His mind began to consider different possibilities.

Sakumo hoped Kakashi could find some companionship under the guidance of a jonin instructor alongside two teammates.

But Kakashi didn't care much about that—his only interest lay in completing missions.

However, becoming Chinya's disciple was a totally different matter.

In the Shinobi World, the bond between master and apprentice was sacred and vital.

That's why Kakashi couldn't just jump on board—he didn't know anything about Chinya.

Still, Kakashi was indeed quite intrigued by Chinya.

After all, Chinya had noticed him immediately. Kakashi was certain he had never met Chinya before.

So Kakashi narrowed his eyes. "How do you plan to make me stronger? Isn't this our first time meeting?"

My Thunder Breathing surpasses anyone else's. Plus, my master is Orochimaru, one of the Sannin. Becoming my apprentice wouldn't be beneath you, would it?"

But Kakashi still hesitated.

It was just too sudden.

Chinya looked at Kakashi, who was clearly caught in conflict. "You don't have to decide right away. See my abilities first. You can find me in the woods east of Konoha. I'll give you two hours. If you come, I'll be waiting."

After speaking, Chinya glanced at Obito Uchiha, who was visibly excited about being assigned under Minato Namikaze along with Rin Nohara, then turned and left the Ninja Academy without another word.

Once Chinya had gone, the vice principal asked, "Kakashi, do you wish to become Chinya's disciple or Minato's subordinate? You can go find Chinya now. If you choose not to, return to the Ninja Academy—you'll be reassigned to Minato's team."

Kakashi replied immediately, "I'll go see him now."

It wasn't long before Chinya left that Kakashi caught up with him.

Chinya didn't worry at all whether Kakashi would seek him out.

As long as Kakashi desired strength, he would definitely come. After all, Kakashi had nothing to lose either.

Eagerly, Kakashi asked, "I want to ask about Thunder Breathing—is it incomplete?"

Quick-minded Kakashi understood immediately. "So you're saying only by becoming your disciple can I learn that knowledge?"

Chinya gave a slight nod. "Yes. Because it's considered my Secret Technique."

Kakashi fell silent, no longer pressing further. He decided to follow Chinya and observe his strength before making a decision.

Kakashi followed Chinya into the forest east of Konoha.

This was the same forest where, years ago, the System had first guided Chinya in simulating Thunder Breathing.

Though many years had passed and vegetation had regrown, the scars of battle from Chinya's first practice remained.

"Why don't you demonstrate Lightning Flash first?"

Kakashi crouched slightly, assuming the starting stance of Lightning Flash.

He infused his right foot with lightning nature chakra and burst forward at high speed. A thunderclap originated from the lightning-infused chakra itself, and he slashed at a nearby tree with a sword technique, leaving a deep cut on its trunk.

Back in the Land of Hot Water, Chinya had seen several Konoha ninja use Thunder Breathing—it was honestly hard to compliment.

Among them, Kakashi's version was the most passable, though still barely acceptable.

He was simply channeling lightning chakra into his body to boost his speed. The thunderclap came from the chakra itself—not from a burst powerful enough to split the air like real thunder.

Kakashi looked at Chinya with an expectant gaze and asked, "How was it?"

Chinya replied, "Not bad."

Even though Kakashi wore a mask, the disappointment radiating from him was unmistakable.

"Then… can I see your Thunder Flash?"

Chinya gave a slight nod. After all, he had come specifically to show Kakashi his strength, so naturally he would demonstrate it.

Chinya shifted into a slight crouch.

Blinding lightning burst from his entire body, and the ground beneath his feet sank inward.

With an explosive burst of speed, Chinya shot forward so fast he vanished from sight — then unleashed a lightning-fast [Sword Slash].

In the blink of an eye, Chinya stood dozens of meters away. He slashed downward, cleaving clean through a tree wide enough to require three men to wrap their arms around.

Kakashi gaped at Chinya, completely stunned.
