Naruto: Reborn in His Younger Self

Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Rainy Night

At night, there were stars.

To celebrate Shisui's return, Naruto, Shisui, Itachi, Kisame, and Killer Bee went out for another feast.

On top of the high tower, Nagato stood silently, gazing down at Amegakure under the night sky. A gentle breeze brushed against his brow, stirring his long red hair, but it couldn't shake the distant look in his eyes.

"What are you thinking about?"

A soft voice broke the silence as Konan walked to his side.

Nagato already sensed her presence, but his gaze remained fixed on the moonlit village. He sighed and murmured, "Such a peaceful village… it's truly beautiful."

Konan nodded thoughtfully, her eyes following his gaze.

After a brief silence, Nagato turned his head and asked, "They all went to eat. Why didn't you go?"

Konan brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled gently. "They're all men. I wouldn't know what to say if I went along. Besides, you didn't go either."

Nagato chuckled softly. "You know me. I've been introverted since I was a child… I've never liked lively scenes."

Konan thought back to the past. It was true—Nagato had always been quiet and reserved. She smiled, recalling a memory. "You know you're dull, yet you still don't try to socialize a little. No wonder Yahiko used to always…"

She stopped herself mid-sentence, her smile fading.

Nagato looked at her, just about to speak when Konan lowered her gaze and whispered, "Nagato… do you really believe Yahiko will come back to us?"

Nagato smiled and nodded. "Of course. Naruto and I have successfully completed the technique twice. Itachi and Shisui now stand with us again. Once I've recovered enough chakra, I'll bring Yahiko back to you."

Konan stepped closer and embraced him tightly, tears slipping down her cheeks.

"Thank you, Nagato. You and Yahiko… you're the most important people in my life. Yahiko's already gone… I don't want anything to happen to you too. Do you understand?"

Nagato was momentarily stunned. Slowly, he raised his arms and returned her embrace, gently comforting her.

"What's wrong? I've already successfully revived two people. Look at me—still alive and kicking. It's not like before. Everything's fine now."

He paused and added, "With the Rinne Rebirth technique, I would've died before. But now that Naruto's here, what are you so afraid of?"

Konan sobbed quietly. Nagato gently pulled her back and wiped her tears.

"It's alright. Don't worry."

Konan looked up at him and said softly, "You might not realize it, but you've become thinner… more haggard. You're not as energetic as you used to be. After all, this is a forbidden technique that defies the natural order. Overusing it must be causing subtle damage elsewhere in your body…"

"You're overthinking it," Nagato interrupted firmly, shaking his head.

He stared at her with deep conviction and said, "Yahiko wasn't just the man you loved. He was also the person I loved most. His death left a wound in me that never healed."

"Yes, Rinne Rebirth is a jutsu that defies life and death. But for me, I'm grateful to Naruto. He gave me a chance to atone… a second chance to protect what I once failed to save."

He smiled faintly and held Konan's face gently in his hands.

"Back then, I thought the world was hopeless. Even if I could've sacrificed my life to bring Yahiko back, I didn't do it. Because I didn't believe the world was worth living in.

But now… everything's changed. Naruto has given me hope again. I feel like I'm seeing a new future unfold with my own eyes."

"I believe in Naruto's vision and his methods."

He looked at her sincerely.

"Haven't you always believed in Naruto too?"

Konan remained silent for a moment. Then she nodded. He was right. She had always seen Naruto as someone worth trusting. But when it came to Nagato, she couldn't help but feel fear—fear of losing someone again. Her heart wavered with uncertainty, especially with the possibility that Yahiko might soon return.

If Yahiko truly came back… what would she choose?

Nagato turned his gaze back to Amegakure and murmured, "Naruto really is an incredible person. It's because of him that this village has found new life."

Konan looked at Nagato with soft eyes and thought: You're incredible too. You've sacrificed so much for what you believe in. For the ones you love.

—---

In the early morning, as the night faded, Naruto and his companions exited the hotel. The owner personally saw them off. After all, these weren't just any guests—they were some of the most powerful shinobi in the Rain.

Naruto was in high spirits. For the first time since returning, he allowed himself to relax.

Everything was going according to plan. The Five Great Nations were about to form the Allied Shinobi Forces. Shisui, Itachi, and Kisame had officially joined him. These three alone were equivalent to adding three more Kage-level powers to his side.

There was only one flaw in this otherwise perfect scenario—Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan had been transplanted. His original eyes now belonged to Sasuke.

Still, Itachi's strength spoke for itself. With time, he would awaken his eyes again.

Next, Naruto needed to contact Sasuke.

He was ambitious—because he knew it was time. The Fourth Great Ninja War was about to begin. And once it started, everything would accelerate.

Looking at the group around him, Naruto laughed loudly and asked, "So? Did everyone enjoy the drinks tonight?"

Killer Bee, fully drunk and buzzing with excitement, burst into song:

"Yo! Yo! The Akatsuki's turned divine!

We got Eight-Tails Bee and Nine-Tails shine!"

Shisui, equally affected by the alcohol, slung an arm around Itachi and pointed at Bee, laughing heartily. "Hahaha! What even is that song?"

Kisame shook his head with a grin. "The octopus has the worst singing I've ever heard."

Naruto, however, praised Bee's performance with a grin.

The group returned to the tower, boisterous and noisy. Konan stepped outside, wrinkling her nose and waving her hand in front of her face.

"How much did you guys drink? You all reek of alcohol!"

Naruto burped and waved lazily. "Not that much… maybe a dozen crates?"

Killer Bee raised a hand proudly. "I crushed three crates by myself!"

Shisui and Itachi laughed again.

Kisame shook his head. As someone skilled in Water Style, his body could literally excrete alcohol through his skin. He couldn't get drunk even if he tried.

Konan sighed. "Go get some rest. All of you are drunk. What will you do if there's an intruder?"

Naruto waved it off. "It's fine! Big bro is here!"

After settling everyone down, Konan let out another sigh and turned to find Nagato still standing outside.

"Go rest, Nagato. I'll keep watch tonight."

Nagato shook his head. "It's alright. Let them rest."

Konan nodded, and at that moment, Nagato activated the Rain Tiger at Will Technique—a large-scale sensory jutsu that allowed him to detect every movement in the rain-covered village.

With Naruto and the others intoxicated, a technique like this was essential.

"Go to sleep, Konan. I have the Rinnegan. With the Deva Path's perception, I'll detect any intruders long before they arrive."

Konan suddenly understood. No wonder Naruto, who was usually so cautious, allowed himself to let loose tonight.

Looking up at the softly falling rain, Konan folded her hands into an origami seal and summoned a paper umbrella, opening it above her.

"I'll stay and keep watch with you."
