Chapter 180: Chapter 180: The War Is Coming
Nagato and Konan stood vigil over Amegakure beneath the curtain of night and rain—protecting not only their village but also Naruto... and the fragile thread of the future.
Outside, the rain tapped steadily against the rooftops. Inside a modest dormitory, Naruto lay asleep, his breath calm and even, untroubled by the storm or the gathering dread of war.
Some slept peacefully.
Others fought restlessly.
Inside the White Zetsu base.
Deidara had long lost count of how many times Sasuke had destroyed him during their repeated skirmishes. The power of the Rinnegan—the Eye of Samsara—was far more terrifying than he had imagined.
Sasori lay collapsed on the ground, still recovering from the last round. As for Kakuzu, even activating his Earth Grudge Fear technique proved useless—he had been beaten into the ground.
Sasuke stood amidst the wreckage, shoulders heaving, sweat trickling down his face. His blood surged with the thrill of battle, eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
"Hahaha… what a bunch of trash!"
After days of combat training with Deidara, Sasori, and Kakuzu, Sasuke had fully grasped the intricacies of the Rinnegan and could now wield it with devastating precision. At first, the techniques drained him, made him bleed. But the more he fought, the more refined and deadly his movements became.
Now, it wasn't enough.
He craved a stronger opponent. A more glorious challenge.
Naruto.
"Hmph, Naruto… get ready to tremble before me!"
That thought fueled Sasuke's burning arrogance. He wanted to fly to Naruto now—confront him, crush him, laugh at him.
As time-space ripples twisted in the air, Uchiha Obito emerged silently from a swirling vortex. His single Sharingan eye scanned the battlefield—trees flattened for dozens of kilometers, terrain warped and cratered. Deidara's C4 and detonating clay had clearly left their mark.
Obito approached, nodding slightly as he observed Sasuke.
"Congratulations, Sasuke. Your strength has evolved beyond recognition."
Sasuke scoffed, his lips curling into a cold smirk. Then, with a snap of his wrist, he stretched out his hand.
"Banshō Ten'in!" (Universal Pull)
A thunderous suction ripped through the air. Obito's body jerked forward against his will, drawn toward Sasuke. But just before they made contact, Obito's body shimmered and phased through reality—Kamui in effect.
Sasuke anticipated it.
He spun and slashed at Obito's back.
But once again—blurred, intangible.
Obito growled. "Sasuke, you're pushing it."
Sasuke chuckled, completely unfazed. "In this state, physical attacks can't touch you. But what about this—"
"Amaterasu."
Jet-black flames burst forth from Sasuke's eye, roaring across the battlefield toward Obito.
Obito frowned and quickly formed hand seals.
"Mokuton: Jukai Kōtan!" (Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence)
Massive wooden stakes erupted from the ground, intercepting the black fire. The wood hissed as Amaterasu's flame devoured it.
Sasuke paused, amused. "So, Kamui isn't omnipotent after all."
With the Rinnegan and the power of the Six Paths, Sasuke could now pose a real threat—even to Obito.
Obito straightened. Behind his mask, the Mangekyō Sharingan in his right eye gleamed with intensity. This boy... his strength was becoming troublesome.
His physique was monstrous, and his talent even more so.
Obito clenched his fists. For a moment, he seriously considered activating the fail-safe seal he had secretly implanted in Sasuke.
In the past few days, while Naruto trained relentlessly under the torrential skies, Obito had obsessed over a critical question: What if I took Sasuke's Rinnegan for myself? Could I then defeat Naruto?
Obito wasn't a reincarnate of Indra or Ashura. He feared there might be powers exclusive to their lineage—powers beyond his reach.
In the end, Obito chose to raise Sasuke as his sword.
Just like history demanded.
Uchiha Madara vs. Senju Hashirama.
Uchiha Sasuke vs. Uzumaki Naruto.
But here was the problem—this "sword" had a mind of its own. And a sharp edge that turned back on its master.
Obito exhaled deeply and forced his arms to his sides. For the sake of the plan, he would endure it—for now.
Sasuke noticed and sneered. "What's the matter? Are you scared to fight me again?"
Deidara's half-reformed body hissed angrily, "Tobi! Don't back down! Once we're fully regenerated, we'll kill this punk together!"
Sasuke's eyes narrowed. He raised his hand again.
"Amaterasu."
Black flames surged.
Obito blinked forward in time, yanking Deidara away from the strike. The fire narrowly missed.
"Sasuke!" Obito barked. "Deidara is one of our most vital long-range specialists. If you incinerate him with Amaterasu, he'll be unrevivable!"
Sasuke waved him off. "I don't care. I hate him. If you need large-scale destruction, I'll handle it myself."
Deidara clenched his teeth, but Obito raised a hand to silence him.
Sasuke turned to Obito again.
"I'm going to find Naruto. What's your plan?"
Obito narrowed his eyes. "You can't act until we've secured the seven tailed beasts."
Sasuke's grin returned. "With my power now, I don't need them. I've already come into contact with the power of the Sage of Six Paths."
Obito's expression darkened.
"Don't forget," he said coldly, "Naruto also has the Rinnegan… and the Nine-Tails."
That struck home. Sasuke's smug confidence faltered.
"And Naruto's tailed beast transformations," Obito added, "are flawless. You've seen it yourself."
Sasuke fell silent, clenching his fists. His ego, moments ago inflated, deflated with a hiss of reality.
"...Fine. Take me to control the tailed beasts."
He turned and walked into the heart of the White Zetsu base.
Obito smirked behind his mask. Still just a child… easy to manipulate with a few choice words.
Once Sasuke disappeared inside, Deidara, Sasori, and Kakuzu reformed fully with Impure World Reincarnation.
"You three—stay alert. Report any intrusions immediately."
Sasori and Kakuzu nodded. Deidara muttered under his breath, shooting a glare toward Sasuke's retreating figure. Then he stomped off to gather more detonating clay.
A moment later, Yakushi Kabuto emerged from the shadows, his hood damp with rain, eyes glowing with reptilian cunning.
"The Allied Shinobi Forces," he said softly, "are gathering as we speak."
Obito nodded slowly. "Then it's time. Release your Edo Tensei army."
Kabuto grinned, pale lips curling. "And what of your White Zetsu forces?"
Obito glanced at the entrance where Sasuke had vanished.
"As soon as Sasuke masters the tailed beasts, we march."
With that, Obito descended into the depths of the base.
Kabuto chuckled darkly and turned to make his own preparations.
The war... was coming.
