Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Kakashi
Kushina Uzumaki firmly told Chinya that she was determined to become the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
Chinya's voice grew heavy. "Kushina, absolutely not. If you want to repay Mito Uzumaki, there are other ways—but not this one, not this self-destructive method. I will never—*ever*—agree to let you become a Jinchuriki!"
Kushina gently hugged Chinya and whispered softly, "I'm not doing this for Grandma Mito, nor for Konoha. It's for you. You've already done so much for me. I don't want to be a burden to you anymore."
Chinya's gaze softened, but his face remained stern.
In an unyielding tone, he said to Kushina, "I will absolutely never agree to this. Kushina, I've already told you—you were never a burden in the past, you're not one now, and you never will be in the future.
Besides, I don't feel tired at all. Striving for you gives me energy and motivation.
On the contrary, if *you* became the Jinchuriki, it would completely negate my feelings for you—it would invalidate every effort I've made up until now!
Kushina, just believe in me. Leave everything else to me. I believe I can do it, so I hope you'll always keep believing in me too."
Kushina nuzzled her head into Chinya's chest. "I believe in you, Chinya. I won't bring this up again. I'm sorry."
Chinya sighed in relief and tenderly patted Kushina's head, murmuring, "Kushina, I'll eventually leave Konoha someday. That place holds no happy memories for me. The only beautiful one… is meeting you. So of course I'll take you with me when I go.
Konoha isn't truly our home—it's merely temporary refuge for us. Wait a little longer. When the dust finally settles, we'll leave this place together and find somewhere that's truly ours."
Kushina looked up at Chinya and declared firmly, "I'll follow you forever. I won't ever leave your side!"
A soft smile curled at the corner of Chinya's lips. His heart felt very peaceful.
...
Chinya spent two days with Kushina Uzumaki.
During those two days, Kushina prepared every meal for Chinya.
Needless to say, Kushina's cooking was amazing—Chinya always ate his fill every time.
After having lunch at home, Kushina had to go on a mission with her squad, while Chinya also needed to head toward the Ninja Academy.
After saying goodbye to Kushina, Chinya made his way to the Ninja Academy.
Today was graduation day for the students at the ninja school.
Chinya needed to go there and personally select someone to become his disciple.
He also clearly understood that Orochimaru's suggestion about taking a disciple was meant to mold that person into someone loyal to himself—just like how Chinya himself was currently Orochimaru's loyal subordinate.
So the disciple he chose shouldn't come from any existing ninja clan.
But without selecting from a clan, Chinya wasn't sure who among the promising commoner ninjas might rise in the future.
Guy Might was one possibility, but he was too unbalanced in skills—he wouldn't be a suitable disciple.
Chinya tried to think of a proper candidate for a while but came up empty, so he just decided to show up and see what happened. If there really wasn't anyone suitable, he'd just pick a random student and make do.
Arriving at the entrance of the Ninja Academy.
Chinya ran into the troublesome Minato Namikaze again. But actually, Chinya was expecting to run into Minato today. After all, Minato had mentioned before that he would be leading a three-man squad. So naturally, he'd be showing up for today's graduation exam.
Chinya was allowed to personally pick his disciple, but Minato couldn't just choose who he wanted for his three-man squad. Because Jonin weren't allowed to freely handpick their preferred Genin—they were assigned randomly.
When Minato saw Chinya, he immediately walked over and greeted him familiarly, "Chinya, why are you here? Have you changed your mind about leading a squad?"
Chinya twitched his lips slightly, "I'm definitely not leading any squad. I'm here today only to choose a disciple. So go do your own thing and don't bother me."
Chinya leaped past Minato and directly entered the Ninja Academy.
Minato was long accustomed to Chinya's attitude. After smiling, he also stepped inside.
The graduation exams at the Ninja Academy had already ended.
Freshly graduated Genin who had passed the exam stood in neat lines across the training ground, forehead protectors already secured.
The Jonin who were there to pick up their teams stood among the academy instructors, waiting for the names to be called.
Chinya estimated there were about a dozen Jonin present.
But since they were in the early stages of war, the exam difficulty had been relaxed, so this year's batch of graduates was unusually large.
A dozen Jonin could barely cover even a small portion of these new Genin. Only the best would be assigned to the Jonin squads—the rest would be handled by Chunin.
Then Chinya spotted a familiar face—his former teacher, Hayato Masuda.
When Hayato saw Chinya, his expression stiffened.
He'd once been a student Hayato despised and never thought much of—now unexpectedly chosen by Orochimaru himself, one of the Sannin, and promoted to Jonin, outranking Hayato too.
Most instructors at the Ninja Academy were Chunin.
Chinya merely cast a glance toward Hayato Masuda, giving him the same cold look one would give a stranger before quickly shifting his gaze elsewhere.
Hayato felt an overwhelming sense of frustration inside.
What an ungrateful brat.
Didn't he teach him for several years after all?
Was it really necessary to act like that?
"Teacher Masuda!"
Minato approached Hayato Masuda with concern, saying, "Teacher Masuda, it's been such a long time. Are you doing alright?"
Seeing Minato, Hayato Masuda broke into a wide grin, beaming from ear to ear.
"I'm fine, I'm fine! Everything is great. Minato, you've always been my most outstanding student. It truly fills me with pride watching you rise so quickly to become a Jonin. I feel deeply fulfilled."
Minato scratched his head awkwardly, "That's all thanks to Teacher Masuda's guidance back then."
"You're as humble as ever, not like some people who don't even remember how to say thanks."
Hayato Masuda shot a sidelong look at Chinya, his tone clearly dissatisfied.
As Minato Namikaze and Hayato Masuda caught up with each other, Chinya was lost in thought, staring at a silver-haired brat among the Genin.
This silver-haired brat was none other than Kakashi Hatake.
Chinya was scratching his head—wasn't Kakashi already a Chunin? What was he doing hanging around with a bunch of Genin waiting for a Jonin squad assignment?
After thinking it over, it made sense. Kakashi, Obito Uchiha, and Rin Nohara were supposed to become subordinates under Minato Namikaze.
Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara had just graduated from the Ninja Academy. If Kakashi didn't show up here, how else would he end up under Minato as his Jonin squad leader?
