Naruto: Tenseigan Eye

Chapter 359: Chapter 359: Have You Eaten?

The Third Raikage knew the Eight-Tails well—perhaps too well. The scar across his chest was a testament to his battle with the rampaging beast, a fight that had left both man and tailed beast utterly drained.

But this scar wasn't from the Eight-Tails. It was self-inflicted when the Raikage had to seal the beast to prevent greater destruction.

So when the ninja monitoring the seal reported an urgent situation, the Raikage immediately perked up.

"Lord Raikage, the seal is stable for now. It's Killer Bee himself, but… he's unusually subdued," the ninja reported anxiously.

"What caused it?" the Raikage demanded.

Killer Bee, known for his vibrant and eccentric personality, was now sitting quietly, looking completely defeated—like a frost-bitten eggplant wilting in the sun.

"It started suddenly, around two in the afternoon," the ninja replied hesitantly.

At this, Dodai, standing to the side, interjected, "Lord Raikage, I think I might know what caused the Eight-Tails' restlessness."

The Raikage turned to him sharply. "Speak."

Dodai bowed slightly and began, "The disturbance coincides with the time when Konoha's group, led by Hyuga Shinki, entered the canyon. While there's no direct evidence, it's likely that the Nine-Tails' presence disturbed the Eight-Tails."

The Raikage froze. "Damn it!"

He regretted opening the canyon to visitors. His intention had been to leave a good impression on Shinki and pave the way for future collaboration—particularly to learn the secrets of a perfect Jinchūriki. But as soon as the group entered, the Eight-Tails had reacted.

"Go stabilize the situation immediately," the Raikage commanded, waving the monitoring ninja away. Turning back to Dodai, he added, "Ensure they're watched closely but discreetly. Did Hyuga Shinki or his companions do anything unusual?"

"No, Lord Raikage," Dodai replied. "They seemed aware of the Eight-Tails' presence but didn't pay it much attention. They walked through the canyon like normal tourists, stopping to admire the scenery and leaving without incident."

The Raikage sighed in relief. "Good. As long as they didn't provoke the Eight-Tails, we can't blame them. This is on us for opening the area to visitors."

Still, the Raikage's jealousy burned. He envied Konoha's ability to produce prodigies like Shinki, and the fact that Kushina was a perfect Jinchūriki only deepened that envy.

The Raikage Visits Shinki

After issuing instructions to stabilize the Eight-Tails, the Raikage decided to address the matter directly. He left his office and sought out Shinki, who was currently having lunch with his group.

They had just started their meal when the Raikage arrived.

"Are you eating?" Shinki asked casually, glancing at the imposing figure as though he were any other guest.

The Raikage blinked, momentarily thrown off by the question. "Yes—" he began but then reconsidered. "No, I haven't."

"Then join us," Shinki offered with a grin. "We can talk about the Eight-Tails while we eat."

Surprised but unwilling to turn down the opportunity, the Raikage sat down. Uchiha Mikoto, ever the considerate one, immediately stood to request additional dishes for their guest.

Over Lunch

As the Raikage began to eat, Shinki spoke, "So, is this about making Killer Bee a perfect Jinchūriki?"

The Raikage nodded. "That's the plan. I'll personally lead an envoy to Konoha to negotiate. If your village's conditions are acceptable, I think we can cooperate."

Kushina perked up, but Shinki gave her a subtle glance, signaling her to stay calm.

"You might have to wait," Shinki said after a moment.

"Why?" the Raikage asked, genuinely puzzled. The sooner they started, the better for the Cloud Village.

Shinki smirked. "Because I'm the only one in Konoha who truly understands the process. Kushina herself is still figuring it out, and the rest of the village knows little. You'll have to talk to me, but I'll be busy traveling to other nations for a while."

The Raikage's jaw tightened, but he quickly regained his composure. "I'll wait. The Cloud Village is prepared to offer substantial terms to secure this knowledge."

Shinki leaned back, his expression unreadable. "It's not just about terms, Raikage-sama. If we're going to cooperate, we need trust—and that takes time to build."

The Raikage nodded solemnly. "Agreed. If trust is what it takes, the Cloud Village is willing to make the effort."

A Strategic Pause

As they continued their meal, the Raikage couldn't help but admire Shinki's calm confidence. This was no ordinary ninja. If the Cloud Village wanted to secure an alliance with Konoha—and learn the secrets of the perfect Jinchūriki—they would need to play their cards carefully.

Meanwhile, Shinki saw the Raikage's envy and ambition as clearly as the midday sun. He knew the Cloud Village coveted Konoha's secrets, but he also understood the importance of maintaining a balance of power.

"Let's hope they're willing to cooperate without stepping over the line," Shinki thought, glancing at Kushina. For now, diplomacy prevailed, but he remained vigilant. After all, in the world of ninja, today's ally could easily become tomorrow's enemy.
