of Obito's Mangekyou Sharingan.

Ryu replied, "I am trying to make a paralytic agent with delayed effects and its antidote. It will be tasteless and odourless. After that, I try making an aerosol, also without any smell, that burns very rapidly when dispersed in air without giving time to this ghost to think."

Ryu said all this without looking at Itachi, fully immersed in the chemical in front of him. Mixing them, boiling them, and more mixing all happen in a complex system of beakers, tubes, and flasks, which Itachi looked at with fascination.

Itachi asked, "Why are you making it in the first place? Didn't you just ask hypocritical questions? Such a ghostlike ability does not exist."

Ryu wondered what excuse he needed to give. He then said, "Maybe you are right. Maybe not. How can we be sure?"

Ryu looked at Itachi and said, "Now that we have figured out the answers to these hypothetical questions, we can at least make sure the answers are not hypothetical but real. And also, you get to see this new lab in action."

After an hour, Ryu had prepared the paralytic agent and had stored it in the flask.

Ryu stated, "I have divided the substance in such a way that each dose is not life-threatening even if used in full quantity."

Itachi looked at the vial filled with liquid. Itachi said, "You said gas earlier."

Ryu replied, "I know; it's in its liquid form for now. I can make it gaseous and store it in a fuinjutsu seal like a smoke bomb."

Ryu continued, "Now that we have made the paralytic agent, we need to work on its antidote. It's not a life-threatening poison, but to make sure accidents do not happen, having an antidote is wise. We are also going to test both of them."

Ryu started working on an antidote, and he was done in an hour. He said, "Now we have both. Let's test them. You got animals in your training ground; we can test these on."

Itachi replied, "Yes, there are many in our family's private training grounds."

Ryu said, "I am not a fan of animal experimentation, but the top apex always eats the bottom feeders. Such is the cycle of life God has made. At least we are not testing useless cosmetics but some lifesaving drugs."

Itachi replied, "If I believe it is what you say it is. How is that a lifesaving drug?"

Ryu replied, "You think I am making a chemical weapon, but I am not. They are just tools. I can use it to save lives if I put my mind to it or the other way around." 

He continued, "Paralytic agents can be used in surgery to reduce blood flow and provide time in emergencies like poisoning, deep cuts, burns, or severe blood loss. Additionally, they can serve as effective pain management tools during critical medical situations."

Itachi listened to the explanation and nodded.

Ryu continued, "Itachi-san, nothing is ever a weapon in itself. In the hands of a person and with the proper intentions, something becomes a weapon. A kitchen knife, for example."

Itachi understood and said, "You are right."

They went outside of their home, unaware that Ryu's new secretary had been listening to their conversation from the start. She was not there to spy on them, but the Hokage selected her to protect him, and she was bound to hear some things. She was already told that he is very smart, but she was amazed when she witnessed it firsthand.

In a small forest within the Uchiha clan's training ground, they caught a big boar with the trap that Itachi had set up.

"You are really good at setting up traps," Ryu said. "And this boar will be more suitable than the rabbit that I had in mind for this experience."

"Thank you, Father taught me how to make traps," Itachi said proudly.

Ryu said, "Ok, judging by its size, we can assume its weight to be the same as that of a human adult. Then we can use the full quantity."

Ryu then took the vial and jumped back and said, "I will throw the vial on Mr. Boar. You smash it with a stone when it is near him. The agent vaporises rapidly when it comes into contact with air, so maintain a safe distance."

He threw the vial, and it exploded when Itachi threw a stone at it. and soon the boar was covered in an invisible smoke of the paralytic gas. The boar struggled, trapped in the ropes, but when the delayed effects kicked in, it went goodnight.

Itachi said, "Either the paralytic gas worked, or it is dead. I can't tell which it is from this distance."

Ryu replied, "The gas is gone; let's check it out."

They went near it, and Itachi observed the boar and said, "There is a faint heartbeat, very slow, but it is there."

Ryu replied, "Ok, let's test how long its effects last without an antidote."

They waited, and the effects lasted for about 20 minutes. Ryu said, "Nap time is over for him. Let's release him now."

"Don't you need to test antidotes also?" Itachi asked.

"Well, not on this one," Ryu said. "If I am to test it properly, I need a new test subject because this one is now already exposed. We need a clean subject."

Itachi was also smart and understood and said, "Let's find his siblings then."

They quickly found another test subject, exposed it to the paralytic agent, and administered the antidote, observing its effects. A minute after being exposed to the antidote, the boar stood up angrily, like it was woken up before a full nap.

Itachi said, "It worked."

Ryu smiled and replied, "Yes, now let's go back and make that other weapon. And this one will not require animal testing."

We went back in the lab, and the explosive was also made in an hour or so. Ryu carefully filled it in a small round flask.

Ryu said, "Ok, it will disperse within seconds when the flask breaks and will automatically burn itself after a few seconds. Ready to test it again."

Ryu went to a separate lab and placed the flask on a stand as a target. 

"Will you do the honours?" Ryu asked Itachi.

Itachi took out a kunai and threw it on the flask. The moment it broke, the inside gushed out like invisible air, and a second later it burnt like crazy. engulfing an area around the target in bright flames. 

"It worked very effectively. Our ghost is in for a big surprise." Itachi said.

Ryu took out the vials containing both the poison and its antidote and the explosive, all clearly labelled, and said, "Here, take this. Consider it a gift. Use it well."

Itachi accepted the gift. They had a lengthy discussion in the office, during which Ryu shared his vision of transforming the world by amassing wealth, influence, and supporters to further his mission.

Itachi listened attentively, his eyes reflecting admiration for Ryu's aspirations. He was very envious of the conviction Ryu had and hoped that he would also have the same conviction in his life too.

Itachi even shared his own insecurities before he had awakened his Sharingan. Itachi thanked him, and Ryu replied, "What are friends for? Come to me if you ever need a friend."

Itachi left and reached his home; his father was there to greet him. He asked, "Where were you?"

Itachi replied, "I was with a friend."

"But Shisui was with me. Which friend then?" Fugaku asked.

Itachi replied, "I was with Ryu-san."

"Ryu Hamura?" Fugaku muttered in surprise, "You two are friends now?"

"I did not expect him to be so open-minded considering what Kenji and Akira are doing to him," Fugaku said.

"Oh, he is very minded and open-minded," Itachi said, surprising Fugaku more with his praises of Ryu.

"Mom, I am hungry." Itachi spoke and took his exit from further questioning.

Fugaku sighed. He had more questions about Ryu, but he was hesitant to ruin this new friendship now.

Elsewhere, a ninja in ANBU attire was briefing Hiruzen Sarutobi, the third Hokage. 

Hiruzen thought, "So he can also make chemical weapons in addition to medicine. He is not wrong to address them as tools. But he should not have given them to Itachi. No matter how responsible he is, he is still a child."
