Naruto: Reborn in His Younger Self

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Sasuke's Will

White Zetsu Army Base

Obito emerged from the space-time vortex, nearly losing his balance from the force of his landing due to Naruto's earlier impact.

A rustling sound came from the ground nearby.

Black Zetsu and White Zetsu, resembling aloe vera plants, crawled out.

White Zetsu: "The latest news is that Naruto, the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki from Konoha, has defected from the village. Moreover, he seems to have aligned himself with the Six Paths of Pain from our Akatsuki organization, and even attacked Sasuke, who went to capture the Eight-Tails, with a group of people!"

Black Zetsu: "I don't understand what this Nine-Tails boy is doing, but this could work in our favor. We can capture the Nine-Tails more easily now."

White Zetsu: "But, according to reports from Sasuke, Naruto seems to be wearing the Akatsuki cloak, and Six Paths of Pain seems to be working with him!"

Black Zetsu frowned, saying, "That's impossible. That kid, Nagato..."

Obito interrupted, his voice cold, "Nagato has betrayed the Akatsuki Organization."

Black Zetsu and White Zetsu both exclaimed in shock, "How could that be possible?!"

Obito's eyes narrowed as he processed the situation. Naruto already knew his true identity, and it seemed like he knew everything about his past.

How was that possible?

Could Kakashi have leaked it?

No, Kakashi thought he was dead, and there was no way he could have told Naruto that. If Kakashi knew, he should have recognized him when they met in the Land of Iron. That fool had shown no sign of recognition.

The more Obito thought about it, the more confused he became. Naruto's behavior had already been puzzling, but now this—it made no sense.

Now, it seemed that Naruto knew his true identity, which raised further questions. Did Naruto figure it out on his own, or did the higher-ups in Konoha know as well?

Black Zetsu said, "The Rinnegan is still in Nagato's possession. If Nagato betrays the Akatsuki and we lose control of him, the Rinnegan could fall into the hands of others."

Obito nodded grimly. The Rinnegan was a key component of his plan, and nothing could go wrong.

However, Obito couldn't afford to go to Rain Village just yet. He needed to investigate Naruto further, or he wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

White Zetsu looked at Obito and said, "The only good news is that Sasuke seems to have successfully captured the Eight-Tails."

Obito paused, a little confused, "After the battle with Naruto, does he still have the energy for this?"

White Zetsu explained, "After fighting Naruto, Sasuke seems to have grown. His Susanoo evolved completely, but his power was overdrawn. After resting, he forced himself to go after the Eight-Tails."

Obito smirked coldly, "Finally, some good news."

After thinking for a moment, Obito decided to go personally retrieve Sasuke. After all, there were too many unstable factors in play right now.

"Where are they now?" Obito asked.

White Zetsu responded, "They are on their way to the designated meeting point. They should arrive soon."

Obito smiled, "Then I'll go meet our hero."

With that, Obito activated his space-time ninjutsu and vanished from the spot.

Sasuke sat heavily on the ground, breathing labored breaths. Beside him lay Killer Bee, burned by Amaterasu.

With Sasuke's help, Jugo had recovered as before. He was holding the unconscious Karin in one hand and Suigetsu, now in a jelly-like state, in the other. They were the human cannon from the Eight-Tails' capture.

Sasuke muttered, "We need to hurry, the meeting point is just ahead."

As he prepared to lift Killer Bee, a voice stopped him.

"No need, Sasuke. I'm here."

Suddenly, Obito emerged from the space-time vortex. Upon seeing Killer Bee on the ground, Obito smiled, "Very good. I believe in you, Sasuke. You've done well."

Sasuke snorted, his voice cold, "As promised, I brought the Eight-Tails."

Obito nodded, clearly pleased with the result.

Once Sasuke saw the agreement had been fulfilled, he turned to leave.

"Wait a minute, Sasuke."

Obito's voice stopped him. Sasuke turned his head slightly.

Obito asked, "Where are you going next?"

According to the agreement between Obito and Sasuke, Sasuke would capture the Eight-Tails for him. Once the task was completed, Sasuke would be free to leave the Akatsuki and no longer be bound by its rules.

Sasuke glanced at the forest ahead, speaking without looking back, "First, I want to heal my injuries. Once I'm healed, I'm going to Konoha."

After speaking, Sasuke began to walk off with Jugo.

Obito's mind wandered for a moment. He remembered asking Sasuke about his plans after learning the truth about Itachi.

Obito had asked Sasuke, "After knowing the truth about Itachi, will you still inherit his will and protect Konoha?"

Sasuke's answer had been blunt: "I don't approve of Itachi's way of life, where he sacrificed everything to protect the village. I would rather have never known the truth than to live in a world where I lose everything to protect Konoha. The peace gained by sacrificing Itachi isn't the peace I want. I want revenge on those who tormented my brother and forced him into that situation!"

Obito had pressed him, "Aren't you going to destroy more than just the Konoha elites?"

Sasuke's response had been cold, "I want to destroy Konoha itself. I want to destroy the people who tortured my brother. I want to bring down the village that destroyed my family. The ones who caused my father and brother to clash, the ones who made the Uchiha clan fall—those people are my targets. Don't think they can escape."

Obito had thought back to those words often, and as he watched Sasuke walking away, he couldn't help but feel the weight of Sasuke's hatred.

Sasuke had lost everything—his brother, his clan—and now all he had left was revenge.

Obito sighed. He could understand Sasuke's pain, having carried his own burdens of loss and revenge.

Thinking about Sasuke's path, Obito shouted, "Sasuke!"

Sasuke stopped but didn't turn around. His expression was indifferent.

Obito continued, "Danzo's right eye was taken by Naruto, and his right arm was also severed by him. His strength has been greatly reduced. If you go to Konoha after recovering, you could deal with him."

Sasuke was momentarily stunned. Naruto?

He remembered their last fight. When Naruto had left, he had said something about helping him deal with Danzo and giving him the freedom to exact his revenge.

At the time, Sasuke hadn't understood what it meant, but now, thinking back, it all made sense.

Did Naruto betray Konoha to help him?

Sasuke's thoughts became clouded with confusion.

This guy!

Sasuke scoffed, shaking his head, and turned away with Jugo.

He didn't speak another word as he disappeared into the forest.
