Chapter 358: Chapter 358: The Raikage being a Tour Guide?
Dodai could only groan inwardly, biting his tongue to keep from saying anything out loud. While the Third Raikage wouldn't punish him for speaking his mind, there were some things best left unsaid—like the absurdity of the current situation.
The Third Raikage skimmed the intelligence report once again.
"Strange… is this guy really just here for fun?" he muttered.
Initially, the Raikage had assumed that Hyuga Shinki—head of Konoha's Anbu—was on a covert mission in the Land of Lightning, possibly even within Cloud Ninja Village itself. Such a scenario would have been a serious diplomatic incident, given the delicate relationships between the five great ninja villages.
But everything pointed to something far less sinister. Shinki's movements suggested a leisurely trip rather than an official mission. His group stopped frequently, purchased local specialties, and appeared to be sightseeing.
"Is the head of Konoha's Anbu really this free?" Dodai muttered under his breath. "Touring with a group of girls while the Daimyo's nobles are assassinated back home? That's… bold."
The Raikage chuckled, tossing the file onto his desk. "Keep an eye on them. As long as they don't do anything harmful to the village or the Land of Lightning, let them be. After all, the Cloud Ninja Village welcomes guests from all over to visit and spend money."
"Understood," Dodai replied, turning to leave.
"Wait!" the Raikage called out suddenly.
"Yes, Lord Raikage?"
"Send additional personnel to monitor them closely, especially within the village. On second thought, I'll handle some of the arrangements myself," the Raikage said, his tone serious.
Dodai blinked in confusion but quickly nodded.
The Raikage couldn't shake the thought of Shinki's infamous puppets. What if this "tour" was a ruse to plant them across the village? Better to be cautious than regretful later.
A Curious Journey
As Shinki's group approached Cloud Ninja Village, it became increasingly obvious that they were being watched. The ninjas attempting to stay hidden didn't fool Shinki for a second.
"Shinki, there are people watching us," Kushina whispered nervously. She had noticed them thanks to the Nine-Tails alerting her to their presence.
"It's fine," Shinki replied casually, patting her head. "Given who I am, it'd be strange if they didn't watch us. Don't worry about it—just enjoy yourself."
Kushina nodded hesitantly but couldn't entirely relax. Shinki, on the other hand, was unconcerned. If the Cloud Village ninjas hadn't reacted at all, he would have been suspicious. Their vigilance was entirely reasonable.
As they entered the village outskirts, Shinki spotted a market stall selling the famed veal of the Land of Lightning.
"The veal here is supposed to be amazing," Shinki said, pausing to examine the goods. "We'll have to taste some. If it's as good as they say, we might even buy more to send back to Konoha."
"Buy more? Won't it spoil?" Kushina asked, tilting her head.
"Simple," Shinki replied with a smirk. "We'll hire Cloud Ninja to deliver it to Konoha. It's just a matter of spending money."
Kushina's eyes sparkled at the idea. "Really? Then let's buy a hundred cows! Imagine Cloud Ninja driving cattle all the way to Konoha. That'd be hilarious!"
Shinki laughed. "Exactly. Spending money to hire ninjas from another village? Now that's an experience."
From a distance, the Third Raikage overheard this exchange as he stood near the village gates. His eye twitched uncontrollably.
Did they just say a hundred cows?
He'd seen outsiders buy beef from the Land of Lightning before, but never like this. The idea of Cloud Ninja escorting livestock across the continent left him utterly speechless.
An Awkward Meeting
The group finally reached the gates, where the towering figure of the Third Raikage awaited them. Shinki approached with his usual calm confidence, leaving the girls to their chatter behind him.
"Good day, Senior," Shinki said, addressing the Raikage respectfully. "It seems someone important is visiting Cloud Ninja Village today. What an honor to see you here personally."
The Raikage's jaw tightened. Is this kid playing dumb?
"You're the important guest," the Raikage said bluntly. "I'm here to welcome you."
"Ah, I see. Then it's an honor," Shinki said with a grin. "But I must say, Raikage-sama, are you here to be our tour guide? This is my first time in the Cloud Ninja Village, and I've heard there are sights here you can't find anywhere else."
The Raikage stared at him, utterly dumbfounded.
"T-Tour guide?" Dodai, standing nearby, stammered. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. The Third Raikage, as a tour guide? The sheer audacity of the suggestion left him at a loss for words.
Shinki maintained his cheerful demeanor. "It would be a great honor to have the Raikage show us around. I'm sure no one knows the village better than you."
The Raikage rubbed his temples, trying to maintain his composure. "Shinki, I'm the Raikage, not a guide."
"But no one else could give us a better introduction to the village," Shinki replied smoothly.
For a moment, the Raikage considered tossing Shinki out of the village altogether, but the absurdity of the situation was almost amusing. Taking a deep breath, he crossed his arms.
"Fine. If you want to see the village, I'll make sure you're escorted properly. But don't expect me to hold your hand."
"Of course," Shinki replied with a polite bow. "I'm looking forward to it."
As the group moved into the village, the Raikage turned to Dodai. "Keep an eye on them. And make sure the village is ready—this kid may be smiling, but I'm not convinced he's only here to play."
"Understood, Lord Raikage," Dodai said, though inwardly he marveled at Shinki's nerve.
A Tour Unlike Any Other
As the group toured the village under the watchful eyes of Cloud Ninja, Shinki seemed genuinely intent on exploring. Whether it was sampling local delicacies, purchasing souvenirs, or marveling at the village's unique architecture, he treated the trip as nothing more than a casual vacation.
But the Raikage remained wary. Whether Shinki was here to plant puppets or simply to play, he wouldn't let his guard down.
